Thank you @2GuysTek for doing this video. Answered a lot of questions I had. Video is well done - as with all of your videos on your TH-cam channel! Thanks!

So if you aren't really creating an account through that sign up link... Can we just create and account with a gmail and grab the iso? Sounds like I'll be checking this tonight since the person who is currently pestering my work email hasn't gotten back to me about using my personal email. I did make the system mad and now I get to click on captcha with that email address, you'd think this would come up in a log and someone would get back to me. Looks like my lab is about minimum spec, but might be enough to get a feel for this system.

I downloaded Nutanix CE and never got a call or e-mail. I also never got CE to actually boot even though I did the install correctly.

    Nice video!
Not sure if this also works for the CE version of Nutanix, but if you install Nutanix (non CE) you use Foundation with a GUI and point it at the IPMI's to do the installation.
You can also use Terraform to talk to Foundation to rollout the cluster.
I've done this for the company I'm working now and makes it very easy.

Unfortunately, with the CE version, you have to use the Phoenix installer, as you saw in the video. I understand that production Nutanix has a much nicer user experience for installation.

I am trying to install CE on a 3 HP mini PC(6700/32GB+128/512/1024SSD). But the CVM can only run for a few min and will pause.
I don't know what happened. I already reinstalled and google a few times already.

Also one of the big reason it isnt homelab friendly is it has lots of issues with non enterprise hardware. I use is everyday in my corp job but i could never get it to run stable in my home lab on the mini pc's. Only retired enterprise hardware like you had in the video

As part of a project to determine where we will be moving to in a few years after the VMware licenses expire we have a few test clusters to figure out what hypervisor fits us best.
We found the lack of ability to use external storage and just the STUPID amount of resources Nutanix would consume just made it not an option.
I'm very familiar with Proxmox, and apart from missing DRS, it's perfect for our needs.
Then there's XCP-NG. It's almost there... I think once the XO 7 interface is released it'll be a huge improvement. Currently it's just too clunky in the GUI department to be used without a lot of seat time.
Overall it seems like Proxmox is the overall winner with it's low resource use, thought out UI, and HUGE customization factor. Practically run anything and everything you want without a hitch.

I didn't get the option for single node cluster creation during drive allocation (HCD) and IP address. version i am currently attempting to install is - phoenix.x86_64-fnd_5.6.1_patch-aos_6.8.1_ga

I just went through installing this software two days ago. I agree the installation was less than friendly, and confusing when you try to load ESXI as the hypervisor. I know the site says it's not supported, but if that is the case then don't have it as an option. I got as far as getting ESXI loaded, but the CVMs crashed and wouldn't load. Allowing this option to install easier would be a plus to Nutanix as it allows admins to test "move" at home or some extra gear in prep for working on production. Also in my case, the CVMs decided to install at 48GB vs 20, 32, or 40GB of ram. In the GUI there is no way to decrease this huge resource reservation.
I want to love this software as it can be great, but it feels like it is half a step away from being a true solution at many levels from home labbers to corp environments.
As a question has anyone gotten the Intel I226 nics to work on this software?

The storage requirements might rule out my current extra lab computers, it's kind of a mess compared to VMware and XCP-NG. Maybe Proxmox will be my next test.

Thats the thing with CVMs they are resource hungry ... I took few decommed G6s, with 64 Core, 120TB HDD, 1.5TB RAM, and am running Proxmox on it :)

Nutanix is deploying the Hypervisor, Managment Plane, and Hyperconverged storage platform all at the same time. I'd compare it to deploying ESXi, vCenter, and a vSAN cluster. Or Deploying Proxmox, then a CEPH cluster for the storage platform, so I recommend folks to expect that it will take slightly longer.

Man the sales stactics are absurd and out of touch to almost everyone, I'll happily accept an email asking if we want to touch base after getting the download, and seeing if we want to setup a meeting after a bit longer but just turning it straight into a call is insane, but way too common and just frustrates all involved. I do think all that said, I might get it to at least try it out, know a handful of businesses using it so wouldn't be bad to get my hands on.
