11:30 assembled by Saab-Valmet, here in Finland 🇫🇮. This era 900 is from my childhood, we had a lot of these here in Finland, but now they are rare to see. And the convertibles were almost all exported to the US where the weather is a bit more appropriate 😅. It’s such a unique design with the huge hood and all the quirks/saabisms. We didn’t have the airbag since it was not mandatory yet in those years.
The Saab 900 turbo was the first official "yuppie car" back in the day. IMHO That is a great example of a real classic for reasonable money. Thanks for the video since I didn't know about some of those mechanical quirks on how the drivetrain was designed. Truly a unique car.
I am surprised this Saab is still for sale its in amazing condition, even here in Northern Europe they are rare and the ones that do exist are rotten on the floor pans and arches due to the vast quantities of rock salt we have on our roads ,if I could afford the shipping and tax for this car I would consider purchasing and having shipped back the homeland. You guys in the states need to snap this one up its a classic that is appreciating in value all the time. These sell in Europe for twice this price and very few are in original condition like this one, you are very lucky and I think its being under sold supply and demand is what makes this a bargain .
I grew up in New Hampshire and used to drive by Gary Blake Saab all the time since I lived in the Exeter area and would go to Portsmouth frequently Now I live in Boston
Great driver car, Bob, thanks for the review! I've always had a bit of a soft spot for the 900 convertible after I met a girl in a bar whose parents had bought her one. We drove it nearly all night with the top down. What a night - really miss that gal. :)
I remember my buddies family having one. He was in a bad accident and the police said the car saved his life. Something about the engine dropping down to protect the occupants (which was a new thing back then).
Hello from Sydney Australia 🇦🇺 is that A holden Commodore parked in your garage ? Great to see it ! 😮also love the cars you got from the auction, especially the Alpha Romeo
That sticker on the door is done because the speedometer was replaced which meant it went to 0 miles. You need to add that 12,000+ miles written on the sticker to the shown milage. I used to have to do that when I was a Tech before the electronically stored milage.
@@euroasianbob9268The reference kind of stuck for the wrong reasons I think. I've had several 900s, dash was sensibly laid out and were easy to drive. Only odd thing was where the key went and the gear lock out which mechanics often forced as they didn't know about it. It was a doddle to change the clutch as well. I miss the brand.
@@mlann2333 in Finland we called these things ’saabisms’. Like the power window buttons in middle of the seats, the giant hood, the curved windshield with the fully exposed wipers (which was easy to clean of snow) and the cabin air intake on top of the hood was pretty unique. We had several 900s and 99s in my childhood, I now have nostagia for them I didn’t fully appreciate at the time. The last one was a turbo which was the first car I was old enough to drive. Those days are long gone and most of the 900s have rusted away.

Saab is a an aerospace company that went from wings to wheels. Really neat story. Swedes are really something. Very iconic car.

I was a child when these cars were around. It was a pleasure to see one, especially the convertible.
Joo… mulla olí samanlainen taalla Australiassa…terveiset sinne Suomeen!
@@kallekas8551 Siellä on useammin avoautokeli! 👍
Had this exact car for years. No doubt my favorite car ever. That includes Mercedes, BMW etc. Nothing handled like that Saab.

E21 bmw perhaps as well
Memories! Our wedding car was like one(1991) but yellow one. Great first kilomiters for marriage! Thanks Bob!

$8995 as per Bobs Website. Better move fast😅. What a joy! Thanks Bob. Great video.
This is a wonderful example for a 100K mile car! Great car Bob & thanks for sharing.
Great driver car, Bob, thanks for the review!

What a night - really miss that gal. :)
My parents had a 1986 red 900s sedan it was quirky but safe and I miss it to this day
I’ve driven Saabs for 40 years. They are wonderful cars.
I saw this car back in the summer at the local Saab dealer in Wichita getting serviced and glad to see that it looks a lot better now!
Local saab dealer? This isn't 2010
@@wconstructionco It is a defunct Saab dealer that is a now used car lot/Service center
This car is such a little jewel! I actually was the first one to drive it & enjoyed it immensely 🎉
You are the one who picked it up!
Love that it's the 5 speed!!
These cars were so neat. Merkur XR4Ti, Taurus SHO, etc.
I so remember those.
Loved mine. Did tune it quite a bit.

I remember these cars well. I lusted after getting one but it never worked out. BTW, intro music by Vince Guaraldi? Sure sounds like it!
I love these cars.

That car was sold new at the dealership I worked at in college!
I see it comes from New Hampshire. The American epicenter for Saab ownership before they all started buying Subarus.
Great project for someone under 10k budget :D
Definitely a New England, winterized example, especially for only 100k miles. Hard to find, though.
As I understand it, you really have to make sure the DC and DCC are truly on separate circuits.
I miss my old (real) Saabs!
purw beauty❤
COOL !!!
Yes, but they are not made anymore. Can you still get parts and what are the repair costs?
Huge support network for these cars. No problem.
@@euroasianbob9268 I just picked up and 89 900 ragtop. So far so good in the event I need parts down the road. Where do you suggest I look? Ty

Hello Bob. Your website is down? Or is it from my conection?
Working for me.

Beautiful, iconic Swedish goodness. Made before General Motors came in and destroyed the brand.
do you have top cover? Hood has been repainted
No top cover. I stated hood repainted in video.
I got to ask my wife.
Get a Modern Classic Saab shifter and that vagueness will disappear.
naw, it's 2 stroke ancestor was way quirkier...
Honest
Why does everyone have to use the word "quirky" when it comes to a 900..
Because they are the epitome of quirky? Lol.

Parts are basically unobtainable! I'd run away from it and never look back.
