    This video was much easier to understand than the instructions! I bought the red slim-line one American Standard from Costco. We had to reuse the old 'L' pipe cause it wouldn't line up exact. We replaced a 17 year old builder grade Insinkerator. Even tho the new one had the new sink insert, we didn't use it because the old one wasn't leaking. Was able to just twist up the new one! And love the kitties supervising.😻 Thank you again for the great help video!

    I'm having to replace mine and came across your video. While I know it will require a wall outlet for plug in and a switch to turn on and off, which is good for me, would I be able to use this American Standard model if the previous insinkerator appeared to need an electrical wire connection on the underside of the disposal?

    Great video! My husband tried for an hour to remove the Costco garbage disposal, amidst much cussing. I found your video and told him to try removing the hose and pipe first, and hitting the 'ear' thingies in the opposite direction. Problem solved! Now he's going to Costco to get a new one, because the old one is making noise, he says. It was always loud but now it's louder. I think he broke it by putting onion skins down it.

    • @tetmax
      @tetmax  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Ashika! Thank you for commenting! I am glad to hear you installed it fine. 😊😊😊
      Answering your question - mine does produce some kind of a light engaging metal sound but it sounds like a normal thing for any powerful electric motor, so it does not bother me. If it bothers you and you are not sure if that sound is healthy or not, I would definitely call the tech support and ask them this question. It is important to make sure the unit functions properly from the start to avoid any accidents. Hope you resolve it fine!

    • @dsbassoon
      @dsbassoon 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The metal clicking sound is the impellers swinging into place. That is normal. The permanent magnet motors start at a much higher torque and speed then the old-style induction motors.

    IMPORTANT: The video makes it look like some existing parts were used, like the clamp, sink drain, and drain tube. When possible, use the drain tube and seal that comes in the box. I used the existing one from my old Badger 5. It didn't make a good seal and constantly leaked. Replacing it with the one that came with the unit made my problems go away.

    • @tetmax
      @tetmax  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you for your comment, Kasey.
      I re-used the drain tube only. The clamp and the dishwasher hose are not the part of the package. In reality the only thing that is 'a must' to be replaced during that installation is a rubber gasket, as old gaskets do get bad and lose their elasticity.
      The video shows at 2:11 that the gasket included in the package was removed from the curved black drain tube and immediately installed on the old white drain tube.
      Using the old gasket is the only thing that may cause any leakage. But again, it is my own opinion. If, whatever you did helped your issues go away that was the right thing to do!
      Thanks again for sharing your experience! )))

    • @tetmax
      @tetmax  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BOHICA_ yes, you are correct, but I meant out of the things that were included in the package. There was a new drain tube in the package but I did not see any need in using it - just replaced the gasket. A new sink drain was not included in the package, if there was one included in the box I would install it!

    Max, we hired someone to install our Costco disposal and after seeing your video he never did the part to knock out the plug and connect the hose to the air inlet. After seeing your video I could do that part myself (I think anyways) but the guy we hired must have taken the hose and part where it attaches to the disposal with him. We hired this guy from Thumbtack online, so I don’t know how contact him to find out why he never attached the dishwasher.

    • @tetmax

      There are 2 ways to do it:
      1. Install an outlet and plug in the disposer.
      2. Cut off the disposer plug and connect wires from the disposer and those coming from the wall together using electrical wire connectors.
      These are having in mind there is a turn on/off switch that powers the wall wire.

    So my handyman picked up this unit and installed it. The problem is that the rubber gasket will not allow water to drain down. I literally have to hold it open. Is this a problem for anyone?

    • @tetmax
      @tetmax  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Leisa! Thanks for visiting. Yes, it was the case with my unit as well. I had to remove the gasket when running water in the beginning of using the unit while placing it back when grinding so there were no splashes out. But in a few weeks, after you push the waste down all the time, the rubber opened up a bit and now it is perfectly fine - enough for the water to run trough and no splashes. Just give it some time and it will get OK very soon.

      I see. Yes, there are 3 possible ways to do it. But you need to know how to be safe during that kinda work and I cannot give an advice via comments here for that reason. Try to search for a video or text instructions of people who did that particular work and follow their steps if you feel they are safe and you understand what they are doing. Good luck!

    I have this model in my house, it was installed by the previous owners...not sure how long ago. The sink is backing up and the disposal is dripping slowly from the connection to the sink down to the bottom of the disposal....talking to my dad, a very handy guy, he assured me that there should be a hole on the bottom of the unit that I can use an Allen Wrench and turn....this unit has no hole. He doesn't believe me haha. Any tips? I checked the p-trap and its clear. HELP PLEASE! :)

    • @tetmax
      @tetmax  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Deidre! Sorry to hear about your problem. Honestly, I did not understand what the problem exactly was. Is that that the connection between the sink and the disposal is not good and it is leaking or is it something else?

    • @KellySims3
      @KellySims3 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the allen wrench trick is to help when the unit seizes and won't turn. It's common to see a hex hole on the underside of many garbage disposals but not this model. It's also not relevant to your issue. Was possibly installed without plumbers putty or gasket isn't seated correctly between drain pipe and unit.

    hi, where is the turn on or turn off switch?

    • @tetmax
      @tetmax  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Andy, the switch does not exist on the actual unit itself. There must be a separate light like switch somewhere in the kitchen that turns on /off electricity that flows towards the electric outlet where the unit plugged in. Normally that switch is located far away from the sink so you cannot have one of your hands inside the sink and be able to reach that switch and damage yourself.

    Sadly this unit is half a centimeter larger than my old badger and not having an adjustable drain pipe means I’m going to have to shave some off the end of the pipe to make the unit line up with the sink hole.

    • @tetmax
      @tetmax  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello! Thank you for commenting, Megan. Sorry to hear that the disposer does not fit properly. Costco has a great return policy. Why don't you just return the disposer and get the one that fits perfectly under your sink?

    • @BOHICA_
      @BOHICA_ 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is not uncommon. The slip tube drain usually has a range of of about 1.5 inches you can have where it still seals. It doesn't have to butt against the edge of the other drain pipe.
