    Nice to see a new video from you Kevin. A dandy little project. I have some suitable scraps lying around and it will be great to put them to use, I think I can actually do those eyes too...still working on them.

    Hello. Kevin, could you spend more time on how you paint, this is also an important experience for me and others. Cut one thing, but decorate it like you, is also a talent

    • @KevinCoates98
      @KevinCoates98  ปีที่แล้ว

      I will put effort into painting one soon. I don’t have much spare time right now. Very busy with work

    This is a fun carve, easy to follow. I am using Yellow Pine- probably a little grainier than White. But I can go out in the woods and find it. First try not a good one- I'll try again. 🖕Bass wood can be a bit hard sometimes.

      It is pretty easy to whittle. Never tried yellow pine

      @@KevinCoates98 you're right, Basswood in easy, just got some to use with chisels for bigger carvings as I guess not as soft as others. Yellow pine, or Jeffrey pine grows up here in California near my place. Sugar pine is good too. Depends on the tree as well. How soft it is.

    You get great results from (white pine ? )
    I had some basswood and wasn’t as good as I thought compared to pine.
    All the best !

    • @KevinCoates98
      @KevinCoates98  ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably 80-90% of the pine I use is good. I do run into some not so good stuff sometimes. Cheers

    Awesome little carving! I have a question? When you take your knife to the strop, how many strokes do you usually do? I was just wondering because I'm trying to get better at my sharpening skills.

    • @KevinCoates98
      @KevinCoates98  ปีที่แล้ว

      A couple dozen stops per side

    Great carving Kevin. I always enjoy watching you carve such wonderful figures. It always gives me inspiration to help in my carving time. I wish I could create ideas for carvings as you do and then actually carve them as you do. Hopefully with time and practice I will be able to achieve that level. I hope you are doing well. Were you able to get some pine at HH? Thanks.
