  • Replacing the valves on my beloved amp has been a bit of a long process; see part 1. In part 2, I am fitting a Dr Tube stable bias board to correct some manufacturing problems.
SAFETY WARNING - Obviously don't open high voltage equipment if you're going to end up electrocuting yourself (or breaking it of course).
The valves are from Watford Valves.

The bias kt was from Valve Tube Guitar Amps.

Please Marshall. Never let this happen again with your amps.

I just completed the Mod Kit on my TSL. Was not to difficult. Everything rock solid. My board was a 2005 rev 7, but even that rev after time had been reported to have the same issue over time.
I removed the board from the plate and used my drill press. Made the scary part much easier and keeps the drill bit from wobbling.

Man I thought you were flirting with disaster with that wobbly drill.

I did the same thing about 10 years ago on my TSL100. I also put new Classic Tone transformers and a choke in it. The thing screams.

This applies to the DSL 50's as well.
What you are doing is kind of like heart surgery followed by several fillings.
I'd just buy the replacement "20" board from Marshall for £120 or so and skip to the descaling.

Great Job! Glad you got it sorted out. Still waiting on my kits to get here the first shipment got lost in the mail but DrTube took care of me and shipped me another package. This package has made it to the USA and is showing in route so I should get them sometime next week. Since I just bought the kit version I'll be assembling the bias boards myself and then installing them in my DSL & TSL heads. It's a damn shame Marshall didn't do the right thing and stand behind their product and fix these issues free of charge instead of leaving their customers high & dry. They have lost me as a future customer for sure because of this I'll never buy another new Marshall again. My advice for anyone wanting that classic Marshall sound is to buy vintage or build your own clone with 10 times better components, transformers and point to point wiring and it will blow away any Marshall for half the money.
