  • In this episode, I'm Car Crafter Bob, not Cobbler Bob! Although it's a detour from my usual shoe and sartorial content, I'm documenting the buildup of a 1971 Oldsmobile Cultass S I just purchased. This episode documents buying the car & bringing it home, and some initial repairs to bring it to a good driving condition. Follow along in this fist episode as I purchase the car, hear it's history, bring it home, and get it road worthy.

I'm not really into cars so I have no idea what you're talking about 80% of the time, yet I still enjoyed the video. You're very eloquent Bob, and I love your passion towards finer things in life.

You haven't lost me. I have always liked your shoe videos and during them you have often talked about how you used to work on cars. Now you are back to that, awesome! You are a smart man, an engineer like me, so I think I will enjoy your restoration journey with this vintage American car. I look forward to your future videos.

OK Bob, Now you have my attention. The Cutlass is a true muscle car and a great platform to work with. With fantastic parts availability there will be a lot you can do to Restomod it and have a great street car.
    Cheers!

@@CobblerBobeah, it would’ve been great to find one similar to your previous Cutlass, but that 70s body style just has the classic muscle car look.
It already looks great with the preliminary work you’ve put in. And I’m so excited to see that baby’s stance when you get the new wheels put on.
And for what it’s worth, I love bench seats.

You have gained a new subscriber! I have a 1970 Cutlass and need all the pointers I can get. I got it in Akron last winter a few weeks before Xmas and towed it back to Columbus and dropped it off to my body shop to take care of the exterior now I need to work on the interior, under the hood and under the car. It is pretty much original.

Thanks for sharing this video with me, I totally enjoyed seeing it and your olds cutlass which I owned at least 25 cutlasses when I was younger and I loved all of them, they were very powerful machines and had a awesome body style and very reliable and my first old's 71 cutlass that I bought from a good friend in highschool cost me $1000 and looked very much like the one that u have in the video and mine didn't have any rugs in it and the front fenders were primered but the rest of the car was without any issues, so I began to work on it and added a lot of goodies and I took it to the Atco speedway in Atco new jersey and it ran low 12's in the 1/4 mile and I was very impressed with that so I was hooked on cuttlass's ever since then, enjoy your build and have a blast from the past 💪😎👍❤️

@@CobblerBob I was crazy about them ever since I owned my first and my absolute favorite one, and when I saw one that I really like and I would ask the owner if they were interested in selling it and back then they didn't cost as much as they do now , those were the best days of my life ❤️😎👍

Me, personally would have never bought a purple cutlass with a sunroof...but you are a very passionate and driven individual. I applaud your skill set, and perseverance! You jump in with both feet! I have a 71 Cutlass as well, but would never have the confidence to tackle the things you have. Really enjoy your videos on the cutlass.

I love your attention to detail of the machine part of the car than the physical design. The machine i.e motor and transmission. These two parts plus the rear gear need lots of attention for the vehicle to perform at its design or maxoutput. Ahhh I'm so drunk but really fascinated by your attention to detail. I just sold 9/3/23 my second Cutlass 1987 and looking forward to purchasing a 1971 Oldsmobile "S"

I have basically the same car. I have a couple 72s. Anyway those wheel wells I sanded down like you did then I used Por 15 on them and they came out awesome. Been on there for 3 yrs still look amazing. I used Por 15 on pretty much everything that I wanted black. I like it because it goes such a long way. Has a nice clear shine to it as well. Anyway a metal rust inhibitor used on plastic wheel wells who knew ?

My mom had one of those Brown with a White Vinyl top automatic. I found it YEARS later in a junk yard. Dismantled it engine transmission interior out...down to frame...ect. The body had several holes torn in it. Not a lot of rust. Holes in the trunk and floorboards allowed the interior to rot however. Vinyl was torn and roof rusted through in one spot.T he engine was still running. So body was off the frame and stripped and acid bathed and panels WELDED repairs NOT brazed and straightened the front bumper right side and had it rechromed. Had the engine rebuilt. Car was in pieces but ready for paint ,ect. A guy saw the project and asked how much. I said I had 20 g s into it and wanted 30 gs if at all. He said what about 25 RIGHT NOW, I knew at that moment no more screwing around. This guy had the CASH in his hand and a SERVICE flat bed waiting in front of the mechanics office so I knew this was a SERIOUS offer. I said SOLD on condition you send me photos and a ride. Sent me the photo s but the car is in Kansas City Kansas, so I haven t had a ride.

I just bought a 72 Cutlass Supreme, Not alot of people know but the C Pillar and quarter panels are different on the Supreme than they are on the Base Cutlass, 442 and Hurst Edition. I'm going to Restomod mine as well but I'm building a 80's Hot Rod out of mine. I'm painting it Black Rose, the Deep Dark Purple that GM used on the mid-late 80's Camaros, Vettes, S-10s and other cars like the G body Regals and Cutlass's. I'm going to do the interior in Grey, the front drivers seat and the Dash Pad needs to be redone I might as well have the passenger seat redone and dye the back seat, Door Panels plastic, the headliner is already brand new so I'm going to mess with it. The Engine and Trans running great, rebuilt 25k ish ago so I'm just going to do a rattle can Rebuild on them and then I;'m going to throw some Enkie 72 Wheels on it, those are the repop wheels on the mid 80's Firebirds.
