When you scanned your garden I realized just how much you’ve inspired me. My yard now has gomohrena, celosia, zinnias, and rudbeckia in the same color palette. Thank you for your wonderful videos and your encouragement to start from seed and just keep planting. We also get hit by extreme Summer heat but picking the right plants makes a big improvement in garden longevity. Thank you!
Thanks for the garden tour. Always love your transparency in showing what's working and what's not. Those zinnias are all beautiful and, in my opinion, the summer workhorse of the garden. They just don't quit and perform beautifully in our sizzling Texas heat. Don't feel bad about the areas that aren't performing as well. Those of us who struggle with extreme weather conditions all have areas that we wish we could hide. Stay cool and let's hope we're done with our triple digit temperatures soon.
🌞 the bird house gourds are so sweet. I almost bought seeds yesterday but my garden is not ready for those yet. It’s tough to get out in this heat. I have a ton of grooming to do too. Your gardens still look good and will really be shining in another month Have you seen the moon? It’s been gorgeous and really lights up the gardens at night. ❤
I don't want to make any assumptions, however, I have a beauty berry (gets the purple berries in fall), and I cut mine back to about 12" every year. I believe they flower on new wood. This year it came up too wide and I trimmed it after some of the spring growth had started and it still is flowering and I expect berries in a few weeks. Check your variety again, it may be fine to cut it way back and still get berries next fall.
I appreciate that you share all of your garden ideas and projects. Thank you for enriching us with details about plants, what they are, how they grow and how they work (or not:)) in your hot Texas Garden:) 🌻🌼🌷🌱🌹🏵
Amanda, the alstroemeria do die back in the heat and you might think they are gone. But leave the willow trellis because they will pop back up for early spring blooms.
Hi Amanda I grew the cactus dahlia from seed. They did really great. Also I had luck with wrapping the stems of squash/zucchini in tinfoil and it seemed to protect them from squash bugs!😊
I think everything still looks beautiful ❤ and I love the gourds and louffas! Don't beat yourself up, we all have those areas if the garden that get neglected!
For August your garden looks pretty darn good. On a side note….i followed your direction on starting Lisianthus seeds. I have about 70% germination. First time! I am so excited.
I never heard of coco marigolds until watching one of your videos. I ordered a packet of seeds and now they are blooming profusely with enormous blooms. Some of my neighbors have been asking what they are. My only experience with marigolds had been the small bedding ones and I was never a fan. I love the cocos and will definitely plant them again.
The garden looks amazing considering the weather! I've given up on butterfly bushes even tho I love them. 😢 This year the grasshoppers have made my sweet potato vines look like Swiss Cheese, but luckily they seem to have moved on now. And I've had more squash vine borer destruction than squash bugs, which has been really discouraging.
I guess some plants feel about like we do at this time of year and just want to give up! In another month or so, that should change and the plants and us will get that needed burst of some cooler drier air! (I hope😂)
My yard is the same, some areas are beautiful n other areas, they need to be cut back. I never grew a fall garden. You have inspired me to try one. In Florida, I have so many coleus plants that I grew from send. I'm hoping I can use them n my 5 varieties of lantanas that I have in my fall garden.
Hi Amanda. I can’t imagine trying to keep up with all the beautiful plants you have on all your property. I have a question ☺️ In your back area why you don’t have big beds (like in the front) ? It sure would remove a lot of the grass that I think you have mentioned. 🤗
This back garden is only 4 years old … originally it had only grass … no trees, no garden, nothing … so I have built up over the years within my budget but I would love to have no grass some day.
My cestrum gets cut down to the ground every year and it still grows huge. Way huge. I’m curious to see how you will prune it to fit that space. Mine is mostly allowed to get as wide as it wants to be but I’m looking forward to seeing a different approach. It’s always covered in butterflies and hummingbirds ❤
Amanda, what I’m remembering right now is that new growth is from the ground. I cut the top of the plant at the end of the season. Once I see new growth in the spring I cut the remaining stems to the ground. (Very much like I do a hardy hibiscus except the cestrum is more woody)
Amanda, where did you get the wire trellis material you use in the troughs along the back of your garden? I've never seen any that size and think it would be perfect for my garden. Thanks!
How long will the zinnias last? I usually plant a winter garden of violas and snapdragons; but not sure when to plant them. My space is small so the zinnias have to go first. I am in 9a.

I’m so glad to help!
Thanks for showing the whole plant. Usually, the nurseries online only show the blooms. Now I can see just how BIG these plants can get!
You are so welcome!

You are a plant trooper for bearing the heat and making a beautiful yard for all seasons 😊

Thank you!
Always a pleasure to watch a tour of your garden! ❤

Everything is looking pretty good considering our temps. Thanks for sharing the shade garden!
Any time!
Ooh the Japanese maple in the shade garden would look amazing!
I’m excited about the idea!

Good to know, I’ll give my a cut back this fall.

Yeah I think I’m going to have to dig up my butterfly bushes …. It’s just not worth it 🤷♀️

So it come back from the roots for you? Do you ever leave the branches and if so, does new growth come off of the existing branches?

It’s cattle panels that I cut in half length wise.
@@shesamadgardener I wondered, thanks!

For me, they will last until mid to late October if I do a good job harvesting.
