  • Despite medical advances, tragic cases of sudden cardiac death continue to occur, often without clear explanation. Drawing on insights from his POstmortem Systematic InvesTigation of Sudden Cardiac Death (POST SCD) study, Zian Tseng will explore the fundamental triggers that underlie these critical events, describe the determinants of outcomes, and help us understand the varied trajectories of patients who have experienced sudden cardiac events.
    Speaker
Zian H. Tseng, MD, MAS, a cardiologist and a cardiac electrophysiologist, joined the UCSF faculty in 2004, bringing expertise in risk stratification of patients prone to sudden death and ventricular arrhythmias. A Bay Area native, Zian is an alumnus of the UCSF School of Medicine, where he also received a Master's degree in Advanced Studies in Clinical Research. He went on to complete his clinical training in internal medicine, cardiology, and cardiac electrophysiology at UCSF. He is the principal investigator for numerous longitudinal NIH-funded studies on sudden cardiac death, including the POstmortem Systematic InvesTigation of Sudden Cardiac Death (POST SCD) study, a collaboration with the San Francisco Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Thank you very much for this excellent and very interesting lecture! One question: Isn't it time for the medical community to establish clear indications for the appropriate use of CPR?
