    I would love to have my RASA 11 in a place like that! Unfortunately I am not sure how well my mounts would do without messing with them. While I have good luck with my iOptron mounts while I am at my dark sky vacation place and don't need to redo my PA, star alignment, etc. I am there for only a week or a little more. I think I'd need an AP, 10 Micron, or SB mount to be able to do it as a remote setup full time. One of these days though...
    Curiously I couldn't find pricing on the site for hosting a setup.

    Very cool man! Best wishes with your new remote scope! You hit a nerve with me when said that word... TILT! I just got a new RASA 8 and guess what I have! • @GalacticHunter
      @GalacticHunter  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The RASA8 is famous for tilt, since it's so fast. Hopefully the FCCT you bought will take care of it. Refractors do have tilt too because the tilt can originate from anywhere, reducer, camera... I think mine is from the camera itself, and since it's full-frame it's super obvious

  • @nikivan

    Congrats! I hope the tripod install is only temporary, while working out the bugs. The chance of someone bumping into a leg and ruining your polar alignment is quite high.

    I'm kinda curious as to why there are all those concrete pier foundations poured in isolation into the floor, yet no actual piers have been constructed, and none of the telescopes are actually mounted on anything. Sort of defeats the point a little bit? One reason to mount it on the concrete at all is to avoid thermal flexure of the tripod legs heat cycling throughout the day, which will over time ruin your polar alignment. Is this a 'coming later' upgrade?

    • @anata5127
      @anata5127 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      People will bring more serious gears (20”+ scopes) than you saw on this video. Then they will need piers.

    • @ryanfav
      @ryanfav 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Generally its up to the owner of the telescope to supply the pier, involving drilling into the concrete pads some bolts or similar, however for many a tripod is more than enough as a slight error in polar alignment of say 1-3 arcminute (a realistic max deviation for a tripod on a concrete pad) is well within what guiding can correct for, and over a meridian flip the mount will flex more than this amount,

    Salut antoine, juste une question : je vois qu'autour il y a pas mal de sable ou de poussières. En cas de vent comment être certain que rien ne rentrera dans l'abris et sur les télescopes?

    • @GalacticHunter
      @GalacticHunter  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Le batiment est fermé quand il fait trop de vent, et c'est conseillé de protéger le telescope avec un Flip-Flap flat panel (que je dois encore acheter). Mais sinon, le directeur peut enlever la poussiere sur chaque instrument si besoin au fil du temps

    Just curious, I guess. Let's say you're the only one wanting to image that night, do you open the roof remotely? Is there a grounds keeper that can be contacted for troubleshooting?

    • @GalacticHunter
      @GalacticHunter  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The owner opens the roof every night as long as the sky is clear / mostly clear and there is no chance of rain. If there is any chance of surprise rain during the night, the software automatically closes the roof. Yes for troubleshooting, there is someone who lives on-site and can walk to the observatory to help out in case of issues (plugging some cables, restarting the computer, etc)

    Can you talk about tilt a little more or explain what causes this? I am not fully understanding what tilt is or what caused it.

    • @ryanfav
      @ryanfav 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      tilt is when the camera sensor is tilted relative to the focal plane of the telescope, leading to different parts of the image being focused differently, e.g. a corner or half the image being less sharp than the rest,

    In my opinion, it is strategic mistake to put your system for remote astrophotography. It is priced at 800 per month and 25-30K for gears. Add headache for operating it.
    Alternative? Here it is. Get unlimited plan from iTelescope for 1K m, use much better scopes, mounts and camera than yours. Additionally, no headaches and driving back and forth. No spending on expensive gears.
    Bonus, you can continue using ZWO in backyard.
