This is my fav type of your videos. I learn a lot from them even if they don’t directly apply to my situation at the time. Thanks for taking us along! 😁
Kudos for all of you who are taking care of dendrobiums NOT in the tropics. You are amazing. Thinking about it while gazing at the aphyllum growing like crazy on my durian tree😅😅
Thank you so much for this video! I was wondering what to do with the keikis growing on two Dendrobium seedlings I have. Now I know to leave them on- but your idea to lay them in the pot really helps me visualize how I will do something similar when they get bigger.
The sound of the flame thrower and the water bottle sounded the same and I thought you were torching the pot when you were misting it and I was like Danny NOOO! 🤣
Hi Danny! Great video. I like your ‘trial and error’ approach, makes the growing experience real. I have a dendrobium keiki that fell off of the small mother cane while I was trying to repot it. I’ve repotted it in moist sphagnum moss. Will see how long it takes to grow.🌱
Hi Danny. Congrats on your dendrobium. I have an older dendrobium also full of kiekis and was able to keep keiki going by cutting off and replant. One of my older no id Phal was root rotting, leaves were relatively healthy, and I decided to cut off whole root system leaving only stem. After two months sitting in spagnum moss (soaked with ro water) and leaves depleting energy bc lack of roots it's giving me a new keiki. Will check in a couple days to check if a root is developing.
Good information! I don't have any dendrobium keikeis yet, but l have a dendrobium which was sunburned last week , so it may happen. At least l'll be prepared!
Thank you for posting this video! I’m all “Keikis” today!! Early this morning I realized I have my first Keiki ever. And it’s on my only Dendrobium! I’m so excited but SO nervous!! Maybe I can get it to live. When I found it I drIpped a little distilled water on the exposed roots. I’m so scared it will die if I try to remove it :/
Yup I have lots of those dendrobium keikis here, if the growth of the season is compromised, it will stop the growth and puts it's energy on keikis on the next season and no blooms. I experience it with my dendrobium anosmum alba. I have no choice but to give the best care for the keikis. It takes years for it to bloom because anosmum is bigger than the aphyllum. I also do that technique 😂 I pot it along with the mother cane. I hate the fact that nurseries gave deciduous dendrobiums with single growth and roots. I think with extra bare canes will help with acclimating it to the new environment.. 😂
Thank you. I was looking for something like this about dendrobium keikis. Last year I bought a dendrobium phaleonpsis from a supermarket few months after she dropped all the leaves and just sat there dormant (witch I don't mind at all as long as she don't die) and about a month ago she went crazy into keikis and I didn't know what to do. 😱 I have 5 canes and all of them have 2-3 keikis. Don't mind the low ones close to medium but some are on top of the canes and will not reach the medium... Insanity. For me at least... You said that keikis should be on the cane as long as possible to make use of the sap (which makes sense of course!) so I'll adhere to your words and remove them way way later. PS. Stay calm and be happy 😊
I had a very similar thing with my dendrobium (nobile? maybe?) It was in beautiful bloom when I got it, then went dormant.. when it woke up, it's been keiki central! As the canes were dying, I plucked the keiki's off and stuck them in medium. oops 🤦♀️ This is a much better option for next time.
I've taken a Keiki and put it in a plastic baggy with sphagnum moss and it grew but I took it out wayyy too late by the time i took it out of the baggy the moisture inside the bag made the keiki soggy and it didn't make it. You can detach them from the orchid and place them in a plastic baggy with sphagnum moss and they will bounce back.
Hi love I have a Phalaenopsis orchid and she has grown a keiki. The stem of the orchid has dried out and the new leaves on the keiki have started wilting. The keiki does not have any new roots. Is the keiki dying or should I just get rid of the stem?
I got a dendrobium that was mounted that just has not been doing well in my low humidity. I removed it from the mount and put it into sphagnum moss, but it is continuing to decline. Do you think I could bag it up to help with humidity until it has recovered?
Love your videos, always learning something new. I just went back to some of your older videos regarding self-watering pots and semi-hydro. There are some TH-camrs that refer to using leca and wicks which to me is self-watering but they call it semi-hydro. I thought semi-hydro meant a pot had drainage holds on the side. Is there a difference or is it just what you call it. you know potato, potatoe
Hi, well the person who came up with the setup that has the reservoir calls it semi hydro firstrays.com/free-information/basic-orchid-culture/semi-hydroponics/ Then I came up with (or popularized I guess) the whick thing idea a few years ago and didn't call it anything, just self watering with leca. But none of these are registered names so, people can call it whatever, I'll stick to the original names people gave them so that I don't create confusion and respect the original creator's idea ☺️
2 years ago I detached a minikeiki (2 cm long with 2 roots 1 cm long) from the dead dendrobium nobile mother cane. The keiki survived, but neither he nor his roots have grown any more, but last year he made 2 keiki that grew twice as high (4 cm) as the mother /minikeiki. This year they look like a mature but dwarf plant (4 cm tall) and the roots are finally growing (8 cm). A further 3 keiki appeared (6 in all) which do not want to grow and which in turn have roots 1 cm long. Dany, can you please write me your opinion on this anomalous growth? Does it depend on the fact that the first keiki detached 2 years ago from the dead mother was "premature" like a baby born in 5 months of gestation? Do I have hope that in a couple of years it will become a normal dendrobium nobile? Thank you very much
Update: the keikis are all grown up and I have a healthy new plant! Video soon!
I was wondering that. Thanks 😊
Dendrobium aphyllum is a wild orchid here in my village in Sikkim, India, you can find it growing in almost every tree.
❤️
You lucky!! 😀
That dendrobium in bloom was stunning.
Your videos are so relaxing and informative! Thanks for getting me into orchids!

What a great idea. I will definitely use it if I ever get keiki’s. Thanks for sharing 🤗💝
Thank you for your help with dendridium it was very helpful
Very good one....... I also noticed an engagement ring 💍 , congratulations 🎉

This will definitely work. Well worked for one of my Orchids 🤔. Good luck!
Keep safe queen Danny🙏🙏🙏

Would planting it in a rectangle tray not help by lying the cane straight long the length of the tray?

that's a beautiful dendrobium. What kind is that?

Would a shallow container be more sufficient. That’s a lot of medium,…🤗
My dendrobium has two keikis . But the stems look dried and there are no leave. How do I protect it
My dendrobium keikis are at the top of the stem . It has no leaves. How do I get the roots yo grow

Did i hear a parrot at 5:54?
My orchids roots are black, some of the new roots are black at the tips, but firm, so I'm confused here.

How are the brothers progressing?
This is just in time, I'm trying to save an Oriental Smile 'Fantasy'.
What kind of sprayer is that
Hi, I have one just like it added in my Amazon shop linked in description ☺️
I got some keikis but not healthy don't know where I'm going wrong
Am I the only who saw that crawler at 3:35? 😅😅😅
I hope you are not close to the fire😱. Stay safe!
I find aphyllum to be a bit of a fussy sp with the fact that it's canes shrivel up and die/rot at the base pretty easily.
Idk why it does that 😭
Hi, I'm sure it was just bad luck, they seem just like all other deciduous ones, so don't give up! 🧡

Hi Danny, did you get engaged?
Привет. Hello.
