Life in a snow globe with a napping puppy named "Grizzly" that's why I keep coming back. May I add, I really enjoy your thorough, honest and comfortable approach to tutorials. Well done and thanks again darlin.
Ariel, you have a great way of demonstrating and teaching. That was great info. Grizzly looks so content, and I'm sure you love his companionship. Thank you for all your content. I noticed you are subscribed to my self reliance, and who wouldn't be?. That man is a very hard worker, with determination and drive! I've watched all his videos, of building his own log cabin, without electricity and alone. It's a beautiful cabin, and so much more he is ready to do., that I don't want to miss out on. Plus everyone loves Doug and Stacy. Love your channel too!♡♡♡
Thanks! Yeah like I said, I don't watch many videos myself because I prefer to read or listen to audio books so the screen is not occupying my vision, but I am clearly in the minority these days. And there are are few other channels that I very much enjoy when I do take the time to watch something!
Another way to search someone's channel (even your own) is from that channel's home page, at the right of the 'home/videos/playlists/etc' set of tabs is the magnifying glass - if you choose this a 'search this channel' box opens, which might be more direct than using Google search ? Also, and this is something I was surprised to find even experienced YT users sometimes don't know, and you did mention it, is from the top left YT menu, clicking on 'subscriptions' takes you to the feed page, which shows all the latest vids from channels you are subscribed to - I find this _much_ more reliable than using YT 'notifications' (the bell), which does not always work. I don't make many vids, but some of my few subscribers have actually not been aware until I asked them, that I have a new vid up :o)
Another good tip, thanks! Yeah youtube is not good at actually notifying people when there is new content, even from creators that you have told them you want to know about. They seem to prefer to pick what they think you would like to see instead of what you have stated you would like to see which is a bit frustrating for me.
Nice video as always Ariel, You covered just about everything very well. I would like to add just a couple of things that you left out. Don't forget to give videos that you liked the thumbs up, not only is it good for the creator of the channel, but it also helps TH-cam and those 'algorithms' be more likely to suggest other things that you will like too. Also, rather than, or in addition to, pulling out to the google search page, and then refining your query to things on TH-cam, when you are still in TH-cam you can use that search box to search by topic as well as by creator. Just type things in it such as "What is objectivism," or "How to make banana bread," "How to change the distributor in a 1972 f250" or whatever it is you are wondering about. You'll get a list of videos about the topic, then if you watch one usually you'll get more leads on that page, but don't forget to back up to the results of your original search and look at some of the other suggestions too, some are much more useful than others. BTW, I found your channel and watched you first on Tiny House Expeditions. I haven't had a television subscription for maybe 7 years now, TH-cam, Netflix, and several other sites keep me entertained, and maybe better informed, than the 'networks' ever did, or at least I'm watching what I'm more interested in rather than what may be popular, "Friends,""Oprah," or whatever. My big screen tv became a monitor, and my remote became a wireless mouse. For short things, I pull up an onscreen keyboard and type with the mouse, but I also have a wireless keyboard for longer input. So as you can see, I have self educated myself pretty well with TH-cam and the internet, more so than I think I learned in college years ago. Cheers, thanks for the video, and don't forget folks to give Ariel big thumbs up!
Thank you! Yes, the more you watch, thumbs up, share, subscribe, and comment, the more TH-cam's algorithms will decide other people might like the same thing and will show it to more people. So that is a huge help to creators!
Same. Recently learned these things trying to find more info on your channel when you last guided me. But I wouldn't pass up one of your videos no way, no how.
When life gives you lemons make lemonade. When life sends you snow, grab a big glass full and add some whiskey and if you want a whiskey Mac, add ginger and look to the horizon in contemplation while you sip it and enjoy the view and the cozy house. As another youtuber says, 'life is good'.
This was a helpful video. Thanks so much, I usually just play videos when they come into my subscription page. Never really took the time to investigate. I enjoy your channel.
Hi Beautiful Ariel, Thanks for another awesome informative video, many things I did not know thanks for the help. only thing I wish I could figure out is how to save the Amazon shopping link for you, so it helps you out and I'm there anyhow :) Thanks again I enjoy your videos, Hugs tell Grizzly hi :)
Hi so you got a Mr Woof good company for you i hope ,my Lord every time i see you its snowing by the foot we never get snow like this in Ireland maybe once every seven years we get a fall eight to ten inches where you get eight to ten feet ,keep safe paul
I am sure there's ways to do all the same kind of things on Kindle, iPads, smart phones, etc, but I'm sorry I'm just no help there since I never used any of them myself. I'm sure other people on youtube have done tutorials on those topics though....
What a great tutorial teacher you are :) I would like to see how to post someone's video on a group comment. I guess that would be like a copy and then post? If that's something you could show us, that would be helpful. Thanks Ariel.
Thanks! I'm not sure I quite understand your question though. How to post a video from youtube in a comment on youtube? Yes you can copy and then paste the link for which ever video you want into a comment. Though often youtube holds comments with links in them for review by the channel owner to be sure they are not just spam.
hey I learned a lot .. was so frustrating only watching through the suggested vids vs which you make in what order and I now too have the dark mode way better
Ariel. I truly enjoy your videos Many are very informative and generally all are inspirational. My problem is how to support your efforts. I've purchased photos and love them but I have only so much room. If you had your PayPal info listed I would utilize that. Patreon defeats me every time when I want to use it. So I'm a Luddite. Who cares. Help me out here. Do love your efforts and will willingly support them. And to help you put in proper perspective you are providing entertainment and info and should be compensated accordingly. IMHO and I'm sure many of your other subscribers.
Thank you very much. I had no idea before I started blogging and videos just how much time this stuff takes! My one friend teases me that while I may not have a formal job any longer, I still work ten hour days every day. :) I don't have a Patreon account, but I do use PayPal (ariel.c.mcglothin at gmail dot com) for several other things and if you are very comfortable yourself, support through there is always appreciated!
I found your wonderful photography website. They're amazing shots!! I just wish l had the funds spare for one or two but afraid they are way out of my prize range. I would encourage other subscribers to check out your website though, such magical photography. 💗
Oh right around 1 Mbps upload usually. On a good day sometimes up to 2 Mbps. And other days more like .5 Mbps. And about .5 -1 Mbps for the uploads. :)
Lol.. Grizzly probably feels that you are reading her a story. She is so pretty, I'm glad you have each other. Ariel, I've considered doing a TH-cam video channel on my being a single , older women 57, lol.trying to, step by step get ( Back To Basics) I may call it that :) off grid & growing my own food & would love to do just that and get my own tiny house by the time I reach 60 yrs young.lol..with my steps on the way....any suggestions or advice on that? And do you think there's too many doing that subject?
I think that would be great! There are people all the time telling me they would love to do something similar, but they are just too old. I think someone else older than me showing people that it is possible would be great!
Great tutorial - I watched to see if there was anything I could learn - interesting to see what a content creator sees about their own channel. One thing you missed is that on each video thumbnail you may see a red bar on/across the bottom of the thumbnail. That corresponds to how much of that video you've already seen (only if logged in), though it's not always accurate since if you revisit the video to (re)comment and it starts over from the beginning the red bar also resets...
Good tip. Though it's also not always accurate if your internet connection is spotty, youtube doesn't always keep up with knowing what you actually saw....
True. But when it is working right it helps to see that it's a video you've already seen, in case the title or thumbnail doesn't ring a bell... Such beautiful scenery, I miss so much living in a snowy climate. One of my favorite thing to do was be out in the hot tub while the big fluffy snowflakes fall.
hi ariel my name his daniel i live near montreal quebec canada just discovred your channel a short time ago i love your videos very interesting in all seasons bye for now
Well while I am happy to discuss anything with anyone in person, my channel is not about politics and so I try to stay away from that on here. But it is a safe assumption that anyone I watch, I probably find some value in. Though it's unlikely I agree with everything that any single person says or thinks. :)
You could, but maybe instead go for a TH-cam Red account? If you prefer to avoid ads. So the people putting out hundreds or thousands of hours to create the content you enjoy consuming can get paid and continue to be able to do their work. That's why I personally don't use any kind of ad blocker because I understand how much work goes into blogging and making videos and I want the people who make things I enjoy to be able to afford to keep doing what they are doing. Just something to think about. :)
This is why I encourage my favorite TH-camrs to sign up for Patreon or better yet, MakerSupport. TH-cam has no commitment to free speech, and will de-monitize, delete or put into limited state videos they don't like, often on the most spurious of reasoning. (Patreon is getting to be that way too, which is why I prefer MakerSupport.) I would rather use an adblocker and support content creators directly.
Thanks MajorSeventh, that is a good point. TH-cam is far from perfect on those things. And sure, I don't think any creator would object to direct support over ad revenue!
If going with satellite service was the only other reasonable option, you made the right choice. When I was living in rural NH, I first used a Verizon EVDO card in a special Kyocera router - kind of a precursor to current LTE hotspots. Then I switched to Wildblue/ViaSat/Exede satellite internet for many years. Then I switched back to using Verizon LTE/3G via my iPhone, as a hotspot for my laptop. Satellite internet is extremely sensitive to changes in the angle/azimuth of the dish, far more so than Dish or DirecTV. If going the satellite internet route, you want the dish mounted on an extremely stable mount, like a steel pole mounted in concrete down to the frostline. Even when satellite is working well (which it usually did for me), there is latency in the connection which caused problems with many websites; bouncing your data off of a satellite 22,000 miles in the sky and back to earth again is clearly not ideal. My worst experience with Exede came when I stopped service, many years after I had completed my initial 1 or 2 year commitment. They tried to charge me $300 for antiquated equipment, that I had returned, that I had a UPS tracking # showing they had received. Because I had closed my account, they blocked phone calls from my phone number (which they had on file). I finally took it up through USAA (my credit card account) and USAA made things right. I will never do business with ViaSat/Exede again - worst company I've ever dealt with.
Yeah, satellite was not only the only other reasonable option, it was the only other option period. And I really wanted to avoid them, as I've heard more than one story similar to yours.
Very true. I'm just always opening a new tab so as to not loose my place in whatever I am typing a reply to, so going to youtube first each time would just add a step for me. :)
hi, I tried to send you an email thru your channel, (I think YT has changed the format to send personal emails to channel holders and makes it hard to find or even use anymore) and the robot button comes up to click, I did, and still no way to send you an email. BOO
Hmm... I know using TH-cam's private message service is pretty hard to find, but you went to the "about" tab and clicked on the "view email address" button toward the bottom? That should give it to you.
Life in a snow globe with a napping puppy named "Grizzly" that's why I keep coming back. May I add, I really enjoy your thorough, honest and comfortable approach to tutorials. Well done and thanks again darlin.

Nice tutorial for a newcomer or a dyed in the wool TH-cam nerd like me lol! Thanks Ariel !

Nice video. Funny that I have a lot of the same subscriptions.
I was intrigued to see that you subscribe to Alex Jones, Tom Woods and Dennis Prager. Would you recommend that I check these out?

Verizon wireless hotspot.
