I don't like their other songs apart from fancy. Not my cup of tea. But I did know they were and are talented.
To me, the most compelling thing about the song are the lyrics. Such a mature and vulnerable moment for the group especially mina’s part. She had such a heartbreaking and forlorn verse it really took me by surprise.
JYP created the lyrics based on the conversation of the Group. The Idea of the set has something to do with the Girls in General. Tzuyu portrays a Queen, It is based on how the general public see her. However even though a lot of people praises her for her beauty she still feel so little hence her set is a Queen Doll. Momo, as we all know Momo never shows her bangs for the past 3years after their debut. And we all know that Momo loved Stuffed toys and Dolls. In her set she was like in a museum full of Doll houses. So basically Tzuyu is looking up to Momo's Confidence in showing her Bangs. And Momo letting Tzuyu know that she can shine. Hence they both Feel Special. Mina's set is derived from the world tour. It portrays the Mint candybong in the concert. The lyrics also said something about calling her name and feeling special. This is also derived from when ONCE all band together to cheer for Mina. Jihyo's set is about the media. You can see a lot of TV screens in her set, this is derived from jihyos past exp where the media started a scandal about her which is false and also the spotlight to her during the discovery of her and Kang Daniel dating. Nayeon. We all know nayeon is full of confidence thats why her set is full of mirrors. So basically in the video Jihyo is looking up to nayeon to overcome herself. Hence feel special. Jeongyeon. There is a time that JY made a video on Vlive that basically says she wanted the other members feel happy and she wanted to do something for them. In her set it shows that she feel special whenever she sees her members having fun laughing etc.. Sana set derived from her previous scandal which is from the post she made in her instagram. This event made her feel abandoned. The lyrics also said something about hurtful words Dahyun set. She was basically partnered with sana because in the past, sana is the one that helped dahyun bring her best "Sixteen era". I always watch mv twice at least. The first watch I focus on audiovisual (w/ cc off), the 2nd watch I focus on the lyrics. When I first watch it, I didn't like it but I didn't dislike it also. When I 2nd watch it while reading the cc, trust me, I cried. This song is all about the lyrics.
I just had to drop in and say that I particularly enjoyed the discussion on pre-chorus association at the end of the video. Song structure in general is super interesting to me, and hearing y'all's thoughts on the pre-chorus here was great! I wanted to associate the half-time sections with the pre-chorus due to their consistency and how they helped with the buildup, but it confused me since making that association then made the verses feel suuuuper short (basically verse one was just Chaeyoung's lines and verse two was just Mina's). I think what might be throwing me about that is the members getting much longer lines this time; usually they'd be trading off lines every few seconds, but this time they were singing for long periods, so it feels different. Also, I definitely think you should check out the rest of the album, if you haven't already. It's a different side of TWICE, and I really enjoyed hearing it.

"analytic brain" probably points out why the students pretty much always liked the other song than I do when comparing two songs. So I can kind of understand why Kevin was a once and being able to just enjoy Twice's songs is that Twice songs always are catchy in a melodic way rather than simple repetitive sounds to brain wash the audience. That's how I like a KPOP song to be too, and wish it's not getting out of trend and be overwhelmed by those hiphop-mixed, drill or dubstep type of cool songs.

Am I the only one who gets a little irritated when ppl mention Momoland during rap parts? Twice did it 'first' on Likey and soon after Momoland did it for the first time in their songs, they just stuck to it more imo; but anyway its a great Song and nice reaction!
Pretty sure they're referring to the use of the 808s during the rap part. Likey sticks to the original DnB beat that's present throughout the song when the rap part comes in (but does change for like 2 bars), whereas Momoland (at least from the songs that I know) always has that rap part after the first chorus which uses 808s (or something similar) specifically for that part. If you go back and listen to TWICE's older title tracks, they've always worked their rap parts in very smoothly without "sounding like Momoland" which I find really cool. You do hear TWICE start using that change of instrumental for the rap part in YES or YES (which was released after BBoom BBoom and BAAM) and FANCY (which was released after I'm So Hot) and I feel like they were done very tastefully as it does give you that contrast between the singing and rapping parts, which in turn highlights the rappers in the group. A lot of rap songs as well in the West utilize the 808s for the whole song, so it's a very common sound nowadays. Then again, if you look at who wrote the songs: BBoom Bboom, BAAM, and I'm So Hot were all written by Shinsadong Tiger, Beomi, and Nangi, whereas YES or YES (David Amber and Andy Love), FANCY (Black Eyed Pilseung, and Jeon Goon), and Feel Special (J.Y. Park "The Asiansoul", Ollipop, and Hayley Aitken) were all written by different people, so take that as you will.
