    Brilliant guide and with the r8 v10 plus going to be my next car it’s good to know what to look out for,really this guide has put me at ease as these faults are common across the audi range,with fixings these faults through the years on cars I’ve own my self and I’m no mechanic I’m a joiner a3,s4 and currently c7 rs6 I have learned quite a lot by fixings them,so now I’m even more excited to one day own an r8,👍

    This is a really good video, other channels are either hyping them up or straight demonizing over small details, this is a good insight to what we can expect owning a car. Cant wait for you to review 488gtb :)

    I'm looking at an RWS with fixed dampers. The plus I'm sure is the proper full experience, but I honestly think the base car looks significantly better and the cost difference is too much for me to justify.

    Is there any major problem with this R8, i am thinking to get one but afraid of maintenance, what year is best for used one, 2018, 2019? Can you please help me understand? Thanks

      @ScottishCarClan  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hey! This video will tell you everything you need to know. Overall they are very very reliable. As for which year is best... there are no large changes. Best advice is just to buy the newest, lowest mileage example possible. Good luck!

    Do you need to pull out the engine to change the belts on the 2017 v10 models?

    • @ScottishCarClan
      @ScottishCarClan  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No thankfully not. It was believed that you have to take the engine out for the a/c compressor but it’s possible to do it with it in place.

    Is there anyone who does pre-purchase inspections in Scotland (near Edinburgh) for Gen 1 R8?

    Would you recommend gen1 or gen 2 r8?

    • @ScottishCarClan
      @ScottishCarClan  ปีที่แล้ว

      A hard question! Gen 1 is a much more laid back, relaxed car. Gen 2 is more frantic and is definitely a worse influence. Budget allowing and willing to overlook having a gated manual… Gen 2 for me.

    I'm not sure how much truth is in the gearbox complete failure? The odd one maybe (and from what i have gathered they are the ones that have been launched alot or ex track day etc) gives a whine or a syncho noise. It's not a new gearbox either, a few places will recondition them inc REPerformance - I really wouldnt let this put anyone off whos watching this video, I have one, did a lot of research before I bought one and spoke to a few 'experts' about it. They are pretty bombproof in general. Also the video states most non plus have magride, they don't, most don't have it, magride was an option.

    Great cars. But what you really want is a Mk1 V10+...

    • @ScottishCarClan
      @ScottishCarClan  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh yeah Tom? What makes you say that. For the manual option?

    • @findtomdotcom
      @findtomdotcom ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ScottishCarClan It's a fair question. The option of a manual is one reason. I have the dual clutch on mine and the later version (not the previous clunky r-tronic) is a real peach of an engine/gearbox combo. I think the Mk1 looks more like a concept car than the later mk2 and it doesn't have PPFs so it sounds better out of the box. But my main reason is actually the steering. The Mk2 had (if optioned and it nearly always was), variable steering. Drive a car without it and you'll never look at a Mk2 the same again. The Mk1 is very very analog and frankly better for it. Just add a good Apple Car Play unit and it makes the ownership experience a truly great one. The Mk2 is an amazing car, but for my money, Mk1 V10+ (manual or dual clutch) just pips it for actual driving experience.

      @@findtomdotcom I rented a Gen2 v10 DCT then a Gen1 V10 DCT to test. Even though the Gen1 had more miles it was much more rewarding to drive, great feedback with steering and it felt faster like it was 2-300 lbs lighter.
