I know you specify in emo culture from what I can see, but I think you should really check out the punk scene in Africa! There’s this punk band called National Wave and they were the first multi-racial punk band in South Africa but more specifically Apartheid South Africa. There’s some documentaries on them but they are a very unrecognized band even in South Africa, coming from a South African. Great vid btw!!
Having pictures of unalived people in arab media is very natural, because we need the documentation of everything, also the hatred against gay people exists in our society’s (arab one’s) but it’s not violent at all iraq itself had it share of historical gay people ( mostly poets ) but because of the US I think people become more violent (not only to gays but everyone sadly)
English news sources were publishing the bodies, which we don't tend to do if they're gorey. Normally they'd blur anything graphic. Maybe that's something that only started within the last decade or so though? I didn't want to make the video too long, but it appears that homophobia didn't exist in Iraq until Britain invaded it and brought their laws with them in the early 1900s?? And then ofc it got much worse after the invasion
@@xhalloweeniexthought you meant Arab ones because it’s the norm here, yeah maybe it was also because of the British, because here in west Asia people tend to reject everything western because of our problems w the west and their hatred against islam, but in iraq it was very extreme. I’m from the arabian gulf and I remember the only thing we did with emos was a couple of episodes to educate them it was all about satanism and coping the West and being away from Islam and family and more of this BS ( also dressing like emo in school is against school laws in KSA until today 😭 )
Thing is, I feel like this will start to happen in America soon ( on a lower scale of course) especially with a lot of conservatives coming into power and people becoming more and more hateful
