    Hi some useful info for the readers : I ordered the 2.1s and 3.1s to see the difference and comfort for my 8year old boy in size 1. Firstly they are both amazing boots - 2.1 weighed 180g, 3.1 weighed 184g ... not much different. 2.1 was much more comfortable though and he preferred them

    The lace loops worried me at first but if those are Kevlar yarns it probably won't be an issue. The tensile strength should be excellent.
    I like that they didn't just make a Merc clone. A wider fit speed boot surely will have an audience. I'll be giving this a try at some point!

    • @BootWizard
      @BootWizard  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I agree, I make exactly that point, the wider fit and less tight feeling may lend itself to a more universally liked boot instead of appealing to a smaller audience of speed boot fanatics. However with that said if that was the aim, the 160g weight seems a strange decision, if you are dropping your boot weight that low, then it's the speed boot heads you want to hit. Feels a bit like trying to have their cake and eat it. Not saying it's bad, just that it feels like Puma didn't know which direction to go and ended up somewhere in the middle. I certainly don't want a Merc clone, but it is pretty much the best speed boot on the market for a reason. Again as I say great tech from puma here, lots of potential, and I think the 2.1 might offer some improvements.
      I'm not sure if the laceloops are Kevlar, I've reached out to puma and not received an answer on the material they have used, my impression is that they are not the Kevlar yarns, if they are, like you say, no problems, if they're not, then firstly why not!!! And secondly I would be a little worried with that kind of set up.
      Overall a good boot, nothing hugely wrong and some great tech, I'm just not sure it knows what it wants to be, the adidas x 19.1 is a great example of a boot that appeals to a wider audience in foot shape and fit terms but still delivers the speed boot goods, I think puma needed to hit that mark a little closer.

    • @duaneswaby622
      @duaneswaby622 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@BootWizard my question is though, what do you think has been sacrificed to get to that weight? The quotes I've seen from people at Puma suggest they weren't aiming for a specific number, they just wanted to balance weight/comfort/durability.
      Similar to the One I think Puma's biggest problem here is marketing. People are so used to the traditional silos that when they venture outside of those expectations it gets hard to classify the boots. If comfort/speed (I'm assuming that is what they were going for) is going to be a thing they need to put the dollars in to help consumers understand and to build that niche.

    • @BootWizard
      @BootWizard  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @Duane Swaby I've seen the same quotes, they weren't aiming to shave off grams unnessesarily and they weren't aiming for a number just a light boot, honestly, I don't totally believe it, I think they have tried to make the lightest boot they possibly could without getting to the point that durability is an issue. Basically for marketing purposes, I think the Boot might have been better off being a bit heavier. Although they clearly haven't tried to go evospeed SL and make the lightest boot at all costs which is of course positive.
      I agree 100% about the one, they didn't put the time in to help people understand the silo and that didn't help. But here they have 100% committed to the speed boot silo and marketed accordingly, however I think they have missed the mark a little bit. As I say adidas With the x19.1 did a great job of hitting that speed boot market without going down the route of making everything crazy thin, light and tight, here Puma have gone light, and despite the fact I think there would be a better set up by changing the padding it doesn't make it a bad boot and it's not nessesarily a problem, just subverts expectation slightly in a boot so light, however the fairly high volume in the Boot, especially in the toe box, I think is to its detriment and would be even if it wasn't a speed boot (all be it less so), it does need to sit closer to the foot.
      It might sound like I'm bashing the Boot and saying it's not good, but that's not the case, it's a good boot, I am not telling people to stay clear, I think it's just slightly missing the mark in a couple of areas. I am genuinely excited to see what puma do next with this silo as well, a lot of great tech and options here.

    I bought the Future 5.1 and decided on size 10 UK but whilst the midfoot is suprt tight the room in the toe box and length I think is too much. I just have a super wide mid-foot. In your opinion should I get a 9 or 9.5 UK in the Ultra? Also the Future 5.1 I bought was in the MG stud pattern not sure if that affects the wideness of the soleplate or anything compared to FG/AG. I thought I would use the Future on Astro and the Ultra on grass. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

    • @BootWizard
      @BootWizard  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Honetstly my advice is always to buy a boot that fits you in the length and don't compromise on that. So because the ultra isn't as wide as the future it might not be a boot for your foot type. It's not as wide as the future. You should always buy the correct length and if you have width issues make sure you pick a boot or a silo that suits that shape.

      I'm not overly concerned because of the weight, seems sturdy enough, I'm more concerned about the lace loops and exposed upper material.

    • @duaneswaby622

      The upper is woven from carbon fiber and aramid yarns so it should be really durable

    • @BootWizard
      @BootWizard  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@duaneswaby622 the carbon and aramid are woven into another material which might create an issue but as I say on the whole I'm not too concerned, but the lace loops could be an issue and exposed material is always going to be less durable than anything coated, just harder to keep dry and clean. But as you say quality materials in the upper so I'm not exactly expecting it to start tearing or anything like that, certainly sturdy enough and no evospeed SL problems.
