Manchester has lost a lot of Irish owned pubs the last two decades. There was a great one in Levenshulme called the Fiddlers. Lovely couple who ran it and a great place for an afternoon pint of Guinness. No a Middle Eastern restaurant. There was also the Ardri, another great Irish nightclub, long since closed. The 32 Club, long gone. Have to admit, I've walked past Mulligans a few times but have never been in.
Well that's obvious. But ye man loves his black and is enticed by the intricacies and technicalities. I've ran an Irish pub in Birmingham for 14 years and love the content. There must be a fair few landlords or cellar managers out there loving ye mand shpeel like me.
Was in Mulligans at the weekend and it was cracking as always. However, I have to say the best pint of Guinness I had in Manchester was in The Freemount in the Northern Quarter. Unbelievable drop.
Nice pint pouring technique he has there. Reminds me of trying to get a good pour out of those inconsistent mini-kegs you can finally master with a bit of practice.
Back to the stuff! Completely understand the move away from 'Guinness guru' but this is what we want!! More of you pouring and necking creaming f*****g pints please !
Had my first Guinness in the factory in Dublin 2 weeks ago, always wanted to try my first one from the source. Im 37 years old and have become a critic of how its ruined in my locals back in Liverpool. No 45 degree angle on the pour, no dome, like piss water, no creamy head. Almost wish id never had one because im disappointed everywhere i go now 🤣. I work in Manchester tho, so this is on my list now.
That pour replicates the original 2 keg pour with the first keg the cream the second less gas and more liquid to lift the head. Luv the turn you’ve made making the pub the focus then whatever beer is the popular pour there. Great stuff.
Harbour Bar in Portrush does a belter of a pint. Best I’ve had - including Dublin. Keg is just under the bar and they pour so many per hour it’s hardly ever stationary in the pipes!
Sadly never managed to visit Manchester, but my favorite 20 years ago was the Mother Red Cap at the top of London's Holloway Road, round the corner from the Archway station. Also the Drum and Monkey, full of first and second generation Irish. It all felt really authentic - lock-ins and a bloke selling An Phoblacht. I imagine they are probably now 'gastropubs' producing oriental-mediterranean fusion dishes for Italian investment bankers and trustafarians.
I love to see any human this enthusiastic about something. Collect beetles? Cool. Obsess over a standardized approach to pouring a particular stout? Even better. Enjoyed the production a lot, will be following along
Daragh, you should get to the Franciscan Well pub in Cork City to try Shandon Stout… decided to try it on a whim recently, my new favourite stout by far now. It’s like chocolate milk
I used to start my drinking session at mulligans good few years ago, used to love their guinness, not been there for ages now but we r going for a meal out in Manchester for mothers day and watching this made me want to go back there for a pint or 2 of black stuff. Ps; any recommendations for guinness or local stout in Cork coz going there in few weeks time 🍻👍
I think Daragh did a Cork video. Was only there for a couple of days and didn't have any amazing guinness although the one at the bus stop for Blarney Castle was decent. Avoid Le Chateau on the main strip. The Franciscan Well brewery was a nice spot, did pizzas and had a good vibe. Edit; should specify the franciscan well place had a stout on.
Just had a pint of Liffey water in "The Dublin Inn" Rayong Thailand & although the pour was terrible, the pint wasn't half bad. £6.60, which is expensive in Thailand, but a fair price back in London.
Id like you to go visit on a busy saturday Dargah! When its really busy and packed its still a good pint of guinness and one of the best in the UK but its not as good as you say on days like that. Bar staff was pulling them fast and inconstantly and i had 2 and left because it was far from creamy. When youve got a bar full of random drinkers of lager, ciders, bottle drinkers and guinness drinkers it does feel its all rushed and the quality the other week reflected this.
Over £7 a pint for hype. Been to Mulligans twice in the last year, and both times the Guinness has been nothing more than average. Going to sound ridiculous but I’ve had better Guinness in some weatherspoon’s, than mulligans. Either their quality has gone rapidly downhill in the last 12 months, or the online hype has been nothing more than a brown envelope in the back pocket of a few content creators.
Love your content Daragh! I am in Manchester this weekend for Peter Kay, 1st pub I am heading too to try and catch some of the England V Ireland rugby is Mulligans (Ireland will BATTER us!) I am also in Dublin for the Leicester V Leinster rugby in April so will be trying some of your top tips as well! 1st time back in Dublin for nearly 19 years!
I couldn't tell if the young guy was doing it or not but when I worked in a bar in Belfast I was always told that sticking the nozzle of the tap in the pint is a no no
It IS a no no and Daragh Domage knows this but let this boy and his bezzie down at the Devonshire off with it of course. Wouldn't see that in GRAVEDIGGERS.
Over £6 for a pint of Guinness, why would ya...quite happy paying £3.20 for a pint of Cask Oyster Stout in the Isle of Man and knocks spots off Guinness👍🍺
I still laugh thinking back to all your 'fans' telling you how the Guinness content had gone 'stale'. Now you're basically back to GG and they're loving it again. What a bunch of melts.
Looks like an amazing pint. I'm watching this whilst drinking a pint of nitrosurge thats got a pathetic little head, maybe I will try that swivel on the next one. Cheers Darragh .
Great idea Darren going round pubs reviewing Guinness. Should change name on channel to Guinness Guru or something like that.
😂
Daragh
@@djpaulsidprobably autocorrect him
I honestly wish you would stop telling people how good it is Daragh. The price will be up another 15% next week now...thanks for that 😅
What else he supposed to do?
Say its shite!
@@connr9827
It is what it is with Guinness. It’s allways good everywhere
But its not that good lol
£7.50 a pint in there it better be good
Outstanding Daragh , doing what you do best 🇮🇪🇮🇪

Went there on Saturday. Was a cracking pint. Also went to Mulligans on Poolbeg St in Dublin at Xmas. That was another belter.
Would love you to get really granular one day, showing the gas mix, barrels and how they are stored, the glass cleaning, all of it. Great vid pal!
F that he's the guru not a scientist pal

I live somewhere that the Guinness is terrrrrible. Would be good to share the info in the hope of improvement for all!
@@nickrhysjones where do you live mate, the pub I run has Guinness officials visit every quarter for a quality inspection 👍
Los Angeles …. Literally the worst Guinness
Glad to see you back at what you do best :)
another great video daragh! much love from vancouver

Exceptional guinness in mulligans. Great to see you back in there daragh. Slainte
Great vid Daragh - will have to pop over there for a sesh.

That costumer saying "your the one with a million followers on TH-cam" now that's funny 🤣👍🤣🤣
My office is around the corner, never had a bad pint in there and I’m in all the time. Well done to the team.

Station in didsbury does a great one

Love this pub, please have a word about the price Daragh😉
As I stated fella good to know your back to normal and back in the pubs. It’s great to see 😊.. mullaigh.
The price cannot be justified,no matter how good it is
Harbour Bar in Portrush does a belter of a pint. Best I’ve had - including Dublin. Keg is just under the bar and they pour so many per hour it’s hardly ever stationary in the pipes!
went there before City v Arsenal last season and thought it was expensive for the city but stayed for 5 pints because it was good

Had a shocking pint in Mulligans in summer. Not been back since, shame as it is a great pub although pricey.
Wish this was my local ffs, I have to trek down to the Devonshire.
I love to see any human this enthusiastic about something. Collect beetles? Cool. Obsess over a standardized approach to pouring a particular stout? Even better. Enjoyed the production a lot, will be following along
This is peak Pub Guru right here. Cheers buddy 🍻
Two more months then I'm in Ireland for my first ever Irish Guinness can't bloomin wait!!
Now that’s the proper way to pull a pint of Guinness 😍🍺 , Caroline Ireland 🇮🇪
Cracking video. Back on form, you can tell you are enjoying it again.
I'd recommend Fiddler's Elbow in Brighton if you're anywhere near there on your UK travels. BEST price and great pint.
No mention of the price I notice........

Did you try any of the forged? Interested to know your thoughts of what its like outside of ireland much like guinness
I had a forged in Mulligans and it was brilliant

I've just been there for a couple of pints for the first time. Love the George Best shirt on the wall. And the zHuinesd ans atmosphere wad great 🙂👍
£7.50 a pint in there now! (December 2024). It’s a good pint, very good.
Went a couple of weeks ago. £7 a pint and very average Guinness.
Ah god bless ya for filling us in on the best pint in the ol' rainy city , go raibh maith agaibh , a chairde .
Ffs I’d a few pints yesterday. Trying to stay out of the pub til Friday. This isn’t helping 😂😂
This man has ya murdering a pint on a poxy Tuesday 😂
I heard he's putting the price up from £6.90 to £7.50 now absolutely ridiculous hope he payed you well.
It's £7.00 as of St Patrick's, dread to think when the next increase will be.
Do they sell Beamish in there?
can anyone tell me the name of the tune being played around 1 minute in?
What's the name of the tune they were playing at the beginning, anyone?
Been to Mulligans twice, best pint I've had outside of Ireland.
Last week I ordered a Guinness and the guy gizzed in it. It tasted exactly the same as it always does.
Devonshire Arms in Soho is 🔥
great pub it's just busy as fuck hahaha. Work round there on the weekends and it's rammo to drive through. Always a great atmosphere though

I’ve been there on nights like you described and every pint I had was a cracker.
This place is an absolute operation! Padraig is a master! I need a Pint here!
Love from Sydney!
Cracker video mate!
2 pubs in and 2 failures 😢...onto the next searching for the black velvet...
Back to your best, love it.
Next time in Manchester, I am heading straight for Mulligans.
Born in Llanfairfechan 🏴and we still love it ❤
Only came across this channel recently, loving the videos.
Interesting that they also have Forged on tap :)
Is it about consistency?
Return of the (Guinness) King
Temple Bar prices, exchange rate factored in.
Gotta go here now!!
Tried it yesterday .. £7.70 a pint!!! You're having a laugh mate
Has it already gone up to £7.20? It went up to £7.00 For St Patrick's Day - I didn't think they would increase it that quickly again 🤬
@@niallwood It's £7 at the moment

Take a sip every time you hear the word consistent, you’d be drunk as a lord after a few minutes
Some gaff isn't it. I also rate O'Sheas Guinness as up there but Mulligans is a league in on its own.
They consistently pull a great pint of Guinness, you consistently drink it , nice one Darragh
No pint of Guinness is worth £7.20😂
My favourite pint in my home city
Was there on Sunday. Absolutely outstanding gear. Happy to pay the extra quids when the Guinness is that good!
What a shhhpot, can't wait to head back
Over rated pub and £7 a pint, too cold and watery, i will going back to O'sheas for my Guinness
Man I can never get my glass to look like that.
Out of curiosity, how much is a pint of Guinness in there?
7quid m8
Last one I had there was like sewage
100% the best pint I have had in Britain! 👌👌👌

6.90 I think...
You can hear the difference in real Guinness v fake British Guinness! It sounds different coming out the pump!
Can finally see where all that Guinness is going lol

Great pint of #marketing 😉
Even though it comes out the same kegs as everyone other one 😂 Guinness drinkers are cult bait.
£7.50 a pint is disgusting
BTW the 'shimmying' is a load of bollocks. Never seen that in my life.
Went gravediggers today it's the standard 11/10
Another 50p going on a pint now... already nearly 7 quid a pint.
Welcome to Manchester!
