    Translation by Daphie.B on instagram:
Q:After so many years in band what are the pros and cons of being a solo musician?
VV: I only deal with myself! I don't have to compromise, and I don't have to follow other guys schedules, who needs to change diapers when or when he can play some music. Something that happens when people have children. The con of being solo musician is that sometimes I definitely feel lonely, when we are band, we can exchange ideas!
Q: More than twenty years ago the media named you as a 'sex simbol', did you think it helped as much as hindered your career?
    0:50
VV : Well that was 20 years ago *laughs* but uh yeah yeah of course, I think the image and the visuals are very important in rock n roll. If you think of the bands like KISS or whatever, their image is definitely recognizable! When I was a kid, I've listened to musicians of their generation and I dreamed to be like them! Playing rock and roll and have eyeliner, but the image it must not be the most important, the music should come first and how you look should only complement the music! Still, it's curious to imagine a guy like Gerard Depardieu as the lead singer of Alter Bridge, that would’ve been funny!
Q:There is an alternative that alcohol and drugs enhance the musician's creativity. What would you say based on your experience?
    1:41
VV: No, I don't think so. I think it maybe loosens you up a bit especially if you’re younger and intimidated and a bit unsure..that’s what alcohol does to everybody, you know, if you’re a bit shy it helps you out maybe socially and stuff. That’s what it does with music as well but I don’t think that..alcohol has never written any HIM songs, I’ve written the songs so you know that’s the big difference.
You get to be sort of like in the gutter, but you can’t do it forever because your body gets tired and your mind gets tired and your work starts to suffer. So I wouldn't advise any upcoming young musicians to start the day with a bottle of red wine, rather pick up the guitar.
Q: You used to make covers. Is there some song you wish you had written?
    2:40
VV: No! Because I think when you write a song you can never fall in love with it the same way you fall in love with somebody else’s song.
So let’s say if Wicked Game by Chris Isaak was written by me it wouldn’t be as special song as it is now.
I’m a fan of music, like Live to Tell by Madonna or Doves cry by Prince or everything by Black Sabbath! I’m a fan, first and foremost. I try to bring all the sort of like influences from all those idols to my music and make a cocktail out of all and that’s what I do.. but uh Bohemian Rhapsody..well maybe Happy Birthday, the money from the rights for its public use is are pretty good.
Q: Art people have a specific sensibility. Why are they never satisfied?
VV: This is not only for artists, it's about the engineers and people who do design! This is happened to people who like things to be perfected, so with any profession that has attention to detail! A project is not done till it's ready and can takes years of working to release! Normal people often don't understand this! To them, creators look like freaks!
So much effort and work for years, seems like madness! People who pay attention to every detail are a special breed! To these people I will add the cooks! They approach food with a particular passion! I know some chefs and all of the are little bit crazy!
Q: What things in today's music industry annoy you the most?
VV: That the music industry makes you focus on social media! Instead of working on their creative development, musicians are obliged to gather followers. If you are musician and you love music, you will do music 24/7! Music should always come first! The goal of every musician is to make a good song, if he can do that, he has done the most important thing! Everything else is a lot of work and effort! This is the most important! Even if you're tired of working, it doesn't mean you'll write a good song!
Q: What would and wouldn't the young Ville like in the current Ville and vice versa?
VV: The most important to me is to learn from my mistakes and it's really stupid if you do the same mistakes! So I wouldn't say anything to young Ville, let him make all the mistakes, without them he wouldn't be the current Ville! My younger self would be disappointed that I didn't become more famous!
Q: Your life is full of twists and turns and extreme experiences. Which of them would you define as the most extreme that you have done?
VV: The most extreme things I've done I don't remember at all! People have only told me about them afterwards. I've obviously learned from the best, like Ozzy Osborne! I have done many extreme and dangerous things in time! My biggest shits have nothing to do with the band or the music! They are work of the idiot in me! I’ve been quite an idiot. But I’m sort of like bit by bit shedding off my idiot skin and turning into morose boring person.
Q: To what do you attribute the fact that today's generation is not defined by a specific style of music, but listening to all kind music?
VV: Music, especially rock music isn’t as tribal as it used to be. Because back in the day you were either Twisted Sister fan or you were a KISS fan. And these days you have so many genres artists and subgenres and everybody seems to want their own little band they’re listening to. The most important is not what people are listening to, but having good songs! They are what draws people to music in general! No matter what style is, if it's good, people will appreciate it! Just recently I watched a documentary about Robbie Williams! It is about his song 'Angels' which was a huge hit in the 90's. This is song everybody likes, 'Bohemian rhapsody' by Queen and 'Wicked game' by Chris Isaak are the same category! Great song is always a great song.
With all due respect to some of today’s artists but their music doesn't touch me.
I haven’t heard a song by Dua Lipa that would make me cry because the song is that emotional, it just made me cry because it sounds shit.

I'm a huge fan of HIM, but not that much of Ville as a solo musician. I'm sad he makes that appreciation about Dua Lipa while he doesn't realize his latest songs sound very similar to some of hers.

@@anfisak4870 I don't think he's jealous, like Alina says. But he certainly is obliterating the fact that his style, or sound, has entered completely into the pop area.
Loveletting is an undeniable proof of that. I won't criticize the genre for itself. There are a lot of features I don't like in all of them, even in heavy metal. May be I could say, most of all, in heavy metal, which is my favourite.
I thought people would be bashing my comment, I'm glad it wasn't the case. Anyway, I hope you're wrong on Ville being a narcissist. I'm not saying he isn't, I just fear it with every artist I admire. I can't stop wondering about the real reasons for HIM to break up and for Ville to turn into a pop singer instead of being a solo metal singer. He has plenty of time to experiment with things since he's on his own now; like putting the piano in the main sound of songs. Is a piano metal genre possible outside of ballads?

    • @ACMr2d2
      @ACMr2d2 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

It's not because it's pop music. He is just saying that recent music isn't very emotional, and then he gave the example of Dua Lipa which in his opinion, has little emotion and melody in it. To him it sounded like shit since he likes melodic and emotional music.
This is not a surprise because some experts in music here on TH-cam already analyzed the music that usually is on the pop charts and they say that those songs are very poor in terms of melody, and they are all very similar.
