  • Hello everyone! I hope you enjoyed this video. Please be sure to give it a Like and Subscribe to my channel.
For those wondering, I went to ACLD Learning Center in Youngstown Ohio to get tested for my learning disability. A full range of tests were done and they provide you with a breakdown of all your results and scores. I only briefly covered the math portion in this video but the packet had a lot more information about other areas I was tested in as well. I definitely recommend their office!

I am late here but thank you for the motivation and sharing your story. I dropped out of university in 2012-13. I was a pre nursing major. Fast forward to now, in the last month I was diagnosed with a math learning disability at 30 y/o and now a mom :)Currently advocating for myself at work, since the condition has been affecting my job performance. It’s been a looonggg journey and it’s not over yet. It definitely takes a fighting spirit to push through. I saw another video titled “I graduated” congratulations on seeing things through and never giving up, you’re an inspiration ❤️

You are so amazing!!! I also have a learning disability with math due to me having seizures since I was 2 and I have a 6th grade math skill an I'm only 24. I'm about to start school again but for business and my mom is real nervous that I won't do good. You have given me hope that I will make my dream a reality, THANK YOU!!!!!!

i'm amazed you're studying to be an engineer despite having dyscalculia. you're clearly very bright and determined, you're a beautifully resilient young lady (:
i had to repeat my last year of high school because of math and physics and still didn't pass. i'll have some as a biology major, but not as much. it's really relieving. i have other lds though, which makes college a struggle to this day.
    much love (: x

Sometimes we people with dyscalculia have to brute force brain and just grab the bull by the horns and hold on tight.

In North America, math instruction is aimed at people with a natural talent for math; not for those who may have to mull things over before they understand. Also, teachers always think that their teaching is perfect, and they do not understand why students do not get it. They are plagued by the curse of knowledge.

I am on the same journey.
I didn’t do any math throughout K-12 because of my behavioral issues, and I had to learn everything in college.
I finally passed the first course of remedial math in my community college after three years of trying and failing. Now I have a 97% in the second math course, and I will be taking College Algebra next semester!
I am working towards becoming a software engineer and obtain a Computer Science degree, so it’s going to be hard but it will be so worth it!

Thank you so much for sharing! I have was diagnosed with a mathematics disorder, a few years ago, and have struggled all the way through high school with math. I have a dream to become a mechanical engineer and I am curious if you have any advice on what specific mathematic concepts to focus on and to remember as I make my way through college. Thank you!

The 103 and 79 is your IQ in those topics. there is also something called a "g score" on that document, that is your total IQ. If you retake the test now (bc you already got your AS) all three of those scores will be higher just because of experience and commitment to the field of science. Some LD are due to testing anxiety and medications or therapy can reduce it over time. That is one reason most schools ask you for updated diagnosis paperwork every few years because sometimes the LD diagnosis is not always permanent.

I need a textbook as well. You can read a mills and boon romance on the computer, but books that require deep thinking is not good for digital reading. I work as an educational assistant, and I suggested that students with learning problems need pen and paper for math, but I do not represent the stock opinion, so I am ignored, and the students struggle when they have to do pen and paper evaluations.

I’m not giving up regardless what people think! Thank God, for online learning! Im working on getting my high school diploma from smart horizon, they give you a calculator online.🤣😊🙏🏻💛

Got diagnosed with dyslexia too a couple weeks ago, and ADHD a year ago.. was already half way through my mech. ing. bachelor.
Had failed half my classes, gotten top and bottom grades at rest (thx hyperfocus..)
Used to go to all the math classes, didn't understand anything and just make me more stressed.. taking Calculus 1 exam again in 2 weeks, think I will do well. But only because I've studied alone, with TH-cam, NOT the book .I honestly CANNOT read it.
I make piles of colored cards with exercises and explanations useful for myself that works well...
Starting to the "disabilitys" as good potential to be a engineer, but everything is on hard mode, as have to find new ways to learn, as what the Uni is giving me, at least in math and physics does little to nothing for me. Also written exams crap as I misunderstand questions.
DAC, material science, construction, creative and practical classes are great.
Math however.... I hope I pass so I can just be done with it, my brain hates manual-by-hand calculations like a plague. I understand the conspets and graphs, but just the calculations are my own hell.

Where and how did you get your evaluation? I know of someone who may have this and is struggling with Math? Was it through a University, private? Did the psychologist who administered go over the results with you? Thank you and Godspeed. This is very inspiring.
