that one shot of * everyone in the whole freakin' galaxy* arriving to battle the final order as opposed to no one is one of the many things this film did to correct the mistakes of the Last Jedi. I liked this film.
Not really an easter egg, but something I haven't seen mentioned elsewhere: We've established the strong implication in the film that Finn is force-sensitive, but there's a subtler suggestion that goes along with this: That Finn is destined to be Rey's first padawan (as Leia was to Luke), and that that may even be the ultimate reason the Force brought them together to begin with.
HUGE ONE THAT I HAVE YET TO SEE MENTIONED IN A SINGLE VIDEO: in the Death Star II throne room scene, Rey and Kylo's lightsaber battle begins with Kylo dodging all of Rey's blows by doing exactly the same steps that Luke made when dodging Kylo's blows in TLJ.
The reason why they only showed the twins is because they were trying to show that Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia were more of reys parents/mentors than her own parents were because her parent sacrificed their selves to keep Rey alive when later she would meet Luke and Leia who would become her mentors and in the end when she chose to be a Skywalker not a Palpatine she was choosing Luke and Leia instead of her own parents in which her father being Palpatine.

I loved that she had a yellow lightsaber at the end. From what I’ve read the yellow lightsabers are used by the guards of the Jedi temple. The way I see it is shes the “last Jedi” and all the Jedi live in her kinda Avatar the last airbender style. So she’s basically the one guarding the future of the Jedi so the yellow lightsaber fits. Like how Luke’s lightsaber was green symbolizing how he became more knowledgeable in the force. Green lightsabers are typically for users who are more force focused, not as much in combat (Yoda, Qui-Gon)
DampishEye not sure, there’s several places where they find the crystals for lightsabers. I understand why they cut it cause of time but I’m cool with it
Casimir1100 I did forget about that vader comic, but it’s still kinda weird how she just has it all of a sudden. It would’ve been really cool if we got a scene where she built it to complete her journey as a jedi.
Thank you for mentioning some special moments in the film score! I think it's also worth including a note about the way, in the last act, Kylo's theme evolves into what I'll call "Ben's Theme". Same rhythm, but the pitch is higher and the note progression ultimately goes up instead of down. I first heard it when Ben arrived on Exegol to join Rey, and I heard it again soon after Ben climbs out of the pit to find Rey. If you have the soundtrack album, you can hear the second instance starting precisely 1 minute into "Farewell". It becomes beautiful and tragic. Keep listening, though, because around the 2:29 mark you'll hear Ben's theme merge with Rey's theme to create something new.
Are we going to ignore the fact that Rey’s yellow lightsaber indicates she is a sentinel Jedi? This was described in great detail in KOTOR and Jedi Knight games. What’s even better is that Rey personality, skills, and actions are perfectly aligned to sentinels.
Magaly Wing A Jedi Sentinel is a branch of a Jedi just like a Consular or Guardian. A Sentinel is good enough at dueling and has strong knowledge of previous Jedi and a strong user of the force. A Consular is more of the study of the force, and not a really good duelist- Jedi Consular users are not very common but if a Star Wars character most resembles them, then I would say Yoda, since he is very strong with the force. Yoda although did have a very good duel against Darth Sidious in Revenge of the Sith, but in the Clone Wars duel he pretty much only used the force. A Jedi Guardian is a really good duelist but not a great force user, kind of like Qui Gon Jinn, Anakin Skywalker, or Mace Windu. I hope that sums it up for you!
Definitely ,although I believe Qui-Gon Jinn was a Consular as well (he had a green lightsaber and was far more into diplomacy than a younger, brasher Obi-Wan in Ep. 1) rather than a Guardian.
Billie Lourd (Lt Connix) was dressed like Leia at the end of Return of the Jedi during the final battle, camo poncho and a single braid encircling a bun on top of her head.
A couple things: 1: Leia is not one of the force voices, neither is Ezra. You missed Aayla Secura, Luminara Unduli, and Adi Gallia 2: When mentioning the ships, you also missed the Mandalorian Fang Fighter from Rebels.
You talk about you wanting C3PO to remember Anakin but Bale Organa had C3PO'S mind wiped at the end of episode 3 so he doesn't know who Anakin is or anything about his past.
It is possible that C3PO's memory has been backed up into R2D2 since they first met so it could have been restored to a very early date, especially since he mentioned R2D2's storage is highly unreliable.
E- THAN yea but anakin is the one that first programmed C3PO so I thought it would’ve been cool for him to say something like where is master anakin or something
Oh, next time you watch this movie pay special attention to the Easter Egg at the very beginning - it goes by fast and is easy to miss but episode IX starts with the same blue text that the original movies did - “A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away....”
My favorite was Wedge being among the fighters that arrived at the end for the rebels. He's the most important tertiary character in the whole series, and I'm glad they brought him back.
Did anyone else catch the part where they literally 'spilled the beans'? Rey was in Kylo's quarters; Kylo was in the market, and they were doing their light saber battle. One of them slashes into a bag/container of beans causing them to spill, all while we learn one of the biggest reveals. This was quite the pun..
A musical easter egg. At the end of the credit roll, they re-play the original score and orchestration of John Williams from A New Hope opening title, Binary Sunset, and a few other major themes for Leia and Luke. Hands down the moment that made me cry the most in the movie
I caught the John Williams cameo which was nice as well as Wedge Antelis from the Original trilogy as well as the same dialogue Palpatine giving the same exact speech to Anakin during the senate scene in Revenge of the Sith to Kylo Ren.
Two things: - Pretty certain that one of the pilots you see in the final battle is 3P0's actor in the flesh and not covered in robot bits - Lin Manuel Miranda has a very brief cameo at the end celebrations, and wrote one of the songs for the film.
I think I know which pilot you're referring to and it's not Anthony Daniels, but you're right that it's a notable character. That pilot is Wedge Antilles from the original trilogy. He's an OG rebel pilot who survived the attacks on both death stars. I love that he came back for that cameo.
Knowing full well I’ll probably get hate for this, I loved this movie. 3rd favorite after Return of the Jedi and Revenge of the Sith. I thought it was solid, and a great ending to the saga. Sure it had problems, but as a lifelong Star Wars fan, this made me feel like a little kid again. I believed in heroes and villains and I believed that the Light will overcome the Dark. This movie did so much more than entertain me. It made me happy.
@@ortasian anakin has a full body as ghost aswell, maybe minus 1 hand too, but he was in episode 6 with his gull body because when he fought obi wan he wasnt a jedi anymore, he qas a sith. But the force ghost resembles his jedi appearence
When Luke's force ghost catches the lightsaber Rey throws into the burning TIE fighter, he says "Hey, you should treat these things with respect", which is a jab to how Luke handled the saber Rey handed to him at the beginning of Last Jedi.
You can see Kylo’s red lightsaber in Luke’s X-Wing when Rey lands in the resistance base to celebrate. She purifies the unstable red kyber crystal inside, and that’s how she got a yellow saber. Kind of a thoughtful thing since Kylo sacrificed his life for her. This is in reference to Jaden Korr purifying an unstable red crystal in Legends.
anyone else like how a strong force user was actually showcased with some abilities besides push, pull and jumping around. we actually got some representation of what all star wars material besides the movies says they should be.
Ruben Guzman we know it is a jab at Ryan Johnson because Rae then says she is going to hide just like Luke did. And then Luke replies “that was a bad idea” in a very snarky tone. It is hilarious!

I dig your videos, but Jedi's bringing people back to life, dates before the Mandalorian. It's also in the Clone Wars where Anakin brings Ahsoka back to life using the force as well...
PrideBrary I have issues with this being a thing. If it was possible all along then he wouldn’t have had to turn to Sidious and the dark side to save padme. He only turned because it wasn’t possible to save her/heal her/bring her back from the dead as a Jedi. Thus he betrayed his friends and the order to become a sith in pursuit of abilities some considered... unnatural. If this was a thing all along, it undermines the whole reason for his betrayal.
Not really a retcon for Luke because when he asked who she was Luke was cut off from the force. So if he reconnected of course he would know who she was.
JJ Abrams says that what Finn wanted to tell Rey was that he was Force-sensitive. Remember when we all wondered about that way back when Return of the Jedi came out? It's nice to have it confirmed.
@@alphawolf8363 When Finn, Rey, and Poe seemed like they were about to die in the sand pit, Finn said (paraphrasing), "Rey, there's something I've been meaning to tell you" - and a lot of fans speculated that what he'd meant to tell her was that he loved her.
@@alphawolf8363 Oh, now I remember what I was talking about! When Return of the Jedi came out, people wondered then if Finn was Force-sensitive because he managed to hold his own against Kylo Ren for a little while.
Oh, I actually thought the 42 years thing was a reference to The Hitchhiker's Guide to The Galaxy. Being that I was born in 77' and am also 42 years old I should have figured that out. Oh well.
At first i thought 42 was the last time Lando n Luke were there on this planet. It is kinda random that the plot brings them to the location just so happen to meet Lando there. I would assume Lando comes back to the festival again to continue the search for something, as an anniversary search or something
You go to the wrong cinema, mine cheered when Landon showed up with all those ships. General Pryde: Where did they get a Navy!!?? Subordinate: it's not a Navy, it's just people!
I think Lando being the girl’s father is a bit too much in a movie of many “too much” moments.. so i decided to view his “lets find out” line as a form of: all the children who were captured and raised to be storm troopers would finally find their homes again. Them being both black was just a coincidence.
Rey and Kylo are Anakin's legacy, both motivated and inspired by him and his deeds directly or indirectly, which technically still makes Anakin the Chosen One from the Prophecy.
i know that people didnt like the ending but i liked it. it was the only way i wanted it to end, sure it was predictable or cliche. i know that, but damn the force theme and then sunset always gets me
I am afraid those that didn't like this one are the ones who don't like Star Wars. I didn't think the Last Jedi Was horrible I thought it was confusing. This one, The rise of Skywalker was a perfect ending. I think JJ deserves a medal from Leia too! I mean what a galaxy sized request, finish this epic story fittingly!
Agreed , it was near perfect as an ending. I only wish we could've seen more of Luke and Anakin's relatives. (And symbolically Rey's) or friends as Force ghosts or memories like Yoda, Anakin,Owen and Beru ,Shmi ,Obi-Wan...Basically all the characters connected to Tatooine where everything opened and closed.
@@timfoote6919 It wasn't even close to a perfect ending. Things were left unresolved (like what Finn wanted to tell Rey) and by burying I think Anakin's and Luke's lightsaber they're basically burying everything that Lucas created. Just think about what Anakin thinks about his lightsaber being buried on the planet he hated the most, and in sand to add to that. So disrespectful and there's no reason to do it. Those lightsabers are endlessly valuable historical artifacts ffs. Finally, the fact that Hayden's force ghost didn't appear once is fucking retarded. The only thing JJ deserves is a slap to the face. And The Last Jedi was objectively shit just for the fact that it broke so many physical and canonical rules, but there's a shit ton more.
I respect your opinion, but from my point of view it was incredibly sloppy. Anakin and his mother lived as slaves on Tattoine, it's where he lost her to Tuskan raiders (which he lasered to death, every man, woman and child) and Luke couldn't wait to get off the planet (that's why he stares longingly into the two suns) to become a pilot and got his wish granted by his only (back then known) half-relatives being slaughtered, he finds their smoking, charred remains in front of the homestead. Leia spent her time on Tattoine chained to and licked at by Jabba the Hut. Happy times! Hanging the lightsabers at the wall of the space cantina would have been more reverent than that. (At least that's where Luke met Han) So absolutely nothing, except "fan" nostalgia points to an ending on Tattoine.
wonder what that's about. almost gives us hope that the story of rey will continue but i've heard multiple accounts say that daisey doesn't want to continue
Luke catching the light-saber and saying "a jedi's weapon deserves more respect" was a way for JJ Abrams to throw shade at the director of The Last Jedi for making Luke throw the lightsaber away.
That moment was pretty good lol. I think a lot of kids have played with flashlights as if they were lightsabers so it was definitely a fun moment that I believe connected with a lot of people.
I really enjoyed this film & how they ended the saga. It does make me realise more what could have been if JJ directed all 3 of the movies. He would have gave proper character development to them all. Definitely my favourite from the sequel trilogy !
Just saw it and it’s too early to know if this is a hot take, but... I enjoyed it If you told me even a year ago thatLindelof and Abrams would produce two franchises with satisfying conclusions I wouldn’t have believed you
Solomon Rivers at least the characters r actually characters this time around. C3PO stole the show. Lando was great and mcdiarmid nails the emperor every time, even if it is weird. However this movie and the Death Star destroyers ruin all the other movies in my opinion.
Solomon Rivers I just feel like the Star destroyers make the Death Star irrelevant. Also they use the light side of the force to heal so y did anakin even turn in the first place. It just feels so rushed(which is Disney’s fault) and it makes everything that came before feel irrelevant. So now Luke never even needed to exist and it would all play out the same with palpatine. They retconned the chosen one and broke the saga. Unfortunately though rians movie gave them no other choice. He left them with nothing. Probably coz they rushed him as well. Greed was the true enemy of the trilogy.
Here’s another one: The shot of all the final order ships looks pretty similar to what we saw at the end of episode 2 when it showed the clone army and a bunch of their ships taking off as palpatine watches
When Rey healed Kylo form his light saber injury I think she healed the scar on his face as well...and maybe his spirit...turning him back into the original Ben.
Yeah didn’t notice enough to confirm the face part but being healed by someone who loved her mom after hearing leía for the last time That would be a huge changer of heart (plus he already had turmoil so this completed it)
The most important Easter egg of all. We finally heard the true tragedy of Darth Plaguis the Wise. The sith apprentice had to kill the Master so that the spirit of all the Sith posseses them and they become more powerful. Palpatine literally told us his endgame in ROTS
Not that I have anything against Rey, because I love the character, but I thought it was great and a little more fitting that Kylo was much stronger in this film. 💜
Bradley Pence yes same. Kylo is in the dark side of the force which makes him automatically really powerful and the fact that he’s trained with Luke for a good while so he’s well versed in the force and lightsaber combat. He shouldn’t have lost the duel in The Force Awakens but whatever.
Random Entertainment emotions or not, he was fighting an untrained girl who has never held a lightsaber before and have never trained with the force either. Kylo has had years of training with Luke and Snoke so shouldn’t have been much of a competition with or without the heavy emotions. Anyways I can see your POV though.
I also believe she lost that fight due to the fact that she was fighting with anger and hatred, which is what made her weak. She used her feelings instead of what the Jedi use, which led to her being very scrappy in her fighting.
It seemed when Rey was climbing through the Death Star to find the way finder it was the same location where obiwan was trying to shut off the shield systems in a new Hope
I'm so glad she was a Palpatine, I would have loved her to be anything else besides a actually a Skywalker. Though I'm not mad she took that name at the end, I wouldn't keep Palpatine either lol
I think she should have been 'just rey ' through all three movies she is always trying to find out who she is and always looks sad when she doesn't know. She should have just owned not worrying about a last name.
Idk if what I read was true or not but reys lightsaber was yellow. From what I read about yellow sabers, one way of making them is with purifying a red unstable kyber crystal. I think she found his saber and made her own own with his crystal in tribute to their love.
Brandon Taylor green kyber crystals are used by Jedi consulars, yellow crystals are used by Jedi temple guards or “Jedi guardians.” Which could possibly mean that the movie points out that Rey will be the guardian of the Jedi as she rebuilds the light side of the force
The original trilogy is consistently good, the prequels start rough but nail the landing and the sequels get the beginning and middle excellent then shit the bed at the end

If they had Luke, Leah, Anakin and Ben at the end scene in Tatooine, it would’ve been complete.
Victor Caparros too true
I was hoping for that as well. Heaven knows they have enough digital images of them when they were young to accomplish it.
I felt the twins were enough. (but secretly wanted Anakin and Padme)
yeah i was pissed they ain't do that
The reason why they only showed the twins is because they were trying to show that Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia were more of reys parents/mentors than her own parents were because her parent sacrificed their selves to keep Rey alive when later she would meet Luke and Leia who would become her mentors and in the end when she chose to be a Skywalker not a Palpatine she was choosing Luke and Leia instead of her own parents in which her father being Palpatine.
Anakin : doesn’t like sand
Rey: Buries his lightsaber in sand

That must have been something JJ borrowed from Rian Johnson’s book of ideas.
The sequel trilogy tried to make you think that was Luke's lightsaber and ignored the fact that Luke built his own inspired after Obi Wan's.

But where did she get the crystal from. It makes no sense. Ilum was transformed into Starkiller Base (it’s obvious) and she never had another crystal.
DampishEye not sure, there’s several places where they find the crystals for lightsabers. I understand why they cut it cause of time but I’m cool with it
Yellow symbolizes balance in the force, somewhere in between light and dark
Casimir1100 I did forget about that vader comic, but it’s still kinda weird how she just has it all of a sudden. It would’ve been really cool if we got a scene where she built it to complete her journey as a jedi.
Very good observation 👍👍

I'm not familiar with the games. Details?
Magaly Wing
Neutral jedi I believe
I can see you are a person of culture...
Billie Lourd (Lt Connix) was dressed like Leia at the end of Return of the Jedi during the final battle, camo poncho and a single braid encircling a bun on top of her head.

A couple things:
1: Leia is not one of the force voices, neither is Ezra. You missed Aayla Secura, Luminara Unduli, and Adi Gallia
2: When mentioning the ships, you also missed the Mandalorian Fang Fighter from Rebels.

Two things:
- Pretty certain that one of the pilots you see in the final battle is 3P0's actor in the flesh and not covered in robot bits
- Lin Manuel Miranda has a very brief cameo at the end celebrations, and wrote one of the songs for the film.
I think I know which pilot you're referring to and it's not Anthony Daniels, but you're right that it's a notable character. That pilot is Wedge Antilles from the original trilogy. He's an OG rebel pilot who survived the attacks on both death stars. I love that he came back for that cameo.

When Luke's force ghost catches the lightsaber Rey throws into the burning TIE fighter, he says "Hey, you should treat these things with respect", which is a jab to how Luke handled the saber Rey handed to him at the beginning of Last Jedi.
Lmao! I missed that! J.J. slapped Ruin Johnson with some movie lines. Nice!
But if you purify a red cristal it become white, right??

I have issues with this being a thing.
That's what I think, too. I figured after Luke died in the Last Jedi, he and Leia were chattin' through the force about all sorts of stuff.
Oh good point, it would make sense that he had no way to tell her connection until afterwards.
Nah Luke literally told Rey that both he and Leia had known, but trained her anyways

Solomon Rivers at least the characters r actually characters this time around. C3PO stole the show. Lando was great and mcdiarmid nails the emperor every time, even if it is weird. However this movie and the Death Star destroyers ruin all the other movies in my opinion.
Addam Riley How so??
42 likes... your comment is worthy.
True
When Rey healed Kylo form his light saber injury I think she healed the scar on his face as well...and maybe his spirit...turning him back into the original Ben.
Yeah didn’t notice enough to confirm the face part but being healed by someone who loved her mom after hearing leía for the last time

Creepy how his scar had migrated across his face since the previous movie. Dark side is no joke.

It's not Jedha that Poe, Rey, and Finn go to, it's Pasaana, the holy city of Jedha was destroyed, remember?
Anyone else happy to see that Kylo was able to finally best Rey in a duel?
Not that I have anything against Rey, because I love the character, but I thought it was great and a little more fitting that Kylo was much stronger in this film. 💜
Bradley Pence yes same. Kylo is in the dark side of the force which makes him automatically really powerful and the fact that he’s trained with Luke for a good while so he’s well versed in the force and lightsaber combat. He shouldn’t have lost the duel in The Force Awakens but whatever.
@@cameronweaver6701 I'd argue that him losing that duel may have had something to do with his emotions, as he had just, you know, killed his dad.
Leia knew about Rey, Luke says 'leia knew' when speaking to Rey as a force ghost.

Idk if what I read was true or not but reys lightsaber was yellow. From what I read about yellow sabers, one way of making them is with purifying a red unstable kyber crystal. I think she found his saber and made her own own with his crystal in tribute to their love.
Joshua Vallejo interesting theory, I’m gonna look into that…
When you purify a red cristal it become withe, not yellow
White lightsabers are cured red lightsabers, yellow are used by Jedi temple guards
01i37dhiwndidb however there must be a reason why hers is yellow. I think it’s more of a force neutral thing
Brandon Taylor green kyber crystals are used by Jedi consulars, yellow crystals are used by Jedi temple guards or “Jedi guardians.” Which could possibly mean that the movie points out that Rey will be the guardian of the Jedi as she rebuilds the light side of the force
I just rewatched it and had to check out the Screencrush video on it... so weird seeing SC pre-puppy Doug!
And now we can begin to reflect and ask ourselves what each trilogy means for the entire saga.
Don’t know bout the first two but this last one was just Disney squeezing more money out of the franchise, sorta like really expensive fan fic
The original trilogy is consistently good, the prequels start rough but nail the landing and the sequels get the beginning and middle excellent then shit the bed at the end
@@scottmcdonnell5403 the originals were corny, about to the level of screencrush mom jokes
@@c5quared626 depends a lot on when you saw them. Blew a bunch of people's minds back in the day. There are parts I like in all of them. To be honest I think I like the idea of star wars and what can come from that world more than the movies themselves. But to each their own. I liked the sequels the least. Had kinda a reverse effect than of the prequels. I didn't care much for the prequels then they grew on me some, I liked the force awakens when I saw it then less and less as time went by. Didn't care for the last at all. Just came here to get a general summary of the new one, didn't intend to watch but was interested in the emporer. If anyone enjoyed it that's cool, I like stuff other people don't. Doesn't matter. Peace.
@@catlady86 with movies or any art, really your very first instinct will tell you if it speaks to you or not. I liked phantom menace, although I hated the name, maybe because it was so far from the sci fi expectation, pha ton of the Opera was a favourite of my older sister, so reactionarily I hated that name. Still I was about 20 when it came out and enjoyed myself in the theater, not sure if my buddy did because he didn't memorize the originals. Still I found jar jar funny yet nonsensical, and not appealing to my age group.
What I am saying is that listen to George Lucas it is his creation from his imagination, it is art. You can love it or loathe it. But please don't take away from my children's experience. Due all of this backlash, starwars has changed itself, the 4th wall and beyond has been taken down, the fans are ruining the show. You see people who like something don't bother going online to reinforce that sentiment, typically. Haters always will, so the studios have only negative reinforcement to judge their quality. This feedback changes the script and direction. If the prequels had LESS feedback, the sequels would be more kid friendly, and the toys would have sold. Maybe.
I say maybe because Treehouse and all the other 24 hours a day cartoon Channels, those make kids only like kid stuff, they don't have patience for any grown up movie with any grown up discussion that lasts longer than 2 minutes, I have timed it.
You can see Palpatine’s cruiser in the background before the chairoom
When Ben gets Rey’s lightsaber from his back, Ben does the same body gesture as Han during ROTJ when he tricks the troopers and officers to come outside only to be surrounded by Ewoks
I said the same thing about the dagger to my bro: "what is this the Goonies?!" Lol
Hey... you... guuuu-uuuuys!!!!
They shoulda put the skeleton of One-Eyed Willie in the corner of the Deathstar ruins. That woulda been an awesome easter egg lol.
LOL Me too.
