I totally enjoyed your video! I was a silversmith in the 70's. I have dabbled with textiles and painting. I recently purchased a wheel and a kiln. I have always been drawn to making jewelry and am excited about pursuing a new journey. It has been a lifelong dream of mine to have a kiln. You are exactly the kind of artist that I have always wanted to be. I love your vibe and your style of jewelry making. I will be tuning in more in hopes of learning and perfecting the art of clay and jewelry making. Thank you for sharing your talent, knowledge and skill with us. You have definitely inspired me!

Clear shower caps are great to keep scraps and ball in.

Instead of sanding....just wait until leather hard or a bit less and with a wet sponge wipe clean the edges. No health issues and way much easier and faster...plus NO mess!

I like to glaze the sides all around so that the pieces look better finished.

    Hi Robin,
Have been a silversmith for about 20 yrs and now about to start on my Ceramic journey. Have a small Paragon Kiln (Express E9), (8.5”W x 4.5”H x 9”D). I purchased quite a few years ago for enamelling copper jewellery, but due to family illness never used it. I need to research using it for porcelain jewellery pieces. Found your site so helpful.
I would agree in the comment re not sanding the dried clay but waiting till nearly leather hard and use sponge to smooth the clay. From my research the silica in all pottery clay can cause health problems, different clays have different amounts of silica; Im about to find out more tomorrow, Monday. Bev.J / N.Z.

At each end you can add a bead so that cord doesn't slide off.

Thank you. Picked up one or two tips. I wish I knew what to do to stop the warp factor though

Easy, girl. Just place a sheet of newspaper on both sides and on top place something flat and heavy (don't squish it 😄).

Flick the clogged sandpaper over a wide bowl of water to keep the clay dust out of the air.

If using porcelain use highest temp. If reg clay use maybe 20 to 40 degrees less.

The Blue example - the scraped surface is left unglazed? It’s just the porcelain unglazed?

Do you reglaze with clear glaze on top?
