My husband and I watched the entire series tonight. We just happen chanced upon your videos on restoration as we were searching on how to restore mine. I have just started collecting singer machines my first just about 3 weeks ago. I was completely floored when I saw Kennesaw and Lost Mountain as that is where I lived for 38 years!!!. I drove all the way from Hiram Ga to pick up my Singer 66 Red Eye for Free in Philadelphia Pennsylvania which I named the machine “Freedom” since that first one a few weeks ago I have now a Minnesota another Singer 15-91. I just loved your series I cried at the end in honor of the lady that mended and made clothes on the machine. Mine are both treadles and I am making things on mine in hopes that my grandchildren will have an heirloom. Again thank you for your time and dedication for restoring not only furniture but restoring hearts. Video was wonderful

What a beautiful sewing machine. Lovely tribute to his mother. Love the history. I remember my grandmother and my own mother sewing on a treadle sewing machine when I was a small girl. My mother made all our clothes and she even made my wedding grown and three of the bridesmaids dresses. I am in the process of restoring her singer sewing machine cabinet. Thank you for sharing the process, I've learned a lot and veneer has to be replaced so I was very glad to learn from you. Many thanks.
Got a 1914 singer tredle 7/23/22 , and have really enjoyed the series. It has de-lamited in a few places but minor. Thanks to your video, I will attempt it. I was going to just make it a night stand, and even if I can't make it this beautiful, I'll do my best.
Thank you so much for your work producing these videos. I just received two old sewing machines, one that was my great grandmother's machine, and one that was from a lady from church. Neither was in as bad of shape as far as the wood cabinet, but I found so many useful tips and tricks. I had the confidence to get busy and the machines look so much better already. Loved the tribute at the end too.

I'm just starting my journey to refinish my 1906 Singer 27 treadle. I came to watch your video series to see how you handled the splitting veneer that was still surface good but the glue separated. I'm not disappointed. You did a lovely job. I plan to go one step further and refurbish the machine too. The old lacquer on my machine is pitted, crazed, and flaking off a bit. Since these machines are so common and hundreds of thousands were made, I plan on painting my machine raspberry purple. I'm even designing some new water slide decals with raspberries to go with it. The head cover had the raspberry design so I searched for a rear cover plate and found one to match it. I'm half tempted to get the front cover engraved with a raspberry since it's plain. I have been studying for many months on the various things I need to do. Where my cover had rusted thru the nickel plating, I found out how to redo that. I bought all the things I need to nickel plate them again. So, thank you for sharing your series. It has helped fill in the gaps in my restoration journey.
I see the appreciation you have for these classic pieces of American workmanship and I really dig the videos, brother. I hope I'm capable and competent enough to pull off a restoration myself. FINGERS CROSSED!

This was a great video series. I have my grandmother's 1919 Series 66 that I've carted around various houses/garages for 30 years and the wood finish was pretty badly beaten up, though the machine and its artwork was in very good shape. Finally got around to restoring it and Larry's tips definitely helped me complete the project. Big thumbs up.
My grandma had a machine just like this but I've no idea what happened to it. Thanks for sharing this lovely restoration with us. It brought back a lot of memories.
Beautiful job. It never occurred to me to take the cabinet apart as completely as you did, and because my woodworking skills are limited, I opted to paint it instead of removing the veneer. If I redo it again, I’ll be able to use your video as a guide to do a better job. Thanks!

Absolutely beautiful! I will be inheriting my great-grandmother's Singer Treadle as soon as I can pick it up from my mom's house. From what I remember it has an awful white paint stain (grandma used it as as step ladder - shame on her!!) After watching what a labor-intensive job it is as I have never done any projects such as this, I'm thinking about saving up to have it professionally done. Thank you for sharing!

I may have commented before but I wanted to thank you this tutorial. I am currently finishing up my restoration of this same type of Singer treadle machine. Your step by step was invaluable in tackling this project. As a sewist, I bought this machine at auction and unfortunately don't know anything about it's history or prior owners. You did an amazing job and I'm sure the family was grateful! While we replaced most of the veneer, the finish is not museum quality like yours - you are a true craftsman - I'm pleased with the results. I will use this machine with pride! A beautiful restoration, and a wonderful tribute to the memory of a family's loved one! I did a "soft" restoration on my 1904 model 27-4 that belonged to a great-aunt. It runs beautifully and I use it regularly!

I watched the whole series with fascination and truly admired your work. It brought back memories because my Grandmother had the same machine. In fact when you showed the photo of the original owner she looked very much like me Grandmother. It was uncanny. Growing up during world war two in England my grandmother and Mother were able to make clothes for all the family with that same machine. It was invaluable because of the acute shortages during the duration. So the machine was in frequent use. Congratulations for your patience and excellent workmanship.

I have this exact model and cabinet I just acquired to be used for sewing. The sewing machine is in excellent condition, decals, etc. The drawers are in great condition. Just the top and veneer in 2 places and under the table top needs work.
Good job. I think it is a shame that it will just be looked at and not use. I would have it wired with a motor and sew with it. Straight stitch do a beautiful job. The fact that this one folds inside the cabinet is a plus.

Beautiful piece of work you have done here. I loved to watch the series. Since a few days now I am owner of a nearly similar kind of antique Singer. I'd just began to restore whar I could with the minimum of my knowledge of this art. But I stopped to learn more about the steps before I go on with it. I just love this machine. But it is in a much worser condition than this one, you showed. It will be a very timeconsuming project, that I will go in a very slowly way. ^^
What a great video! My grandmother had one identical to it. My mom learned to sew on it, and I did as well. I hope to refurbish the cabinet because the top layer has started to peel back. The black lacquer on the machine is in good shape, but most of the decals are worn away. Would like to replace those, too. Thank you for sharing this series!
Beautiful restoration! I have my mother’s singer sewing machine overseas, my hope is to have it shipped to Florida and do the restoration. She bought hers in 1950, it has the drive belt but it needs to be replaced. It needs the same type of work.

Scares me to see such hard work ahead of me just to use the treadle machine I just purchased 3 weeks ago. Wondering if the one you completed will be used? If so, where can bobbins be purchased? Already have the leather cording for the treadle part. So very impressed with great video & narration for each one! Glad you did such a fine job on each part & piece, especially when you included the parts that were surprises & how you managed those areas, too. Wondering if the one you completed will be used? If so, where can bobbins be purchased? Already have the leather cording for the treadle part.

I have been patiently waiting for this video, beautiful job Larry, not only on the piece but the whole video series! Had a next morning quarterback thought, maybe after the veneer and before the finish you could clamp the collar in place, and then drill the holes?
