Because in the US they use drywall and small bricks. In Ghana, they use cement and concrete and it’s built really to withstand Mother Nature. It takes time. Also u build with your own money. If u have it all ready, it can be done fast. Most people don’t have it all ready so they take a year or 2 to complete and that’s ok.
