      ^why would your partner care about you spending half of your paycheck for your 20th guitar? I live in the same city as Ormsby, at our local music shop they had their own section for awhile. We pay massive overheads on US and UK Made music gear as well as just about everything else. So it was kind of funny to finally have one back on the rest of the world.

    I like the fact that it is so light weight. I have neck and shoulder problems in part due to playing heavier guitars when I was younger so I think you’re being smart by using something light weight. I would be interested in something like that with more vintage pick ups and a regular scale length.

      @@DMSProduktionsweight has nothing to do with neck dive, and I'd love to know where you got this info. I've moved to an 8 pound soloist, and a 12 pound km7 with a 26.5 scale length, from multiple 15 pounds dinky style Jacksons, I've noticed no major difference, except the lightweight soloist seems even more balanced, and never had a dive issue with that, the km7 or the dinky..... Then you can compare two similar length guitars that are lightweight..... Fender mustangs, Japan models come in at a little over 7 pounds with a short scale, with a newer Gibson sg, at 8.2 pounds, and a fairly short scale.... Mustangs have no neck dive, while the sg still has some problems. It's all the balance.... Much of the balance equates to having the strap holders placed in a great location.... It's all balance. It doesn't matter if a guitar weighs 30 pounds or 5 pounds.

    I feel like Ormsby are very much in the same category as the other random guitar builders that all popped up in the last few years. They're certainly held in high regard and fulfil a certain niche toolset. I wasn't a fan of the pickups in the ones I've played though. One was a production model and the other was a custom shop display model. The caparison I played was much more suited for what I was looking for. However Australia does very clearly make amazing instruments. My dream acoustic is a Maton JB signature model.

    • @williamkramer9731
      @williamkramer9731 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ormsby has been around for awhile, but they're starting to get more attention, because you're not going to get that same hand built quality without paying double the price elsewhere, usually, and to get a hand built with good sound quality to boot. That said, I can see were you're coming from with the pickups, for some people, and being they're one of the first heavily fan fretted companies, I can see where the lack of aftermarket pickups could scare someone away. Now allot of companies are following suit, with these multiscale, so I expect that to help popularity to grow, because brand like schecter now have multi scale versions of their high end American custom model pickups.

    • @Jopeymessmusic
      @Jopeymessmusic 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@williamkramer9731 Oh of course. The whole Ormsby thing isn't for me and that's what I was getting at. They're still obviously very good instruments, just with a few kinks to work on. Same as any company I'd imagine. And of course in my specific case, aftermarket pickups are one of the easier retrofits. I agree with you about their price point, very comfortable in that area. Compared to the others.

      Consider also that Blackmachine no longer are taking orders for new instruments. They still have a website but.....the last I heard in 2019 they were nearing the end of their wood supply they used to build their instruments and once they were out it appeared they were stopping production. I'm not sure if it was a "we don't want to build instruments with anything less than the best woods" (they seemed proud of their supply of over 50 year old wood) or if they just were unable to procure new suitable timbers for their production process. Or running a guitar business is a tough business. Also, demand far exceeded supply even when they were at full production. It's sort of like a parallel to what you see in the amp world with Dumble amps and all of the clones. Capitalism seems to do this kind of thing. How many companies build strat, tele and les paul derivatives? You get my point.

    I certainly am no expert on the subject, and as you mentioned Ormsby isn't the only company that filled the BM void, however it seems that the similarities between the two are a wee bit too much.

      @@KDH Perry Ormsby made it onto my personal Facebook block list for being an absolute dickhead over a design build I sent him. Told me I was an "elitist shill" a "paid troll" when I declined to go thru with my model design, after HE made changes that I didn't want made. He then relentlessly messaged me asking which brand I worked with, who I was being paid by, etc. when it was his ineptitude, lack of communication, and all around attitude that lost him my business.
      He made my guitar a bolt on (was neck thru) , and used house brand pickups instead of EMGs, and when he sent me pictures and I called it out, he made a huge deal about how inferior my choices were. As a customer, I don't care if my idea for a neck thru "makes the tone too dark" that's my choice, and you gave me the option during the design process. I don't care if EMG's are "too compressed" I like the way they sound, and again, you put the option there for me to choose, why criticize it? Just... stupid business practices like that.
      He got pissed that I ordered the guitar, and then charged back because it wasn't the guitar I ordered... like yeah man if you order a pizza and a burger shows up, you're gonna call the pizza place and ask what the fuck happened.
      Later I found out he couldn't make the guitar within his profit margins, because neck thrus are hard to make, so he cut corners hoping I wouldn't notice, all the while keeping the price exactly the same.
      Don't do custom orders with Perry, he's an absolute asshole and has a "my way or the highway" mentality that may work with manufacturers and employees, but it absolutely does not work with customers, he doesn't give a fuck about customers choices in any way. He wants to make the guitars he wants to make, and he wants to turn all the guitars he doesn't want to make, into guitars he'd rather make, because they're more profitable.
      I'd sooner buy a Gibson than an Ormsby.

    assuming your amp set up doesn't change from video to video, the tone of the SX certainly isn't going to be for everyone.
