Hey Malo…Random tip you may find useful wen working on the grid edit page or anyone reading this. Connect your MPC to a Bluetooth QWERTY keyboard (If you have one) Once connected when you are on the grid edit page you can hold Shift on the keyboard and then highlight any individual note on the page and editing accordingly….unlike having to highlight a group of notes I find this very useful when programming drums as i nudge notes alot. I believe its an error from Akai because i don’t understand why we have to use the shift on the keyboard and not the shift on the mpc…Baffling.
@@daniel_dumile hold down shift on the QWERTY keyboard and select ur notes with the touch screen on the MPC as you normally would (while pressing down shift on your keyboard) Thats the best way i can explain it.Hope that helps
Got a MPC One Retro edition last month and definitely getting a sp404 this month - too awesome of a combo - really liking the look of the "live performance" style of beatmaking - looks ton of fun
For me, this is an imperative combination. Been working with MPC+SP’s since I got my first MPC Live! The main thing I want to say is, I rarely make beats in Ableton. Not working with a computer is the best part.
@@malobeats love the channel bro !! But how do you record all your audio ? Cause it’s all clean, it doesn’t sound like you’re in a room with echo and all that
bro youre energy is next level good vibes. i connect so much w this. your videos inspire me and teach me so much. thank you for putting this on the internet. Keep It Up Bro!
Great episode. Recently my akai studio 2 was robbed from me....I wanna go dawless with my next set up....great ...thanks for the info and insight and inspiration.
My friend just let me borrow his MPC One so I can decide if I want the Key 37. I have the MK2 already so I'm gonna try this out. I'm using the MPC for the synth plugins and then creating sequences, so I'm really curious how I can integrate the SP in this process. I love using Ableton but it's been fun trying the MPC out again. Thanks for all the pointers, man.
hey, thanks for the inspiration, the idea of pairing up an MPC (or DAW ?) with the 404 to use the latter for live performance and creativity sounds brilliant, but I was wondering: wouldn't it be better to use an SX, rather than a MK2 in terms of bitcrushing and overall sound, even though the MK2 has more effects to mess around with?
One of the hardest decisions for me is whether to mix on the Mpc or stem out the tracks into my daw. I’ve done long stretches with both. I own the sp404 and have used it from daw into the Sp, but never Mpc into sp. will give it a go. I feel like ppl in videos rarely use the x/y effects on the Mpc . Imo they are pretty good depending on what you are doing…
Thank you for your input, I know exactly what you mean, and I have my fair share with this decision myself. I do a little bit of both when it comes out to mixing but tend to mix directly on the MPC most of the time. They both have their advantages.
I understand that sampling, chopping and playing around samples on the mpc is a lot more fun, than in a DAW. Lets me focus on whats important as well. But why should i bake effects like vinyl crackle, compression or other things into my signal before resampling inside the DAW? I like keeping my source clean and put everything together in the daw, especially since effects is something i do pretty late in the process. I'm asking because i'm kind of interested in the SP404 since it came out, but i didn't really find a reason to buy one. Most use case i see people using it - to look busy while playing a beat set by screwing around with filters and stutter effect (and it's kind of legit) :D
Hey Malo, love all your work... Im having a hard time deciding wether i should get the Mpc + Sp 404 combo (either the Live 2 or the One), or the Mpc + Tascam Model 12 combo. (i dont have anymore sound processing hardware on my studio yet other than a small interface) Your advice would be of great help. Keep it up, all love from Colombia. Wish you the best on your holidays.
Do you use certain settings in the mpc mixer when you’re pairing the 404 with the mpc live in standalone? The frequencies from the 404 would go to certain places that would damage the speakers
This is cool. but if i wanted all these effects to be applied to a individual tracks to use in a standard daw like pro tools for mixing then how could you do this?
@@malobeats thanks Malo. I spin vinyl only 70s afro, latin, psych stuff. Really want to get in the beat making / sample game and maybe add some cool effects to my sets. Sounds like I'll get the SP - seem like it can do it all.
I just picked up a SP404M2 to use with my MPC X... to be honest I don't get it....The X does all these effects and more... with Air Flavor Pro and XYFX. The 404 was less than $300 so I will give it a few months before I sell...but it seems redundant and or underpowered if you have a Current MPC.
Malo or the comments can someone please explain how to sample vinyl if the sp line out and in being used and connected to the mic 3/4 and the sample port ( middle part where I connect my record player mainly ) would I Connect my record player to 4 and 5 ?
Hey, them emulators on the MPC do sound punchy but it’s pretty set with no flexibility. Why I like the SP 404 so much is because it lets you tweak the setting to your linking
I love sampling from vinyl records because it provides a different texture of sound and the SP 404 effects adds the chef's kiss to the track.
You could have not said it any better. Thank you so much for sharing this with us.
Love this dude. Ear fatigue is so real. Sometimes breaking and letting your ears rest on everyday life sounds instead of the studio is replenishing

One of the illest - sickest - quickest constructions of a beat I've ever seen.
Bought this combo & love it. Dope channel man. 🤜🏾🤛🏾

Midi out to midi in?

How do you track out the final beat?
@@jjbing3 if you want “that sound” you’ll have to mix it and print that stereo mixdown. So i just record it to the sp then export it to sd card.
The beat was fire, simple but fire. Gave like nostalgic outer space vibes…
Yo, thank you so much. I really appreciate you taking the time.

What happened with the octatrack? Is the MPC better? Do you still have the octa? Just curious what your thoughts are

Get it. It’s the best combo.

I have this exact same set up tryna figure out how to best use it

Could you just use go from turntable to SP 404 for samples, beat making, effects etc?

tough video as always, quick question how are you getting clean audio of you playing the beat and messing around w the 404?
Hear that video game sample I will not say lol. Had a good time with that one before.
Who rhymed over that sample was it mobb or Nas?. Maybe both on that record. Scarface right
Thank you for sharing Malo, great work as always. 🫡
When you say “running your signals through the 404”, do you mean just put 404 in the chain with no effects? Would this do anything to the sound?
Oh I see the answer around 8 minutes
Welcome Back.
Where can I get that hat??
Why u not using analog board

I'm a bit confused as to why you would need both mpc one + &, sp404 mk2. Don't they do the same thing? I'm new to this so guess I have a lot to learn.
The sound comes from the MPC, the structure and texture comes from the SP 404 14:25
