It's a great (but hard 💀) game - I would really recommend trying to 112% the game it's a great challenge love the video! Also, it's not really a Souls game, it's more a metroidvania, hence the extreme amounts of backtracking and the sort of immersion into the vast world of Hallownest. Hope you enjoy it!
You were right on the money with the souls like thing, people only compare the dark souls games to this because of difficulty. It makes a lot more sense to call it a MetroidVania
on 17:32 you can break the wall below your feet using nail, the caterpillar were there with two aspid (u can differentiate the breakable wall with unbreakable by the crack on them, the breakable wall have many crack on the rock). u can also hit the barrell to them in false knight fight and u also can break the otherside wall to run from the fight after phase 1. its nice seeing new player playing hollow knight, it is difficult with abit more platforming and will lead you to hell, but please enjoy it
if you want to see how to get those 2 grubs (the one you couldn't reach, and the one you couldn't see) I could post a short video on it. they are not too hard to get.
A Souls-like is a subgenre of action role-playing and action-adventure games. These games are known for their high levels of difficulty and emphasis on environmental storytelling, typically in a dark fantasy setting. I've never played Dark Souls or any other 3rd person RPG+action game, but Hollow Knight certainly fits this definition.
I mean it is the most popular metroidvania ever, also one thing, the game IS NOT a souls-like, people just label it like that because of the healing system, the shade mechanic, and its difficulty.
Uh, not really "souls-like" but there are some design similarities. The original Dark Souls did have some metroidvania in its world design. Hollow Knight shares several other elements with Dark Souls, which lends itself to the comparison. The run back to your death location for currency, the obscure storytelling based in item descriptions, the melancholy atmosphere, the respawn of enemies upon resting, the difficult but fair challenges, etc. People who like the style of Dark Souls generally find something to like in Hollow Knight.
