Thanks for re-upping this fixed version, it's a neat little story

Somewhere in my closet is a well-worn paperback of Asimov's Mysteries that I bought at the Thrifty Drugstore some 55 years ago, which contains this story. (And also the "Singing Bell" story that is alluded to.) Delightful to hear it read aloud--thank you!

The interplay between Inspector Davenport and Dr Urth can be really funny at times.

Hanging on my wall are some of these mags featuring that robot on the cover. I am missing this one!

I am a quite intelligent person, but i freaking do not get the end of this story! Obviously, i’m looking too deeply and missing what’s at stake ”mustache level”. A silly way of putting it, but it’s probably got something to do with the answer!! Very frustrating. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤨🌷🌱

Some of these old stories are written to make me so frustrated with the stupid interplay between the characters. I wanted to smack Dr Urth to get him to hurry up and explain what he knew instead of playing that stupid "I'm going to make you play 20 questions" BS. UGH. I think Asimov was better at writing hard SF and not so good at real conversations between humans.

This story seems to be one of his early efforts. It's quite naïve compared to his later stories.
