    Another struggling Texas gardener here feeling your pain!
    Your videos help keep me motivated, inspired and pushing on in spite of the relentless heat and lack of rain.
    Thanks so much.

    I am so impressed by how you just go out there and do the work. Here in the Netherlands we never go above the hundreds, but a few years back we did, and it was horrendous. Plants died and so did I 😂 Thanks for going out there and filming for us!❤

    I also am in ntx (mid cities) it has been blazing hot...but like you I Sooooo enjoyed the couple days of 94/95 degrees...took advantage of it to do alot like you! Now it's going to be even hotter this next 2 weeks than it has been 😨..I have lost a few things as well.. most making it..some struggling..and like the one comment...the grasshoppers have been brutal... they ate all my leaves on a couple rose of Sharon's which had never happened before...and they have just demolished leaves all over.. thankfully not to many other bugs! I am having a major wasp problem...there are all different kinds and they're everywhere and hovering my bird baths ugh! We do not have any wasp nest on our property...so a neighbor must have some huge nest ! 😮 awful! Sadly the birds and animals are really struggling in this heat too 😢.. stay cool and safe...and thank you for still putting videos out! ❤

      The heat is just awful … we have quite a few wasps as well but I haven’t been able to locate their nests!

    Your garden looks 10 times better than mine. I’m south of Fort Worth, and between the grasshoppers and this heat I have very few things that are looking good. So you’ve done well to keep what you have - don’t feel bad about that for sure. It is a struggle this year. Grasshoppers ate every last one of my zinnia blooms. And my hibiscus. The list as long. And the heat burned up everything else. It was bad like this 7 or so years ago so hopefully next year will be easier

      😢YES! I live in San Angelo and the grasshoppers were brutal!! They,also ate all my,zinnias and my,Showtime Crabapple. I tried all kinds of deterrent and organic insecticide. They,don't care! I'm so sad. 😔

      Grasshoppers are bad in Crowley too! Between that and the bunnies this year has been terrible. Hibiscus are just sticks. I haven't had rain since early June either. I'm so ready for fall.

      Grasshoppers have been tough for so many people this year.

    We're still in the 100+ temperatures and haven't had rain since June!!!!! My husband and I skidder out in early morning to water and do whatever we can to keep things alive. Like you, we are in survival mode down here in Cypress, TX. Your gardens still look good considering the heat trauma they've endured. You're always encouraging to watch.

    We gardeners are funny about taking "cooler" days (95) to get garden chores done....I set an alarm on my phone to water new plants...this has saved many a newbie in the garden....DRINK WATER!.....

    I have super sensitive hands. A trick a dermatologist gave us years ago-- use cetaphil creme (not lotion-cream), then slather vaseline on top of that, and wear the gloves over night. It's one of the few things that helps when mine are cracking. I started making sure I was better at wearing gloves when I came across a scorpion in a clump of dirt!!!! And yes, the heat is ridiculous this year. Hoping it means we will have a great fall.

    Im so happy to hear all your struggles due to the heat/new climate change problems-me too! Even the nesting bird poop our swallows just left-their concrete nest and poop remains. I dont know what is left alive on my back patio- last I checked the coles and impatiens were still with me. Now I have covid so my gardening season is basically done. Im not even gonna do mums this Fall I always kill them! 😢 i love watching you garden so I will stick with that. We had a cold snap for 2 days 93 dgrees!😂

    I have a product called In the Garden Barrier Cream. Gloves should help. I feel for all of you in the south and west dealing with unrelenting heat but your garden still looks pretty amazing. Admire you getting out in your garden and filming videos in 100 degrees.

    Happy Fourth of July
    Have you ever thought about the fact that the hydrangea is getting scorch because of that window that you have it in front of? The reason I say that is because I have a sunporch and my lawn gets scorched only where the sun window is food for thought open parentheses I’ve watched that plant grow for a couple of years now and it does the same thing and it just occurred to me about the window.)

    • @shesamadgardener
      @shesamadgardener  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Good point! However the rust on the leaves brushed off with my fingers, so I don’t think it’s scorch.

    Amanda what time was it when you were working outside? Don’t forget to drink water. I’m watering containers daily, others a couple times a week only. There’s just not much for me to clean up. I have zero color going on right now. My potted hydrangea is in a covered area and is watered daily but the heat is still too much! I’ve lost lantanas that were planted in full sun. Is there a native Texas plant book that you like? Thanks. -Robin in Arlington

    So, with your huechera's that are struggling to save them for now maybe put in some pots for Fall containers and then your shade garden when ready 😊

    Hey Amanda, it’s Amanda. Enjoy your day. Stay cool it’s burning up here in Mississippi. We had a break for the last two days but it’s supposed to get hot this weekend.

    Have you thought about shade cloth or even umbrellas? I know you care anout how things look, but that hot sun is flushing good money down the drain. Even just tacking up tarps would help.

    • @shesamadgardener
      @shesamadgardener  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I have lots of shade cloth but right now, I’m kinda indifferent …. It’s just survival of the fittest in my garden this year.

    Do you grow your plumbago as a perennial or annual? If perennial, do you do anything specific to make sure it survives winter?

    • @shesamadgardener
      @shesamadgardener  ปีที่แล้ว

      I do not but it has come back before in the past … I don’t find it to be a reliable perennial for me.

    Those poor hydrangeas. Maybe if you double or tripled the water to them?

    • @shesamadgardener
      @shesamadgardener  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They get watered twice a day … it’s just their cycle and they have already flushed out new leaves and are looking fresh!
