My name is Aaron 51 years of age. I've always loved fragrances, but my mind would not allow me to make the purchase. I'm retired Army of 21 years and something pushed me into purchasing fragrances. Probably watching youtube. 2021 was my first true journey into purchasing fragrances was Dior Sauvage. Then I watched bowtie the fragrance guy, and the perfume guy. My first Mancera purchase was Red Tobacco, and Instant Crush. I then went with Montale Black Aoud. I started purchasing only Niche fragrances. I just do not want anything designer. I Love Tobacco scent and now really want to dive more into Oud. Don't worry, Xerjoff More Than Words will be purchased late July. Thanks for your video's

Heyyooo Marcelo, the name is Johnny and I’m bringing back the juice train this morning. Today’s drink is [Mango Tangerine]. As a bit of a newbie barely stepping into the semi-pro range, my take might not be as encompassing or accurate. However many niche fragrances have earned my praise. The biggest thing about niche to me is the fact that I had never thought of fragrance as an art medium. Making the jump from designer and realizing that high end designer is just common place for niche was freaking wild! When I have a great fragrance to smell my mind runs wild, memories that aren’t my own flow into motion on the stage of my mind and it all happens in the span of a single whiff. That right there is addictive, and I consider myself blessed to even experience it. Awesome talk mate!

Juice it is! Thanks for letting me know Johnny👊🏽
Wow! I love your description on "why niche"♥️
You reminded me on what it was like for me at the start! (not that I take the olfactory journey for granted, but forgot that it's these fragrance's that help me 'depart')
Thanks again mate for jumping into the conversation and sharing.....awesome!💫

Great discussion on reformulation and good explanation. I do my best to not worry too much about reformulations as there are so many factors at play, but there are two things I don’t like about this with certain houses (not all):
the reformulation formula isn’t always worked on by the original perfumer. Especially the case when using a flavouring house like Givaudan etc to make the formula. If it was reworked by the original nose, you may end up with a better product.
The second issue is that there is no transparency. I know it’s not a fragrance houses fault a perfume has to be reformulated due to new regulations, but the consumer should be aware you are purchasing a product that does not have the same formula as you may have originally thought. Although having said that, I know im a snob about some of this lol… and it won’t bother 99% of consumers.

☕ - what got me into niche? It was a combination of two moments. The first was the nervous rush of "investing" in my first quality fragrance (Aventus), and the second was the first time someone (you!) picked up on me wearing it!! There is something to be said about the confidence of knowing that you are most likely going to be the only person in the room wearing your scent, yet simultaneously knowing that someone is sure to have had that "if you know, you know" moment as they have caught the sillage! Re: licorice - I absolutely fell in love with L'Heure Verte by Kilian 🔥

I got into niche strolling around Liberty’s in London and I remember thinking ‘what are these brands and why have I not heard of any of them?’ So I went home and researched them and fell down the rabbit hole. I was working a horrifying job at the time and all these new brands, discovery sets, fragrances kept me going and started my collection. Jovoy, MFK, BDK, Creed, Une Nuit Nomade, Perris MC might be a good start. Parfum de Marly maybe. Definitely not Zoologist, it would be too much at the beginning!! Thanks for the vid as ever 🙏🏽🌻🙌🏽

Marcelo! I received the ‘Let me send you something’ package today!! Oh my goodness, you picked out the perfect samples for me! I love them all. Thank you so much! I currently have on my wrists, L’Iris and Ambre Destan.. wow wow wow.
How did I get into niche - A couple of TH-cam fragrance reviewers I watched at the time, started talking about niche and I went along with them for the ride. It was then I realised that niche perfumery was something special and now I’m hooked.
Flower mountain is such a lovely name for a fragrance!
I get an aniseedy smell from Naxos.. I don’t know why lol
☕️ Tea for me today ☺️

Diesel Fuel for Life often gets overlooked, because it's made by a cheaper designer that isn't trendy currently.
It's quite youthful, but the Raspberry and Anise are blended divinely.

My drink watching this is coffee. My reason for getting into niche was partly due to sampling and realising niche often smells more realistic but mostly due to wanting to try real fragrance ingedients rather than just aroma chemicals and the fact a lot of designer fragrance houses seem to use ingredients in the name or notes that aren't in the fragrance ingredients because of price but they still make the price higher e.g Oud. As far as recommending houses, it depends where you live but I'd probably start with more popular brands like Xerjoff because its easier to get samples and because they have more mass appealing options to start with.

I only got into niche perfumery last year. I hadn't bought a fragarance in probably 10-15 years. I bought a lot of designer bottles back then and I finally started running out.
I started making really good money for the first time in my life, so I wanted to get something that was higher end and not very common. I just wanted to smell different than other people.
I took a trip down to Nordstrom and Niemann Marcus to see what was out there and I wound up buying PDM Haltane, Initio Oud for Greatness, Creed Erolfa, and Xerjoff Torino 21.
I wanted stuff that would cover different seasons and occasions. After wearing those, I bought more fragrances from those houses, as well as Nishane, Memo, MFK, Amouage, and Roja.
My top 3 are Aventus, Baccarat Rouge 540 Extrait, and Carlisle. They are all pretty mass appealing, but they still smell unique to me because I'm new to this world. But, they are also pretty expensive and much like you say, you really have to smell it for yourself and decide what smells best to you and if it's worth the price.

I think would be great if you start with amazing Memo Paris.
For example African Leather or French Leather very nice and smooth leather scents could be first
    Then Corfu, Flam or Ithaque…
And Argentina for the end …
Very nice roses and oud fragrance for entry level.

Choo Choo bar Liquorice …yuuuumm….. as a scent, I’d have to test. My skin also changes scents. A very classy designer (I won’t name) I love it on everyone; on me … fly spray🥴.Oud smells like poop on my skin & the longer it sits, I’m 🤢.My skin does oxidise metals except for stainless steel, rhodium & titanium. Maybe the reason. Great content and very informative yet again. Thank you🙏🏻❤️🧡

I don't have any liquorice heavy scents, and I'm a big fan of aniseed in food (used to wear Opium pour homme long ago, and that had a star anise note). I should try out that Anka Kus one, as I've really enjoyed betwixt and between.
As for niche reccomendations for designer fans... I'd be inclined to say that reccomending something very different off the bat will probably only work for a small portion of people. Perhaps aim at quality/complexity and scent profiles similar to the popular designer types. It's easy to forget, if not wearing designers, how lacking in texture and complexity they can be (especially when rich). Notes and accords built primarily around aromachemicals tend to be shallow in character, indistinct and simplistic (not always, but often with a lot of the popular stuff these days).
The difference between a designer perfume and a superficially similar niche one, if paying attention, is typically large. Once you get a noseful of the designer, you know pretty much what it is like at that point, but with something more complex and textured, there is far more to experience at any given moment (as well as overall). Probably the simplest, and for most people probably quite good, approach is to start with the basics of appreciating the difference in the ingredients and how they fit together in accords. Jumping in both feet first can just lead to confusion.
Anyway, I shouldn't talk, the thing I'm most excited about is finding out that Tom Ford are making the Black Orchid edt again! I spotted it wandering past the Tom Ford counter about 3 hours ago, and immediately sprayed myself. It is as brilliant as I remember. Airier and more overtly floral than the EDP. Sillage is monstrous and three hours on it's still projecting like crazy. Not the sort of performance you expect from an edt in this day and age. Will try once more to make sure it isn't nostalgia, then grab a bottle and wear the hell out of it this winter 😍

Honestly I was so lucky, my wife won an award and was able to pick a bunch of prizes from a catalog. She told me to pick something for myself and I wanted to get into perfume. I looked up “best men’s perfume” on google and Aventus and Green Irish Tweet shows up. Well I picked those for free and I never looked back. I guess I have been niche the whole time. I can’t smell designer stuff now. It just doesn’t interest me as much.

    💧 (H2O).
I’d like to think that I equally love designer and niche though admittedly there are more niche in my small collection, but that’s coincidental. I would recommend these houses for a beginner based on my own journey: Ormonde Jayne (for a refined elegant introduction), Xerjoff (for variety -it’s highly likely that one will find something for every taste) and Fueguia (for those who prefer natural ingredients and the idea of having one from a limited number of batches per scent).
Not strictly a niche house - on the topic of liquorice and reformulation, I think I will be on a lifetime hunt for a vintage (specifically 1997) formulation of Lolita Lempicka - this will be my forever sentimental fragrance that continues to be out of reach. It’s violet, ivy and sweet liquorice in a forest wood fairy kind of vibe. Sadly, I only have the limited edition EDT (the one in a full apple bottle with Swarovski crystals) and I will treasure every drop and memory of every spray. 😊
Amongst the liquorice fragrances you shared, the last one seems the most interesting. I’ll see if I can find one to test.

    Good morning Marcelo!
Trying out some more "advanced" mate today - Taragui tradicional, I think I might have found my new favorite!
Could I ask you to tell us what kind of yerba you're drinking at the start of each episode? I'm curious 🤔
To answer your questions for new recruits:
I would recommend the entire house of Goldfield & Banks - they all have the designer, approachable feel of fragrances and their price is not that high but they are niche quality.
And perhaps some of the Parfums de Marly fragrances (Sedley, Greenley, Percival, Haltane...) and maybe even some of the Initio Parfums (Side effect, the Hedonist collection...) if they aren't scared by the price tag of course 😆
I love niche parfumery because it stands out from designer. All of the scents are unique and of higher quality, including every detail besides the the scent (bottle, packaging, the story behind the fragrance...), essentially making them like pieces of art.

Love the Maté Talk like always, drinking water, but hope to switch to Maté one day!
I'll try to attend the live session with Nima, but can't guarantee it since it is at 3 am for me.
Why I came into Niche perfumes, I think it was because someone told me about Creed Aventus, watching some videos on TH-cam about Niche Brands including your Hacivat review and been in love ever since. So to smell unique was the reason at first but I just love to delight my nose with smells I've never smelled before and are divine like Clive X or Radical Rose.
What brand I recommend to begin with? The one I started with, *_NISHANE_*
I'm wearing my Royal Tobacco sample now and like the licorice smell, but like most Amouage I detest the incense in it.

I think it's excessively skeptical for us to say that scents are getting reformulated as a cost-cutting measure. The product is going up in price at a rate of 10% per 2 years minimum, and typically even more in the post-COVID world. Underlying ingredients, in normal market conditions, wouldn't go up as fast. I think the main thing driving reformulations is either (1) regulation, e.g. lilial ban in EU; or (2) cash-grab / prospect of concentration flanker. Specifically re: (2), a running rumor this year which has plenty of respected community members stating it, is that Amouage is planning to release a flanker to Jubilation 25, likely to be XL (Jubi 40) and a lot of people remember the OG J25 as AN INSANE POWERHOUSE BEAST, current J25 is like eau de toilette - subpar sillage, and longevity of around 8 hours.
Re: licorice - one scent you need to get your nose on is Initio's Oud for Happiness imo. It genuinely smells really nice, the performance is a bit of a dud - at least my samples were.
