I’ve been up there before. You definitely are in the middle of nowhere! At least it’s safe and peaceful though. Does suck you’ve gotta drive really far to see a show though.
From what I was told by other bands, the reason most of the time when the shows start late,it’s because the main band or second to last band will have stipulations in their contracts. Such as they won’t play until after such and such time, the band needs x amount of time to warm up, meditate, bang hookers or whatever else is stated in the contract. Plus the promoter would add extra bands depending on the night to try to make alcohol sales. I also have been told too that If the liquor sales are low that night, the promoter would have bands delayed for an half hour to an hour so the bar can make more money, making the show go longer. I’m sure there’s lots more factors besides the ones I mention, but that’s what I heard from bands over the years.
The alcohol thing makes the most sense. I could see the "we need time to warmup, bang hookers, etc" from really BIG bands, but honestly you could warm up and band whores any time.
It sucks that metalheads at concerts instead of creating atmosphere with cigarette lighters, create atmosphere with smart phones. They have become nerds, no badass in metal anymore.
The sound, lol. I only go to relatively small shows and almost all the time the sound is bad. Even when it doesnt downright sucks, a lot of times it just isnt right. Dont know if thats an issue with bigger performances.
Most of the time (not always) that's a venue issue. Bigger venues generally have a better sound setup. Tine clubs or bars that host metal bands like to hammer you directly with "in the face" volume, whereas bigger venues spread the sound around.
I remember seeing Crawl and Incantation, and they're playing like geezer rock and Metallica at best in between the bands. Like I'm about to see one of the heaviest bands I know and you couldn't even put some Morbid Angel on the PA? Some Deicide? Obituary, there's pleeeeeeeeeenty of suuuuuuuper mainstream Death Metal that everyone knows that would be just fitting for that a miiiiillion times over that other shit they got playin' that's for daaaaaaamn sure.
Moshing etiquette in general. If it’s a death metal show don’t hardcore dance, if no one else is hardcore dance don’t hardcore dance. Don’t mosh outside of the mosh pit, there’s a pit for a reason. Don’t mosh if no one else is trying to mosh with you.
I personally wouldn't mind hearing some Three 6 Mafia before a show, HOWEVER; Sound people, PLEASE, select APPROPRIATE MUSIC for the APPROPRIATE SHOW. At the Hellripper show last November in Scotland (with Rancid Cadaver and Coffin Mulch supporting), they played a whole bunch of speed/thrash metal, pumped me up inbetween the sets!
hey man i don’t know if you remember but at the morbosidad show i came up to you i was wearing the blasphemy shirt! what’s funny is at that venue the security guard puts the gangster rap not the sound guy, he also got fired last week so there probably won’t be much more rap on that tv lol

The flashing stage lights. Every club or bar should know it tires you out. If you're at a fest it's hard to stay awake after strobe lights for 8 bands.
I agree with you Drewcifer...i am from Oklahoma..bands that play pass 11pm either get fined or they have to pay more...i would like to save my vacation days after concert... certain ones,,i am gladly use my vacation day...
Oh yeah I absolutely agree with too many bands on a bill/shows starting too late. Honestly in my opinion any more than 3 bands on a bill is too many. Whenever there's more than 3 bands on a bill it turns into whole ass event instead of a concert, it just drags on way too long and it's exhausting. Whenever I go to shows I have to request the day after off. I don't live in a city so I have like an hour and a half drive just to get to venues, so I'm never even home until the middle of the night.
My biggest issue with live metal is it almost always sounds like shit. Can’t make out a single riff. Saw Black Curse with some noise artist opening-when BC came on it sounded exactly the same but with blastbeats. This goes for cleaner bands as well like Nile and Suffocation. It’s a wall of noise, lots of energy but that’s it. May as well be at a Merzbow show surrounded by karate-kid hardcore douchebags who you can’t hit back without getting jumped. No thanks. Edit: I hope you mean $lam when you say “brutal death”. And you don’t like grind? Bruh
@@kapriizais8278 Yes. I only recently started wearing earplugs and I don't think I'll ever go back. Everything sounds better and my ears aren't ringing 3 days later.
There's some grind and brutal death metal that I like, but if a show has several bands (in the case of Mortician live it was 8 bdm/grind bands) in a row I'm fuckin bored.
Nile is a clean band?? .... Earplugs do help a little, but it depends on how the band soundchecks beforehand. One band that sounds terrible when playing live is Spectral Voice. I saw them and even with earplugs I couldn't make out anything they were playing. But one time I saw Deicide and the sound was amazing. I could hear everything somewhat clearly.
Dude, I agree no more than 4 bands a show if its not a festival. I also agree that no one wants to see a opening band play forever. Leave that for bands that have a lot of material and fans. If no one gives a shit about your band to begin with wearing out your welcome by playing too long could hurt you more than if you just stayed home and watched the 700 Club.
@@Drewcifer Exactly. Plus The 700 Club is bad and funny and a waste of time if there is nothing else on TV. Too many bands is a waste of time that could be spent doing a million other things and no laughing matter
I agree with all of this. Yet aside from those things, I'd also like to add the number of people who record an entire band's set with their cellphones. I wouldn't mind it so much if these people weren't blocking your view with their devices.
I get annoyed when the opening bands sound nothing like the headline act e.g. when I saw Carcass, they had a goth rock band open for them. Especially since there are loads of underground death/extreme metal bands who could’ve done with the exposure. I remember the crowd just standing there awkwardly.
I definitely agree with the starting to late thing, even tho I don’t work until later in the day I still don’t want to be driving home at 2 in the morning.
The fact that you said it went on for 3 hours??? told you all you need to know somebody has to stand up and have some balls. I was at a Deicide show years back in the 90s and they were playing Beastie boys and they came on stage and said if they didn't turn the shit off they were packing their shit up and leaving because they already got paid. Now that's how things get done.
I play in 2 metal bands. Totally agree with the 30 min opinion. I’ve headlined shows where the venue gives us 45 and I feel like I’m overstaying my welcome after 30 mins. I can feel it in the energy of the crowd. 30 mins is perfect.
I wear two sets of hearing protection when I go to shows. No band, no matter how much I love them, is worth blowing out my eardrums for the rest of my life. I like being in a mosh pit though what annoys me are the people that don’t know when to knock it off or try to slam into people outside of the pit. I’m AuDHD and you are in a race against time with my sensory overload problem. Get to the headliner already. If I want to see some random local bands, I’ll go to them. I love the shows with four people in the audience.
The #1 thing I hate about modern metal shows is how certain bands get booted off shows because they're "controversial." It got to a point I just stopped going to a few venues around here in New England because they're downright canceling bands. I'm not supporting that bullshit. This is UNDERGROUND METAL. Nothing should be off limits. But yes, I don't get why they play rap in between bands at metal shows either. Being into hardcore pretty much as I am into metal, yeah, be prepared to block or you'll likely get a spin kick to the face. I remember back in the day being like 13 and getting clocked in the head nearly unconscious. Haha.
Shows starting late is irritating, I drink alcohol but I feel like venues want people to drink and spend money on booze. Rather than having a show end at 10pm. Where I’m at the curfew laws cuts shows off around 11pm but idk why a band can’t tour and play a show at noon lol, I sound old but come on!
I've experienced numerous times as well at shows the venue playing some garbage music that doesn't fit the scenery of the show. I went to see Krisiun when they came to my state and they were literally playing Eminem and I was thinking "why the fuck are they playing this shit at a Krisiun show"? Another funny story was when I saw Profanatica come to my state last year I was talking to Paul Ledney and he noticed my Black Witchery shirt and thought it was nice and the venue was playing some generic sounding Black Metal and Paul told me "They're playing gay shit, I'm gonna go talk to the sound guy and have him put on Black Witchery" and that's exactly what happened. They then switched the playlist and started playing Black Witchery, Mystifier, Proclamation, and Impetigo which I thought was cool.
Too many bands playing, bad openers, shows starting too late, opening bands playing too long of sets before the actual headliners, bad crowds, bad attendance for badass bands that come out of country to tour but everyone shows up in droves when (insert overrated band name) comes to town etc
Drunk fashion obsessed people that have bigger egos than the actual musicians in the scene, poser girls that to go out of their way to go to every show but don’t own a single release of these bands they claim to like, people that have been in the metal scene for two or three years that act like they’re the coolest people in the scene, crowd killer posers that are there just to get drunk and mosh.
Local bands pack the bill because they think it means more people will show up. But it never works. Most bands and their friends show up just before, and leave once their set is done.
I loooove moshing to heavy shit, but I absolutely get what you mean. I once saw Tenacious D at a festival and the amount of people moshing to fucking Kickapoo was shocking. I couldn't believe it. I had to get much further away from the stage in order to watch the show comfortably.
The music played between bands can definitely be annoying. A lot of times you are at the mercy of the person working sound at the venue. It definitely ruins the mood to hear non-Metal tunes at Metal shows.
@@DrewciferHermano,my question is f.. serious even if you'll find it naive but I'm a 55 year old die hard European stupid metalhead and I'm honestly wondering what do you mean by hippies in metal? I know what hippies were of course!! But since I like your videos and what's more, you wear a Sodom t-shirt💪, I would like you to explain that a little to an ignorant old subscriber(maybe with some band exemples)I'll be grateful bro🤟🤟
To be honest, I've never enjoyed anything about live shows. All I got from it is a tinnitus. Most of the time, the sound guys were bad too and one even made the lead guitar inaudible at a festival. But maybe music hasn't been that impactful to me even back then since I treat it mostly as background noise to drone out said tinnitus. Why would I want to pay money to look at dudes playing music while I am surrounded by moshing monkeys
Lmao fair enough. I just recently started wearing earbuds during live shows to lessen the insane volume and honestly I think I'll never go back. I used to think it was lame, but not being deaf for 2 days afterwards is fantastic.
You know. I love gangsta rap myself, Ovcoarse Horrorcore Rap, But I agree that when I go to a Metal show or play a Metal show with my band Gorefetish, I wanna Hear nothing but Metal playing in between sets, because its a Metal show. Some of the venues in my hometown Chico Ca will play whatever they want too in between sets. We use to have a venue up here called the Metal Shop and it was nothing but Metal Shows. Its was one of my favorite places to play, because it was a wharehouse/club house that revolved around Hard Rock and Metal. Now and these days, Chico's venus are too scared too play Metal on their speakers unless its Black Sabbath or something like that, which is also sometimes rare too.

That would be some weird shit, going to a metal show and hearing rap playing for an hour. 😂
It sucks man. Rap is easily my least favorite popular music style.
It sucks that metalheads at concerts instead of creating atmosphere with cigarette lighters, create atmosphere with smart phones. They have become nerds, no badass in metal anymore.
Dude what are you talking about about lmao metalheads have always been nerds,(Anthrax literally made a song about Judge Dredd, a comic character)
@@excaliberdg1178 There’s nerds and then there’s Chad nerds. Metalheads used to be the latter.
Yes. Cancer sticks are the solution. Phones cause cancer smh 🤦♂️
"More-boss-edad" lmao
I've been catching shit for that for years.
The people who run these places are clueless when it comes to our tunes, man. It never fails lol
F you suicidal grind , 😆 🤣 😂 you still jamming dude ? \m/
@@mikeviolate666 I'm still jamming all the time bro.
I personally wouldn't mind hearing some Three 6 Mafia before a show, HOWEVER;
Sound people, PLEASE, select APPROPRIATE MUSIC for the APPROPRIATE SHOW.
Oh hey man. Was it the older hispanic dude that sits by the door? What did he get fired for, do you know?
@@Drewcifer yeah it was him, he got fired for being drunk on the job and trying to fight one of my friends actually
@@orchidectomyindia crazy shit man.

That's a good way to look at it 😂
Exactly, very well said. I'm 44 and feel that way😂
Brother you hit the nail on the head a lot is on the promoters and clubs stalling time for you to spend at the bar... and my band did get screwed one night playing at 2:30 am and had the privilege of seeing the sun come up not fun lol😂 but brother thanks for the shout and yes you said my email right
I'm seeing a lot of agreements on the late shows issue. Hopefully someone booking these things will pay attention lol.
Yeah man that sucks.
Yeah man and its harder to play extreme metal late at night for a lot of people if you're headlining the night.
Bruh
Earplugs dude
You had me at "dump truck ass".🤣
Lmao that's all yours bro.
@@Drewcifer 🤘😂
Dude, I agree no more than 4 bands a show if its not a festival. I also agree that no one wants to see a opening band play forever. Leave that for bands that have a lot of material and fans. If no one gives a shit about your band to begin with wearing out your welcome by playing too long could hurt you more than if you just stayed home and watched the 700 Club.
At least at home you can turn Pat Robertson's dumbass off 😂
@@Drewcifer Exactly. Plus The 700 Club is bad and funny and a waste of time if there is nothing else on TV. Too many bands is a waste of time that could be spent doing a million other things and no laughing matter
4 bands to a show is good local mid tier and then two headliners
4 bands is fair, especially if the show starts at a reasonable time.
Im a couple hours from Houston.
I agree with all of this. Yet aside from those things, I'd also like to add the number of people who record an entire band's set with their cellphones. I wouldn't mind it so much if these people weren't blocking your view with their devices.
Thank you!!! 3 to 4 bands is enough and plus dragging ass etc. Sounds like an 'old man' gripe but yea I feel your pain.
There is only 2 clubs i actually like going to in Washington anymore.if its 8 bands in 2 separate rooms its fine ,like a dwarves or dri.show
I get annoyed when the opening bands sound nothing like the headline act e.g. when I saw Carcass, they had a goth rock band open for them. Especially since there are loads of underground death/extreme metal bands who could’ve done with the exposure. I remember the crowd just standing there awkwardly.
I definitely agree with the starting to late thing, even tho I don’t work until later in the day I still don’t want to be driving home at 2 in the morning.
When ever I hear rap in between metal bands sets it’s usually because that’s what the band who is about to come on stage wants to listen to
If that's true then it should be a giant red flag for that band.
Agreed Rap Sucks! Hey man how do I send Evil Incarnate package for review? Old School \m/
Fuck yeah man. Evil incarnate! My email is in the description box man. Dr3wcifer at yahoo dot com.
Now that's how things get done.
lol that's fair. I think everyone was thinking the same thing and making fun of it to their friends.
Yeah I've recently seen the light on wearing earbuds during shows. Ill never go back.
i am almost a geezer ... hearing damage since my teens .... worth every note
100% 👍
Niiice
I guess im a fellow old man. I rather have 3 to 4 bands give a solid set and be on my way home before midnight.
YES!
I am a homeboy. I don't want to hear rap at the concert. I hear rap all the time. I love heavy music. I am from H Town. I am always at the Scout Bar.
Cool man. Different strokes for different folks. I hate it personally.
@@Drewcifer I prefer Death Metal. I try to go to as many concerts as possible.
Ive played MANY shows just like this lol. Very true.
I will come up to you next show. Introduce myself.
That's cool.
I loooove moshing to heavy shit, but I absolutely get what you mean. I once saw Tenacious D at a festival and the amount of people moshing to fucking Kickapoo was shocking. I couldn't believe it. I had to get much further away from the stage in order to watch the show comfortably.
Lol great song tho!
True that hehe@@Drewcifer
The music played between bands can definitely be annoying. A lot of times you are at the mercy of the person working sound at the venue. It definitely ruins the mood to hear non-Metal tunes at Metal shows.
Yeah man. We need more "in touch" sound guys at metal shows lol
You know whats the worst hippies

Nothing worse then a metal fan. That's by far the worst thing about metal shows.
That's cool. To each their own.
The only 2 songs you could “mosh” to by Satan is Heads Will Roll and Trial By Fire- at that same token you ain’t really moshing to that. I wanna circle out to Raven but I don’t out of respect

Maybe that’s and Htown thing during set switches I’ve never heard rap at any shows in San Antonio in clubs shows but it has been awhile since I’ve been to a show maybe something new going on.
I'm tired of going to shows and the sound is so bad all you hear is a wall of BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. Hell even Judas Priest I couldn't hear Rob for the first 5 songs.
