Now had the nest/hive/pit been a bit more flesh or blood colored I think it would've fit well with Diablo's aesthetic. Maybe even change the spider like enemies into something more demonic. @@JJ-Streaming the otherwordly dread was thick in this game. the pacing of walking around quite slowly and the thin balance against being completely overwhelmed with enemies actually made it play a little bit like more modern horror genre games
I actually loved Hellfire. Still own it too. I thought some of the new areas were cool but I never felt like it added enough new items. Poor Theo. I'll never forget that quest.
Why I watched this, I may never know... But I do know the way you narrate your videos with the games story is incredibly entertaining. I only hope that you can continue being as thorough with Diablo II resurrected. I have a question...I notice you seem to almost always wear the medium armor for the Warrior in pretty much all your Diablo 1 videos. Do you just prefer the aesthetic/look of that armor? I personally always liked the look of it. When D1 was 1st released and I spent hours and hours and even more hours playing it, I started to split the 3 main classes into even more classes based on their armor type. When the Warrior wore the heavy plate he was a Paladin. When he wore the medium armor he was a Cleric. The base look of the Warrior was a Barbarian. I would also limit each class to certain weapon types. Paladins would use Swords, Clerics would use maces/hammers and Barbarians would use axes. I was a complete nerd, but I loved the game so much...I wanted it to be deeper than it was, so I created my own ways of playing to increase its replay value (for me).
Wow, I think that thing with subclassing each class is cool and warrior subclasses you described makes really sense. Now I'm curious - how did you split (if you did) sorcerer and rogue classes?
Your not alone lol I started playing diablo when i was 7. I had new backstories and motives for my characters every restart i think. I seemed to usually lean towards the cleric warrior you mentioned though, cause how it looks cool even when hes just strollin through town wit his helmet under his arm.
This armor really looks the best. I personally didn't like anything that Diablo 2 had to offer and was missing the characters from the first one a lot.
Hi, While I agree that the aesthetics don't mesh with the style of Diablo, I like that it was attempted. What was explored here was interesting. I'm also curious about what they were aiming for, seeing as Na-Krul had no love for Diablo. "Out of my way wretched human. Retribution calls to he who you call Diablo". Were they enemies I'm guessing? Honestly, I don't think I would mind if this was explored again in the future maybe? Perhaps we may see something that's neither from Heaven nor Hell, and doesn't care about the eternal conflict.
I was a child and could not afford diablo, what I recall well was "its forbidden in the demo" message, when I reached the last accessible level :D. Later played it through. It was unique experience, unrepeated afterwards. Diablo 2 was not bad and from todays perspective more advanced (not regarding graphics), but the charm of Diablo 1 on me as child is unbeatable...
Been binge watching all your Diablo videos, was wondering if you thought of doing the same for Path of Exile, as many times as I've played through PoE I have no idea what's going on in the story haha
Actually, I think that lovecraftian theme is fitting perfectly in Diablo, especially when its made as a small sidequest. Who knows: if Blizzard would make this canon, we may now have a third race who to fight with demons.

I think that the hive is a great addition to the Diablo universe a more deep and perverse level of hell full of filth and pure vile evil reserved only for the most wicked and disgusting creatures of the burning hell's, a place where even demons fear to tread. The defiler kind of reminds me of the violator from spawn and the hive kind of reminds me a little bit of certain versions of hell in spawn which i think goes great with Diablo.
Dude, you are really good at this. I hope you play more of the old classics like Gothic and Hexen 2 and make similar movie-like videos. Sometimes an old game is great but replaying it is too much just for the story.
A little nitpick I mentioned in the original video of the Teddy bear quest. There is an extra reward for adding the little girl. When you kill the Hork Boss you get an amulet, and with the girl you also get an extra amulet as a reward for the Teddy. So basically this addon doubled the reward for this quest. Girl was cut because David Brevik wanted the Little Girl quest removed from the game, as he felt it clashed with Diablo's dark tone.
Great video. Always checked out the copy that was at my local Tower Records because no one seemed to be interested in it and I was a huge Diablo fan but never bought it as it wasn't made by Blizzard North. Cool to see, although it would have been cool to show some of the other character classes (I think the monk at least was introduced).
i remember buying Hellfire when it came out but as I never looked at gaming magazines I never knew about hidden levels or even the Farmers Quest until today. Guess I'll have to build a Windows PC and check things out again if I can find the CD and it still works
I think this idea was cut content from Diablo 1 that got into Diablo 2 because there was a deadline to release the game to make game company income and hard choices had to made to get the story to make sense
I dont understand how you dont like the enemies of Hellfire? The cathedral levels are all demonic and made of strictly hell-based enemies, or adaptations of animals by demons. The new levels are based on corruptive otherworldly elements. its both fitting narratively as to why Na-Krul and Diablo would clash and fight for dominance, as well as not doing the "actually hell had another big bad we just didnt mention" thing that so many games are guilty of. I actually really appreciate the direction they went as good storytelling without sacrificing the original for the sake of more gameplay. Also btw, the stone is named antyrael, which still fits. Its named for Tyrael but you wouldnt just call the stone "Tyrael" as well. Its probably meant as "A-tyrael" to be "of Tyrael" but that word doesnt work as well so it became antyrael. Sierra did a good job with writing in many facets imo.
I think it's funny how everyone in town tells you to forget about the map. It's as if the main cast is telling you to just not worry about the new content. Even the Hellfire Expansion doesn't want you to play it.
It’s crazy how you did this in that armor, idk what shields and helm you have, but at level 22 with an armor rate of 90+ and an upgraded-via-oil Grims Edge with a tower shield, I found this DLC harder then the levels 12-15 of the base game
I grew up playing D1+HF. The Hive freaked me out so much I needed my pops to sit next to me while I played. Crypt was also creepy and awesome. Stories aren't the same these days it feels like. I stopped at D3, I might try D4. Your narration and story-telling is an absolute gift to the world.
Honestly I think the Diablo franchise could use a bit more of a Lovecraftian element to them to break up the pace a bit with all the demons and angels. Don't get me wrong, I love Diablo, but I love Lovecraft even more and I think some elements of his Cthulhu mythos could fit very snuggly inside the Diablo 2 universe!
I know that this is a late response but the reason that diablo doesn't have lovecraft type stuff is pretty much due to the Sin War. There isn't much reason to add cosmic entities when you already have them. That and considering how bad Sierra executed this "expansion" it put off any idea for good it seemed
Hellfire is better than the original Diablo 1, especially in that its major more -attractive monster forms (including Grave Digger, Skullwing or Bone demon, Biclops, and Satyr Lord) are much more appealing than most monster forms in the Diablo original. Mainly due to this superiority along with generally good gameplay, Hellfire is very enjoyable treasure.
Any chance you can do a small documentary about Diablo 1 and Hellfire? Why it doesn’t have multiplayer? Monk’s story arc? Etc. I try to do a search on TH-cam about Hellfire without any results.
It was kind of a bastardized add on not done by Blizzard north the main creators of the original game. They were very unhappy with it thus when the Diablo 2 expansion came out they made sure it was much better than this.
If we pay a real attention, everything Hellfire did was adding some lovecraft elements with a few relevant abandoned quests ideas to create an irrelevant, but still a nice try, game content. Let's be honest, all the Hive stuff seems to be prepared to the cut quest "The Infestation of the Worms" and there's a lot of insect monsters here, then, they recicled a lot of quotes from "Lost Treasure" and "The Map of the Stars" to make some narrative around the map used between the transition of Hive to Cript, I guess only Gillian have a original text made for hellfire only, I don't remember to have listened this anywhere else, but my memory isn't that good so I wouldn't be surprised if it was somewhere in OG Diablo data. Then, entering the Cript, the warrior says "This is a place of greater power" that would fit perfect to the cut quest "Horazon's Sanctum" because this place also holds journal texts about some uncontrollable creature that some powerful mage couldn't deal with and trapped it. And Celia's Theo quest kind remembers me Gillian's quest Andariel, Maiden of Anguish, I know this is the most distant and weird comparison, but I compare them for two reasons: both are about going somewhere not inside the Church of Tristram, to rescue someone, in Gillian's quest would be Dica's sons Inaius and Roof, maybe any other man lured by the Andariel as well, in Celia's quest is just Theo, that make us initially think it's about a male friend, but we realize later that Theo is just a (disappointing) Teddy Bear. I guess if Sierra had more support of Blizzard, they would have tried to restore all the cut quests but not the Map of The Stars, because, as David Bravik said it "changed the way you played Diablo", but Blizzard probably was too busy because of Diablo 2 development, so they just let some third party do the rushed work and granted to them the minimum support as possible to focus the main work to the next Diablo game, so they worried only to release Hellfire before D2 just to use this expansion to earn a bit more extra money. Everything you read above is just my speculation and I'm NOT telling that is what really happened, I'm not here to spread false information, I don't have any proof to support my opinion. If you agree with my points above let me know in your answer. Feel free to share your opinion about Sierra's ambition and Hellfire Expansion. 👇🏻
Hellfire wasnt that bad, it was corny and weird but not bad, it added 3 new classes more quests and spells, and lots of unique items, honestly its a must if your nostalgic about diablo.
Funny I was going to say how I can't help but picture Colonel Campbell narrating the journals and whatnot to Snake via the codec... only to realize it's actually the same voice actor.
30:18 Imagine if you freed a demon and he gave you Aerosmith tickets as a reward. Just so happened to be carrying specifically Aerosmith tickets. Guess Na-Krul really liked Revolution X.

David, Max and Erich were working on D2. They didn't even want to do an expansion for Diablo one. They were moving on to something greater and far superior (in their minds). But blizzard wanted to push the boys to expand on their brainchild to get more out of it. More money and keep it alive longer. I find that disrespectful to the creators to try to push them to morph their masterpiece into something that writes paychecks.
The amulet, does it give over 10,000 gold per slot or JUST 10,000, curious because 10k isn't over 10k. Good videos but too many recycled clips, gotta fast forward and I'm missing stuff sometimes
Hellfire was fun, but I felt the insect-cave was... unnecessary? It didn't add anything to the story. Hell, there wasn't even a connection between the cave and the later dungeon. And like others have said, the style clashes far too much with the original game. It feels more like a mod than an official expansion.
I honestly wish the Hellfire expansion was cannon in some way, i also wish the Beelzebub mod would have added the content in it for fun. I know its not cannon but more content in these old games is always a good time, plus the addition of the monk model would have been welcomed.

It’s called an opinion, I guess you would understand? Oh how time flys
I think it's funny how everyone in town tells you to forget about the map. It's as if the main cast is telling you to just not worry about the new content. Even the Hellfire Expansion doesn't want you to play it.
Ironic, seeing how Hellfire is a better sequel than Diablo 3.
@@voilvelev6775 Yep which means hellfire is mid
cows have become a running theme in Diablo over time.
Honestly, the whole " Aerosmith tickets" dialogue is creepiest thing ive encountered in any diablo game... its so out of nowhere and unexpected..
Great video and it seems like an interesting expansion. Unfortunately it is stuttering like crazy on my modern computer.
did you get the version on gog? They tweak stuff to run properly on newer systems
@@marionamewontwork2681 Yes, I have the gog version. Got it working.. My newer pc doesn't like older games.
I watch your diablo 1 videos like once per week... I need more
Hellfire is better than the original Diablo 1, especially in that its major more -attractive monster forms (including Grave Digger, Skullwing or Bone demon, Biclops, and Satyr Lord) are much more appealing than most monster forms in the Diablo original. Mainly due to this superiority along with generally good gameplay, Hellfire is very enjoyable treasure.
The comment about the thicc succubus made me spit my coffee. That was hilarious.
Any chance you can do a small documentary about Diablo 1 and Hellfire? Why it doesn’t have multiplayer? Monk’s story arc? Etc. I try to do a search on TH-cam about Hellfire without any results.
@Dark LORE Dash - - who is the voice actor of all these dark texts ?? I want to know !!
Wow, hellfire sucks... I did not remember it being this weird; it looks more like some fanfic than an expansion made by professionals.
It was kind of a bastardized add on not done by Blizzard north the main creators of the original game. They were very unhappy with it thus when the Diablo 2 expansion came out they made sure it was much better than this.
Curious if you pull informstion from the original manuals, they were pretty detail in lore.
Original manuals & wiki! Love D1s manual
what else do you lend your voice to. i know ive listened to you many times. i just cant remember where lol
Used to own the dash star channel. Been on Curse Entertainment. Looper, Grunge. SVG
35:50 my favorite quote ever
Hellfire wasnt that bad, it was corny and weird but not bad, it added 3 new classes more quests and spells, and lots of unique items, honestly its a must if your nostalgic about diablo.
Diablo 1 and hellfire had the best voice actors !
Funny I was going to say how I can't help but picture Colonel Campbell narrating the journals and whatnot to Snake via the codec... only to realize it's actually the same voice actor.
Tis a small world in Voice Over! Still laugh thinking of him as the Japanese Sensei in Tenchu 2
Never noticed when I was a kid but the narrator from diablo is quite obviously colonel Campbell from metal gear solid
Should named the Bovine Plate Armour into "Moovine Plate" Armour.
giggles.
30:18 Imagine if you freed a demon and he gave you Aerosmith tickets as a reward. Just so happened to be carrying specifically Aerosmith tickets.
Guess Na-Krul really liked Revolution X.
MAN!!! I thought them grave diggers almost had you! 😂 Love your stuff. I just can't stop listening to you.
I'm amazed how single player oriented D1 and other games back then were
this is niche but any fans of Diabolical Masquerade getting their minds blown a little here? 10:16 is sampled in Dreadventurouz and 28:30 is sampled in The Eerie Obzidian Circuz. had no idea that album was just a D1 Expansion tribute lol
love your videos, super cozy
I never knew diablo had an expansion. I barely played it to be honest though, it came with diablo 2 battle chest when I bought it as a kid.
Man this music takes me back!!
This farmer doesn't look medieval at all with overalls and straw hat... WAIT, A GUY IN A COW SUIT? WHAT?
"Oh sweet Akkarat's aint!" Best line in 2021 muttered only by the proud ones who notice that D2 Resurrected's Amazon looks like a man.
I Really like it! ty for do it.
You know what would suck:
Being really excited about the expansion to D1, then finding out you have trypophobia.
Thank you for this prime sunday content.
After watching these videos I really feel like going back to play trough it again.
This was fantastic!
Thank you kindly 😊
I honestly wish the Hellfire expansion was cannon in some way, i also wish the Beelzebub mod would have added the content in it for fun. I know its not cannon but more content in these old games is always a good time, plus the addition of the monk model would have been welcomed.
21:25 damn made me feel sad. Old Blizzard was such a great studio. Fucking epic quest behind a wonderful functionality like that. Even added lore and such. Modern blizzard would just charge you 30 dollars for it
