I have this row of a few songs I listen to, when I'm feeling down or really good or just when I need to hear some real good songs and strong perfomances this is the strongest performance and song of all.

I discovered this artist when watching the movie Joe with Nicholas Cage. This guy has a real talent. Love the vibe of the song, the lyrics and the voice.
Well, if it's an affectation, it's one that he consistently keeps at live concerts and on his studio recordings as well. His singing voice did sound different when he was younger, but it still had some of that raspy edge to it. Some people sound very different when they sing, in comparison to their speaking voice.

That craggy voice is such an affectation. His speaking voice is crystal clear. Come one Ryan, you need to chainsmoke for 40 years to earn that sound.
