Hi Becky! Thank you for all your great videos! I have an idea for your books. Read them to us and make them audio books! I love hearing your voice and would listen to them on long trips . 🐓🐔🦃🐣🐤🐥💛💚
Becky don’t forget to mention that if you don’t gather your eggs periodically, the snakes might get in and eat the eggs. I just watched homestead channel where a snake got in and had about 3 or 4 eggs in its stomach and they didn’t kill it, they removed it and let it go. Yes you’re right, they just want to eat. But they might just want to eat your uncollected eggs. Jean from Arizona 🌵🌴🦎🐍🌞🦂🌻
Hi Beecky, You are so interesting. I have been giving my chickens fermented whole corn, oats, & sunflower seeds the latter of which is a pain in the neck to soak but I do it b//c they prefer the soaked ones over the dry. I also keep a pedaled feeder w/ dry scratch & whole corn the latter which they prefer. Yes I dewormthem w/ calcium Bentonite ckay & also grit & oyster shells.
Do I need to soak and ferment my chickens food? I know that you need to for human consumption ( nuts beans seeds anything that sprouts) but I thought chickens can break down the phytic acids?
I’ve had chickens for years but recently since working from home I’ve been able to spend more time with them. I’m trying to organize my yard a little better 1 acre including home and 2 horses with stalls. My coop is 10 by 20 with 8 hens 1 rooster. I’d like to get 6 more hens. They are also allowed to free range and get their dirt baths during the day. Do you think that is enough room? I have more room but don’t want to have more mess.
I’m new to chickens tooo always wanted them- was gifted them finally; they don’t lay eggs yet so they’re like a couple of overgrown pigeons right now; cost a lot more than I thought to build the fencing; and the overhead netting ( they do fly and cats try to get in). The netting can be obtained from your local park where the evil bureaucrats wrap the playground to keep kids off due to the fakedemic: it’ll be thrown in a landfill in any case so use it.
I bought 4 sex links, they had an "aunty" Ben ( grandma hen) to show them what to do. These four are so bra, they are almost bullies! So big, healthy (thanks to you - I've been following your channel the whole time and their coop is not too little, and it's the Four Seasons of coops!) And robust. They are running free on two protected acres, I let them out late morning and they cruise in and out eating drinking all day (raiding the garden a bit - grrr - fixing that, lol), then they march back in and fly up to the highest bar each evening. Becky, I thank you! I'm hoping for eggs this late fall or winter - in Hawaii, so no harsh weather! They have a cushier life than me - thanks to YOU!
Well I decided to have chickens, bought them AND THEN built the coop. And not only did I design and build it but as I was constructing it I decided I needed to stabilize it more so kept modifying the design. It IS strong, stable and really nice. I had to build it quickly enough that I didn't get any nesting boxes in but figured I had 8-12 months to do it in. WELL my chickens started laying eggs before some were even 4 months old! However, being summer one nest is in the corner of the coop, one is outside on top of a bag of bedding and other is up on some wire shelving. All have soft bedding but they are places chosen by my chickens and I'm just going with it. I did create another bed in an old cat litter box for those chicks who are yet to start laying. and I'll make a couple of boxes for inside the coop for winter laying if they so decide to do it. I started with a low roosting bar with a step and as their wings developed I made a higher perch for them and took down the old one. Worked for us. Actually I have two roosts because there are two exceptionally gentle chickens and to prevent abuse they roost on the "special" perch. When I worked at the a horse rescue one of the skills I learned is how to group the horses by temperament; I figure it's the chickens. I leave the food out 24/7 but have no problems with other predators. The squirrels are kept away maybe by my two cats who love to watch the chickens but don't bother them. One feisty chicken chase one of my cats but she was easily taught not to do that. I have question -- sometimes the chickens have this loud grating sound. It's as loud as the egg laying sound but it's grating. I go out to see if there's an issue and they usually stop but not always. If I let one do it others start taking up the sound and it's very unpleasant. It seems like it's an alpha, complaining sort of gesture. Do you have any experience with this? They also do it non stop when they want out of the coop, and it's getting earlier and earlier each day. I tried to ignore it and train them that they need to be patient but it's so disturbing and I get concerned about the neighbors.
Hi Becky can you help me? I need to keep my chickens off my back deck! Help how can I keep them off it? Maybe to a video or message me. They free roam all day don't help that as they were tiny chicks their home was on the deck (lesson learned) till I moved them to the chicken coop. Thanks, Patty
Keep them in the coop. Mine are the same way. If I leave them loose and come inside, they are all laying up against the door waiting for me to come back out. I have to laugh, except for the poo, I just can't stand the poo on my porch so I keep them in the coop and just let them out in little "bits"☀️❤️☀️
A rat snake got into my hen house and ate one of my chicks, it was so small I couldn’t believe it could even eat it. It was stuck in the coop and too fat & full to escape.
There's no predators in Hawai, wild chickens are a PLAGUE in this state. Nothing kills them except bad dog owners ( the owners are bad, not the dogs). We wish we had predators. It's a Huge problem on Kauai.
I have 11 egg layers hens right now a mixture of Rode Island and white leghorn. I also have 12 chicks a 4 weeks old now, a mixture of brown, and colored egg layers.
23 chickens is a lot. They will cost a lot to feed and care for, plus need a lot of room to be happy and healthy. Your going to have your hands full, have fun☀️❤️☀️
Morning when she says in the coop for letting them out that means coop and run not just locked in the coop unless you have a very large coop.

Thanks Becky. It not really when you. Insider they never get to free range due to foxes, coyotes & hawks.
Thank you, great information!

I am having trouble getting my chickens to go in the coop. What can I do?
Leave them in there for 10 to 14 days like I said in the vider☀️❤️☀️
Hi Becky can chicks eat the powder maize meal or can they eat cooked rice

I also want to get two more pullets but will need to figure out integration of them. Making them perches from bamboo and driftwood for fun:
They’re addicted to sunflower seeds
Hi Becky can my chicks eat maize meal the powder or cooked rice or can they eat both
Can you do other video besides chicken?

LOL, for sure!
I have a question. My chicken are laying on each others eggs and are protecting them. Is that normal?
That is very normal. You have a broody hen. Just collect all the eggs every day☀️❤️☀️
Thanks Becky!
What is that chicken breed called that you have that has a long neck and is coloured like a barred rock?
I have a Black Australorp but they don't look like a Barred Rock☀️❤️☀️
I think you’re referring to Becky’s non chicken. It’s a Guinea Fowl.
Flying None oh thanks
Oh & btw you look so good I'm wondering what you eliminated from your diet to loose so much weight.
