  • This zwift cat c race came down to a mad sprint finish! This was such a great race, super fun and super painful come the end.
    The race itself was a FutureWorks event, consiting of 5 laps on the volcano circuit making up 23.3km of total distance with just 122m worth of climbing. So a fairly short event, great to help me train for my sprint duathlon and sprint triathlon coming up.

    Spicy little race there! 👍 . One rule of thumb ive learned IRL and Zwift, always pedal through the crest of the climb. The natural feeling is to relax cuz it’s over, but not in cycling lol 😆.. Good job!

    differences on the line were +0.061s, +0.347s and +0.348s, so 0.001 between you and nr3

    What a finish! Exciting race, very well done 👍 I think you surged just a bit too early, and everyone had a really strong kick at the end. Great video, subbed, can’t wait to see more

    Hi there, great to see this footage. I too are 100kg so have to put in a burst before the hills, other than that the pace was comfortable. Wish my heart rate stayed down that low.

    • @alexreader
      @alexreader  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah thats awesome! Yeah it was fairly comfortable, whats interesting is a checked out the B cat results for this race and they weren't a lot quicker 🙌 aha heart rate did seem low but the legs told a different story

    he Alex, nice video, fully agree with your analysis. Like that it is only a group of the same category, so you know who to chase. Also like that it was five laps, which gives you a chance to determine the critical stages in the lap and prepare for the end. Also liked that the climb is midway, which gives a better chance for the heavier guys to hang on. What I learned with climbs (especially smaller ones) is to get the watts up just before the climb which gives a slightly easier first part of the climb and it is easier to keep the wattage up. Keep it going and enjoy the competitive races win or loose, its all about the fun and effort.

      Thanks Sebastiaan. Definitely it was a really nice event with the laps, course and small group etc. That's something I didn't think about I'm probably on the heavier side as a rider so might he another reason I was getting dropped on the hills. Good idea putting on some power and gaining momentum beforehand 🤙

      @@alexreader as a heavier rider myself (102 KG) I tend to pick rides with not too many climbing meters as it is almost impossible to stick with a 65-75 KG guy in the same category. After 1-2 rounds I figured I needed to put in the effort on the climb half way to not needing to catch up ,like you had to, and could recover in the draft after the climb

    • @alexreader

      @@sebastiaanvankouwen8500 yeah thats interesting, the flatter routes definitely suit the heavier guys. Like you say hard to compete with someone 65kg flying up a hill!

    Category C here & I am far off your current form. You are at minimum borderline Category C into B .. keeping 230w+ is a mega strong effort for Category C rider!

    • @alexreader
      @alexreader  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, thanks Darren!! Yeah I have tried some B rides in the past. I'd probably struggle with cat C even at the moment though since I've been doing a lot of running. But maybe a race Is in order soon 👀

      I'm originally a distance runner who discovered other sports enroute such as cycling & swimming (not a triathlete by any means) .. I'll add you on ZCA & perhaps can get a few sessions together.

      @Darren Vandit awesome, yeah I think your running might be much superior then 🤣 definitely keen for that. Let me know when you're going to be riding 👍

    This race: th-cam.com/video/35VIJB910no/w-d-xo.html Where the finish inside the Volcano had me grab a win (Cat C) by only 0.08s per Zwiftpower.com was the closest finish I have ever had. Yesterday I could not tell by watching the race because we crossed the finish line at the same time (per Zwift @ exact same 0.1s), but I made 3rd to get onto the podium ahead of him apparently, see finish: th-cam.com/video/7ZZMkuihhh8/w-d-xo.html
    These races are so fun and almost always come down to a sprint where it is going to get close. As you know using that boost would have save you in your finish as the others came past with the aero boost. Sometimes you are working so hard that you just are not thinking clearly. Things like using a boost, or seeing a sprinter try to go long off the front just doesn't register in your brain when you are in the red. Keep at it and have some fun!!!

    • @alexreader
      @alexreader  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I will try and check them out 👍 yeah so much fun. I definitely push hard if it's a close finish too. Unfortunately I couldn't access the aero helmet with my turbo set up. Companion app wasn't linking

    • @cyclingboss469
      @cyclingboss469 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@alexreader That sucks. Don't know your setup but I often hit the space bar on my laptop rather than the companion app. That activates the power ups. Sometimes I find it easier.

      @@cyclingboss469 yea sadly I'm nowhere near the laptop, should probably change the set up aha.
