I well remember the staff closing the moveable platforms in time for the train. I believe that they were primarily needed in order to extend the platforms for long trains and read somewhere that they are unique.
Thanks for your comments. Yes think they were. Although there was somewhere with a platform near a junction where the platform end was moveable to allow trains on the curved route to enter the platform. Not sure where though.
