I've worked with junksets for many years. Better scrapped than tagged. We are experiencing failure frequency that i think is greater than older locomotives that have been in service for over 30 years. I haven't seen actual numbers but when you have several 30 year old SD38-2's that break down less that a brand new RP20SD something is wrong! These RP20's were attached to highway funding bill under a grant to the state of Illinois with the promise that the SD38's would be scrapped. We had a dog and pony show with the currennt county board commisioner and I shook hands with her and met some other people who's names i don't know. All i could think of is how much the state wasted their money with this purchase. We had already had one or two RP20's in service already and i saw the labor pains of problems already. A gift from the previous administration.
Are those new paint schemes for the Union Pacific? Colorful little buggers aren't they? Loved the sneaks hanging from the wig wag signal, nice touch. You Californians have got it going on.
Awesome video, Snuffy! Will they remove those wig wag's? Because I really don't want them to. Wig wag's are the most rare crossing signals you could see.
This is one thing that really makes me mad it's okay if Hooligans vandalize railroad freight cars but it really bothers me that they vandalize locomotives and Passenger cars I wish they'd leave those alone
Good to see a Classic Wig-Wag Crossing still working and surviving. Not many left in service anymore. How in heck did those UPY units get ALL TAGGED UP LIKE THAT?!?!! *_* Rough Ghetto Neighborhood? Local Graffiti Artist Hangout? NO Union Pacific RR Police Securing Their Locomotives?
Glad to see the ol' wig wag still wiggin' and waggin'. But it just kills me to see those genys so tagged up. Great video, Snuffy.
Better tagged up than scrapped.
Very true.

I really hope they don't take down the wig wag after the new guard installations
L Sad news the wigwag was taken down
Thanks once again.
Good catch. Knowing when they run by.
Awesome Video
Good vid. Nice wig wag. I suppose the UP has just accepted that tagging is just part of doing business in east LA.

Matthew The Railfanner Probably. There is still some chances. If they do remove it, I hope they atleast put a Western Cullen Hayes bell.
They are already removed sadly

I don't think that the light in the wig wag is working. I think if they wanted to fix it they'd be forced to replace the whole thing!

Where do these locomotives get stored? That's a lot of graffiti ... that must have taken a long time to do. And they don't get caught?
