Yes, totally underrated. I think a lot of the references to regional folklore and blues mythology were missed by people who aren't from the South. But interestingly some of those elements were also in Oh Brother, Where Art Thou, with Chris Thomas King's character.

Yeah but it's not really like that in Mississippi. Everybody is welcoming. Nothing like the movie. How was it a blues club in Mississippi and they literally let a white guy from Sweden come on stage and play as harmonica. One of the band members tried to hand me his guitar but I couldn't play it because I was a One of the band members tried to hand me his guitar but I couldn't play it because I was a One of the band members tried to hand me his guitar but I couldn't play it because I'm a lefty. Blacks and whites get along very good down there. However, I guess they had to do it for the drama of the movie.

Blind Dog Fulton! The funny thing is that the entire group of the guys on stage in the band immediately 'kick in' and start grooving 2 seconds after Willie Brown and Lightning Boy start in with the song. I just wish they would have had the full version of the song in the movie - the one that's on the original soundtrack.

The thing about the Blues is it's been played so much it has become almost sort of ossified, institutionalized and gentrified to the point where it has become stale. Sad but true. It happens to all art forms and it is the enemy of art. Now THIS performance. This is something old that is fresh Joe Seneca and this band behind him are good. They're not ossified. They're roots. Fresh roots that are pumping down into good, fertile, black bottom soil. Getting some good fresh water and bursting up from the soil into the hot, humid, sweltering air of a summer morning with cicada bugs buzzing and blue jays sqwauking. Yep. This is good.

" the blues ain't nothing but a good man feeling bad" when I look at my soul it's too dark to see but I wish I could be good eventually. It's a mountain with a top no one can see but The King.
