Yupe that was a bear. Marine is often associated with bears because of a pun on her name (Houshou KUMArine). No idea where this originated but she has a couple bear motifs now and even some plushie of her in bear outfits. Also, she's lore wise a cosplayer so it makes sense she has a lot of different and various outfits.
I think it originated years ago from her being an absolute fan of Rilakuma, a character/brand, featuring a relax, chill chibi Bear (relax+kuma). Maririn often said she has _all_ of rilakuma's merchandise, and Even talents visiting her house commented in her Rilakuma cups, plates, tissues, wet wipes etc. Then, much as how Subaru eventually became a duck, Maririn started including Bears in her IP. (My favourite is chibi Marin with the Bear outfit, Kumarin)
@@YawnMK1 ahhh that would make a lot of sense. I knew she was a fan of some mascot but I had forgotten which (Japan has way, waayyyy too many of them xD)
the song melody and the MV was a nod to the 80s or 90s era, phantom thief manga/anime/character like Lupin, Cat Eyes, Kaito Kidd etc were so popular back then. so yeah if you google phantom thief you’ll understand the mask
Hi Bagel! another amazing reaction! next you should check out Stellar Stellar by Hoshimachi Suisei, Doggy God's Street by Inugami Korone & What an Amazing Swing by Tsunomaki Watame! all three are incredible songs & three of my favorites in Hololive!
My first reaction was that the mask & character in the video had some Tuxedo Mask inspiration. She also seems to do an outfit change with shadowy silhouettes similar to Sailor Moon, which Tuxedo Mask is from. I don't know for sure, but that's what it teminded me of.
Fun fact, this is entirely 3D animated. Didnt look like it did it? This studio has worked with hololive many times before and they create some amazing 3D effects that most anime cant do.
Marine went full retro anime for this and I'm here for it Oh and if you're in the mood for cool songs, I'd recommend Calli's Mera Mera (original song) and Bae's Los! Los! Los! (cover)
as a bit of context, this song is very much inspired by old Tokusatsu (special effect) shows, most famous example is super sentai which was adapted into Power rangers. Many of those shows featured a female heroines as the main characters especially in the timeframe betwen 70s and 90s. Combined with the in japan always popular Cat Burglar/phantom thief theme, this is basically an opening to one of those shows which never actually existed. She also stole the gimmick of Cutie Honey
Her first outfit is from Cat's Eye anime, and the second is based on either La Seine no Hoshi or La Belle Fille Masquée Poitrine. I'm not sure about the belly dancer outfit. The bear is either Tuxedo Mask or the villains from Hardgumi or Maringumi I like the stupid pie joke at 2:14 Apple pie, maajyanpai (mahjong tiles), papaya, pi, cream pie, oppai
Your model design could be an awesome cosplay too. The details you have are really well done! It is cool and charming listening to your thoughts on different songs and the outfits Marine has in this song. Marine goes way beyond what is normal for a music video. Thank you for taking time reacting to Hololive songs!
So apparently paipai is a take on oppai which means boobs so it's a boob mask? I mean if this was a supposed to reference Tuxedo mask because he wears a mask and a tux then it is not much of a stretch to say she is boob mask because she wears a mask and she is always shaking her boobs at people lol
Something else that is just slightly different that i think you should check out is the 2024 hololive shuffle melody. Just know that if you watch it all the girls start in their own outfits then change into another hololive girls outfit and then they sing one of the girls songs that they are dressed as.
@@glutenfreebagel yaaay! didn't expect you to respond, but thanks for doing so! Keep on doing great reactions! :) I'll bump something else next video haha.
2:57 if you like both dungeon crawling and... i guess you could call it life sims? well if you like both of those you'll probably like persona. each main entry in the franchise has it's own... gimmick let's call them, well 3 onwards do. 5 has masks, 4 has tarot cards, and 3? 3 has guns
Marine is known for spending obscene amounts of her own money on music videos...she's gonna be dieting a long time after this.

I believe it’s a play on tuxedo mask from Sailor moon
yeah, Tuxedo Mask by way of Cutie Honey is probably the easiest reference point
I think the whole phantom thief trope was popular back in the 80s or 90s. You know, back when Marine was young. ;)
yeah, the showa era, which she has made it clear she ADORES , and so do i tbh
same with her like for city pop

Oooo I thought at least part of it looked 3D animated!! I didn’t realize the entire video was though!!!
