I am still going through that nightmare. I bought a Tacoma in 'Vegas, from a dealer in May 2020, just as the whole C-19 debacle got started. I financed the truck through a credit union, so the actual title needed to be sent to them. I live south of 'Vegas in Arizona. The AZ MVD had halted walk-in service and required you to make an appointment, when I called the earliest appointment I could get was in two months. When I finally got into the office they informed me that they had not received the necessary paperwork from Nevada. They issued me a 90 day permit. Rinse and repeat. The dealer went out of business. I managed a McDonald's in the 80s. We were instructed to not argue, defend, or explain away issues during an inspection by any agency. We were to listen and take notes to fix the issues. If something was not clear, ask questions. It shows that you care and are taking issues seriously. Once the inspector leaves, you use your notes to correct the issues. I never had an inspection where something was so egregious or urgent that it had to be taken care of immediately. If there was, that's when you take action during the inspection.

It took over well over the 30 days Texas allows to get them to even submit my tags to the State of Texas. They screwdd my 'file' up from the minute we clicked buy. They tried not to honor the 7 day money back guarantee by saying the shipper (we don't live near a vending machine and paid to have it brought to us from Illinois where it physically was. It was a Michigan titled car) lied and told them they delivered it 6 days and 12 hrs sooner than they did. 🤦‍♀️ then once I got that "fixed", they had to add 7 days to the warranty. My car insurance renewal is on a 6 month cycle. We clicked buy the last Friday of March and the cycle renews middle of June - plenty of time since Texas requires titles be done in 30 days. Their next excuse, they told me Texas requires the insurance card say 60 days. So I did the math and told them exactly how many days it was since they cldn't count high enough.... so what else is "wrong" with my application. All these things were somehow my fault btw. I was on the phone with them nearly every single day. They have a "3rd party" that handles titles and registrations and what are the chances (sarcasm font) that you can get in touch with them? 0. Absolutely 0. Carvana didn't send my pkt to them until my insurance card only had like 30 days left, which was abt 45 days after they got it and should have sent it..... they had to kick it back. I was furious that I yet again had to deal with them and their stupidity about the insurance cards. I've done out of state title transfers to bring a car into Texas for us in the past. I've done both from an out of state dealer and from a private party. It's not that damn hard at all and they never once fussed about the date on my insurance card. This was them badly attempting to pass the buck to me, the buyer. I complied with their 60 days, so they just held my paperwork and didn't send it to the 3rd party, if they even exist tbh. I was lied too so many times by them, I will never do biz with them again. I went to the local office here and asked if there was anything I cld do and they said no. It has to be done by the dealership since they're licensed here. Which infuriated me because at one point they explicitly told me that I should have told them I was able to go the office locally because they wld have given me the self file version of the paperwork. State of Texas says there's no legal way to do that here so yet another lie from Carvana. They demanded documents from the bank that the bank said they don't generate until the dealer cashes the ck. Carvana wldn't cash the ck until they got the document. I fought about that one for a week until I uploaded the bank paperwork AGAIN, except with great big bright highlights all over it so they will have to read it, that explicitly stated if they accept the bank ck for payment, they accept they won't get this document until they cash the damn ck. So I had to tell them if they don't cash the ck, come get the damn car and send my bank ck back. They were upset I filled out the dollar amount on the ck. Sounds like that wld conflict with them shredding paperwork and getting out of having to file odometer requirements but that's just my supposition of course. The Michigan titled car was sold to us from Illinois. We were sent 30 day Illinois temp tags. Ok. So when those expired and Texas told me I had to deal with Carvana, I was promptly sent Arizona temporary tags that are good for 60 or 90 days. I can't remember off top of my head right now. I kept calling them every couple days because they kept sending me requests for the same damn information. At one point I sent the docs they requested through their portal every hr until they called me to say they got it. I said I needed a confirmation email stating exactly what they received. Never got the email but since repeatedly sending shit got their attention, I kept doing that. This excuse of we do it right 98% of the time is horse puckey. They have systems in place and can instantly react to getting replacement temporary plates over and over again when they can't pull their head out and get the real titles and registration done for some self caused reason. I'll never buy from them again. The car is good, the warranty was nice and easy but Silverrock gets the credit for that, not Carvana. They also will never call you if you're missing something. You have to call and ck the status and they will tell you oh, we're missing this. We're missing that. And they won't tell you all at one time either one day it's this and the next day it's that. I've met more ppl that have had trouble than people that haven't with Carvana. They need to be shut down and make room for someone who can actually follow the damn laws.

I know of a guy around here who had a MBA and a number of year's experience working for a corporation. He then decided to go into the daycare industry (?) with the long term goal being that he would buy a few pilot daycares, organize them properly and then after they were wildly successful he would franchise them as McDonald's like daycares. His view was that he finally would organize what appeared to him to be a mom & pop amateur industry. The reality was that he knew nothing about daycares, and daycare employees. Within a year reality had set in. Employees quit and parents moved on, and he closed both pilot daycares. He blamed everyone but himself. It amazes me how often business people think that all businesses are the same, and that THEY are masters of all business.
Has any huge corporation purchased another company who is in a completely different industry and then they've made a success out of it? From year's ago I think of AMF (bowling balls) and Harley-Davidson (not bowling balls). Warren Buffet makes a success of it because he buys a company's management as well as their assets and makes no assumptions that HE knows how to run Coca-Cola.
I doubt if Carvana went into this as crooks. But the responsibility for Carvana was to completely understand Michigan's and other state's regulations BEFORE they sold a single car. They fundamentally misunderstood the infrastructure and individual state paperwork requirements. Now, and of course, they blame this on government regulation.

I commented on a previous video about the sales tax collection and had several people get offended, telling me that I had no clue what I was talking about, so it gives me great pleasure to have you point that out (again) in this video and that it is indeed one of the ways that the respective States can come after a dealer for not obeying the laws and regulations. People seem to think that the dealership can just sit on the money they collected for the tax and that the State will be fine with that, and in probably the majority of cases the opposite is true. The State wants their money, and I know from business experience that they get nasty if they don't receive it in a timely manner.

In Canada, the title is provided BEFORE any money exchanges hands, dealer or private. The province only gets involved when you register the vehicle, get your plates and insurance. Also, no insurance, no plates. We have temporary "tags" available but we call them permits. They are put on the inside upper left corner of the rear window, clearly visible to the police, I believe the expiry date is also in large print. They temporarily register the vehicle AND have basic insurance included. But they are only available at a government licencing office. The US states should follow suit. It would solve all their problems.

Last time I bought a car (2005) the dealer sent me to the nearest insurance agency (government run insurance company) to get the plates and return to complete the sale. Drove off the lot with the plates attached. They remained on the vehicle until it got written off this summer.

I don't know about Canada but here in the states there is a high degree of incompetence and fraud associated with federal goverment agencies, most people are skeptical of them the state governments are better but we like to have options so the very thought of a single source for insurance just won't fly here.

      @BubbaBubbinski 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@jda72 I should clarify a bit. What I posted is in Saskatchewan, where insurance is based more on the value of the vehicle you drive. For example, in Alberta, plates are supplied by the government and you can buy your insurance at many different places. That way (and I happen to agree with this) the insurance is for the driver, based on age and statistics. Older, more experienced drivers get a break on insurance. I lived in Alberta in 1980, and the plates were $25.00 for 5 years, but my insurance was almost $200.00/month, or $2400.00/year for a 1967 Dodge Coronet that I purchased in 1978 for $700.00. I was only 21 and just at the top of the first tier drivers (16 to 21) when I turned 22 in 1981, my insurance dropped to almost only 1/2 of what it was when I was 21.

I got a good Carvana Paperwork story! I bought an SUV back last fall. Process was pretty straightforward, signed the typical slew of documents, they made copies of all of them and gave me Carvana Binder with the all the documents (as dealers typically do). Fast forward about a month, I get an urgent call and text saying I need to complete all the documents again. So I call and ask what the issue is. The response was the original paperwork had been "misplaced" (most is done electronically, so I'm not even sure how that could happen). So instead of filling out all new paperwork, I offered to scan and email all my "customer copy" documents from my binder. The phone reps response was, "Wow, yeah that would be great!" Seriously, what car dealer loses all the paperwork and then relies on the customer to provide their copies.

I am not disputing all claims about Carvana mentioned in the video, but I would like to say that I dealt with Carvan on two occasions, in both occasions I sold them vehicles. In 2018 I sold them a 2017 Nissan Rogue Sport that I was financing and in June 2022 I sold them my parents 2018 Mercedes Benz Metris. In both occasions we ended up getting Top Dollar, we got more money for the vehicle than I would expect to pay for it privately or even at a reasonable dealer. We never had any issues with paperwork, and they always noted the necessary details. I am not affiliated with Carvana in anyway, but I would like to give credit where credit is due. I also don't know what system they have in place that allows them to offer so much money for the vehicles, but my vehicles were "mint". I suspect they have a system in place that they know where the demand is for that vehicle so they can flip it "in no time", turning a profit almost immediately. I see that as the only possibility. Your guess as good as mine!
Why I would suspect they have that system in place? That is because I researched my offers with Carvana and their competitors over some times as we were considering the selling and buying options. This was over about 3 months and offers would vary over time, sometimes high and sometimes lower. So I "hunted" for it until I could get the highest offer I could again when we were clear about what we wanted to do, when I was ready we took the offer. Just to put it in perspective, Carmax was $5000 less than the Carvanas and Vrooms lowest offers. But Carvana had the top dollar again in June this year, coupled with the fact that I had dealt with Carvana in 2018 made me just move quickly. I only speak for my personal experience but selling to them is like returning stuff on Amazon.

Another thing to remember is that the gouvernement is always willing to help you to follow the laws. You may get a fine still, but they will help you to goes back on the right tracks. All you have to do is follow their recommendations.
Like for carvana, the gouvernement most likelly said "hey, you forgot to file those paperworks, do it within x days or there will be a fine". All they had to do is: "oh, we forgot about them, we'll do it right away" and just make sure to always fill them on time. "But you also failed this" "oh? What does the law say exactly? Oh, right, we'll fix our procedures"...
The gouvernement is not there to close shops. They are there to get their share of the money you made. Therefore it is in their own goods to help you to do it right, not to close your business.
Look at this carvania case. How many times did the gouvernement tried to help them? How many chances did they get? Yet even with that suspension they can get their license reintroduced and still continue to sell cars IF THEY CAN JUST FOLLOW THE LAWS. At this point it is pure incompetance or willingfully violating the laws. In both cases they should not be allowed to sell cars. Yet the gouvernement is still willing to let them work, and help them...

It’s too bad this trend continues. My wife and I bought a car through Carvana a little over a year ago. It was 100% perfect for us. It is literally the best experience I’ve ever had buying a car. We live in Tennessee. I don’t know if this makes it different but on of my sisters (who lives in Kalamazoo) bought one through Carvana as well. She went to Detroit and did the whole vending ma home thing. Her experience was Ok but definitely not great. Her car had scuffs and possibly body work from an accident that wasn’t disclosed and she couldn’t see it in the pictures. I bought a semi years ago from a national dealer (which we paid $53,000 cash for BTW) and we picked the truck up from Salina Ks. They didn’t have the title. They told us every title for every vehicle goes through the corporate office in Kansas City. They told us one lady does every title. We were like “Are you kidding? One lady does every title?” They explained every state seem to have some nuanced differences so the easiest way not run afoul is have one person that only does title work. She knows each state intimately and gets it right every time. If you can believe it we drove the truck back to Tennessee the next day and the title beat us home. That’s how the pros do it.

The only reason MDOT & AG don't seek to shut down dealer immediately is because (I assume) employees have jobs & being paid and sales taxes being paid.
If I was AG rep I'd be asking CARVANA what high level manager(s) have been/will be fired (w/o "golden parachute") for cause? Or what are you doing to get a new management team on board or a new franchisee?
Can't VIN "irregularities" rise to the level of Federal felonies? The Prez just made plenty of space available in Fed prisons with pardons.

5 minutes spent comparing Carvana and Carmax reviews and return policy, and you’ll never look at a Carvana ad again. Carmax is amazing.

In some countries, aren't the vehicles already plated when you purchase them?

Car I sold to them was immediately resold without notice that it has aftermarket remote start. Tried three times to make sure new buyer knows as remote start accidentally in a garage might kill the family in the home. They never notified the buyer - I never gave them the key sequence.
