Did you not see iniesta being on the bench in the ucl final vs Arsenal?? The same thing the season after? it's in 07/08 that iniesta was a regular and that is only because Deco was partying instead of training.
As a huge British football fan, this guy broke my heart so many times. First for Porto against Celtic in the 03 Uefa Cup final then 04 when Portugal knocked us out and twice in 2006. First when Barcelona beat Arsenal in the CL final and in the World Cup when Portugal knocked us out on pens… again. Great player. Literally terrifying when he was on the ball.
I know Iniesta and Xavi had more stellar career but in terms of talent and technical ability, Deco surpasses them. We didn't see that because he was shadowed by Ronaldinho; this video makes it clear now.
They say you only realise what you were witnessing when it is no more there. Deco was such an elegant midfielder so smooth with the ball @ his feet.He could kill the opposition with just one touch that’s all it took. He was a genius.

He compensated his lack of explosive power with shooting power….. and yes even scolari said his man of that tournament was rivaldo. But I guess Ronaldo performance despite just recovering from injury overshadowed everything. Btw the addition of Ronaldinho was impeccable
