I knew things were gonna get bad when they said in their game informer interview for BF3 that they were “lowering the threshold”. If they wanna improve the balance between vehicles and infantry, reduce the amount of spammy lockons and take away vehicle regeneration. Vehicle regeneration ruins balance. Having go get out of your tank to repair your vehicle or coordinate with a teammate to do so improves teamplay within the community and makes killstreaks in vehicles more satisfying. I never saw vehicles unless they were aircraft go on these huge killstreaks until BF3 dropped. Its hard to fathom that there is a generation of BF players who have not played a BF title without vehicle regen.

The main problem of the series has been the awful preservation of past experiences. Even with Activsion I can go and play the first CoD MP. With BF I can't easily access buying and downloading every BF title up to BC2. I mean even Ubisoft released World in Conflict with master server files for free as open source which is great. But I largely get the feeling that especially the Refractor era has a disdain to them where the BF3 where DICE & EA feel Battlefield "grew up" to become honored to become part of the Sports Bro/Casual water cooler talk (but of coruse recent years have massively set that back) and DICE/EA won't ever look at properly preserving the past. Honestly I'd be satisfied if BC2 and earlier all became open source (and wish BC1 was ported to PC in some form or manner) and let everyone able to play it as much as possible.
Still the problem with Battlefield's future is I don't know what it looks like under all the new people which brings to another point; it's very sad a lot of them eventually will not have even played BC2 with only BF3 being a familiarity to them. Sounds snobby and gatekeepey but I do wish anyone developing Battleifeld at least a taste in vast majority of BF games to get a greater picture of the series. Now with BC2 and earlier almost impossible to play online or getting a copy off we are losing gaming history to future BF developers at DICE and anyone else.

Yeah this is pretty spot on. The DICE of yesteryear has pretty much been completely replaced now. This is the fundamental problem with long-standing IPs, when over time new talent gradually replaces the old and fails to understand what made said IP successful and work in the first place. This identity crisis is nothing new to Battlefield, but with this massive changing of the guard between BFV's and 2042's development cycles, it's effects are now widely felt.
I also honestly have no idea how they plan to move forward with this series, it feels like they've exhausted every possible setting/theme, and that no new game will satisfy enough people to be as successful as previous entries were, especially after all the damage that 2042 did

You don’t understand how shooters operated back then. FPS was more about your aim, movement, and positioning rather than your loadout. Developing skill was the addictive part, not the unlock progression which is why Arena shooters were much popular back then. BF in its effort to compete with Cod, developed a more robust progression system. This jump is seen with BC2 to BF3. You stopped getting unlocks in BC2 after level 22.

It's a great setting as it could appeal to fans of both historical and modern Battlefield games, while also being alt-history which gives the devs creative flexibility on maps and such.
With the current Ukraine conflict however, and all of the political tension that comes with that, I think the window of opportunity for that setting passed. Any game with a USSR/Russian faction now and the implications of nuclear warfare would be deemed too controversial right now

The biggest problem is that todays DICE is not the DICE that made the good old Battlefield games. Todays EA is different now then they were earlier. Their design choices and priorities are no longer what they were. So if they were to remaster an old game, they most likely will ruin it with their now bad vision of design and gameplay.
Take 2042 for instance, the launch was bad and people compared it to the BF4 launch as it was just the same. But the 2042 launch and BF4 launch was quite different.
BF4 launch was riddled with bugs and performance issues, while 2042 was riddled with some bugs and performance issues, but mostly with design issues. So BF4 could be fixed, by just fixing bugs and improving network and rendering performance. While doing so with 2042, will still leave it with it's design issues which is an issue for us but not for DICE or EA.
DICE used to boast about their games having authenticity which they explained really well the difference between realism and authenticity. Authenticity has nothing to do with you being able to revive someone with some defibs or a syringe after that person being shot to the head, or that you could do the rendezook with a jet. It had to do that the battlefield felt real, that the action took place in a historically accurate or plausible location and situation. That the soldiers were accurate/plausible to soldiers to day, using camouflage that are accurate, with real weapons that looked and was named like the real thing. With vehicles looking and being modeled after real vehicles and so fort.
But with Battlefield 5 that was thrown right out the window, and that was continued with BF2042. I have no hope that they will go back to the roots of the Battlefield franchise, so any potential remaster will probably suffer because of it.
The new DICE and EA will feel the need to "update" the old games to "modern values" and that will ruin it.

  • @birdbrid9391
    @birdbrid9391 ปีที่แล้ว

i think a good battlefield sequel should implement game mechanics "in the style" of bf4, doesn't need to be faithful, just the general differences between 2042 and bf4 (player movement, etc.) - and then it should "remake" bf3 maps in the sense of having maps which keep the layouts of that game's maps but change up the theming. for example, keep the metro layout (fix minor things. kinda like bf4 did. ok just copy the bf4 layout instead in this case) but make it be, oh i don't know, a mall? whatever
the point is that clearly the new devs suck at making good map layouts, bf3 is remembered fondly for maps that played well, so just copy their homework and make it look new but play familiar+good. imo that'd be a winning, realistically feasible formula

You are constantly missing the difference between remaster and remake.
And about player retention for remakes... These games you mention are single player games. People buy them, play them, finish them and leave them alone until they feel like replaying them. It's not the problem of remakes and tbh it's not the problem at all.

Let's be honest, we all want a Mordern battlefield game with
    1. More factions like Euroforces / MEC / Chinese / Ukraine. I know the last two could be controversial but fuck it it's a war game.
That would play into ea's cards because they could sell skins for these factions a bit like bf5 where you could customise a few character
    2. Awsome guns and sound design. They could start with 10 weapons for each category and add every 3 months new ones. With that you can unlock like 10 camos with quests and the rest with transactions, Battle pass or with time litedt quests.
(accept Rocket luncher oll of these should be added in the start and balanced out during lifetime, so that the shit from 2042 does not repeat itself)
    3. all maps from bf2, bfbc 1 / 2, bf3, bf4 slightly remastered/updated with New maps for free so playerbase won't get splittet like older games
this would be perfect for us because this game would easily life for more than 10 years because the old and new content could be released like one map per month.
but will likely never happend because EA / dice won't make money out of it
    5. Own server with an updated bf portal arsenal to create some Competitive, Hardcore or funny servers.
    6. Firing range for new comers so they can learn to fligh all jets, helicopter and test all vehicles and weapons

To be honest, all i wanted out of 2042 was a well implemented and functional modern/near future setting game with BFV like gunplay and movement. I think a lot of the desire for remasters comes from the missteps of recent games. I played BF2, 2142, BFBC2, BF3, BF4, BFV.
When the TTK wasn't messed up in BFV Pacific, I was having fun that easily rivaled the times i had in 2142, i can't give higher praise than that.
2042 threw all the movement and gunplay away and went in a foreign direction artistically, gameplay wise, etc. I don't think they're ever going to make another battlefield game that will make me happy. I don't believe that's because I'm picky... I found the fun in BFV, after all. It's now one of my favorite games of the franchise.

    I don't want a remaster.
DICE has proven that even they cannot remaster maps or games if we take portal into consideration. It will be dropped the moment it performed underperforms as we've seen with Portal. If Battlefield is going down a bad route with recent titles (in the beholders opinion) and you're still giving them money because they remastered your childhood game. You aren't making things better; you are just making them realize that it is much easier to milk nostalgia than make better games and I feel that a remaster done by DICE would essentially be some mechanical abomination of old and new that never could and would work in today's world.
Also, technically speaking, 1943 was the second remaster. The first was the Vietnam WW2 mod that basically had better lighting, vegitation, and several changes to its class system (3/5 classes now had M1 Garands and Type 5s alongside pickup flamethrower). It felt like 1942 sure, but it was basically a tech demo for what the Vietnam engine could do to older games and going forward.

It sems to be an unpopular opinion, however, I Feel it has merit now - BF needs to become a persistant game / universe / however you want to describe it. IMO, BF (in the last few releases) has tried to reinvent the wheel which, for me, is the biggest impediment to the game succeeding. If the Game became persistant (and I don't mean live service) and there is a base game that is built on and tweaked over time, then netcode and tick rate issues would never be a thing, bugs would be minimal as they would be solved on each update; the game would have a foundation. Remakes / game modes (I'm talking the likes of BF1, BF4, Vietnam in the menu) would be a click away and take you to a server browser. Each new release would be a DLC.
This is what a Portal should be and should become. I wouldn't mind a store in there also for uniforms & weopon skins as I know I would be contributing to a community and the future development of the game. In the "Modern Gaming" world we live, my time is their desire and I would be happy to give it up. But not how they do it now.
The complexity of a new AAA release now almost guarantees failure on the current (and old) yearly / bi-yearly release model. It has to change and this is the only way I can see it happening.
I look at my time in BF and Warthunder now (SL debate aside) and I just wonder how much BF would benefit from this model.

My counter argument to this is that older CoD games, well, most of them actually, are limited in scope. You can spend a lot more time getting the infantry mechanics to feel like the original or modern, but Battlefield needs to take into account physics a TON more with how vehicles work. You could certainly get the weapons and armor mechanics to be accurate, but id still think no matter what, the feel of their movement would be very different.

    • @exxoooo
      @exxoooo ปีที่แล้ว

@@GravityBFTV A remaster would be something like Portal. They'd take environment and guns. But have the latest movement and engine. It's obviously not easy to do and requires time which explains why we have no new Portal content. We also had various issues at the start, with guns in Portal.
I strongly believe this wouldn't even help the franchise either. We need a new game or sequel which keeps players interested and retains player count. Remasters are boring after a few weeks, you've been there done that you know.

If someone says this to me, I'll just tell them if they love BF3/4 so much, then go and play them

Personally as a console player, I’d pay merely for BF4 to be playable with better server Htz and resolution.

Battlefield games shouldn't be remastered. For example if we take battlefield 3 reduce suppresion to bf4 levels and improve netcode to venice unleashed levels or better the game could feel completely different... And in that case it isn't bf3 anymore. The only thing that might be good to remaster is the maps...

They changed the suppression with like the last patch or second to last patch in BF3. Suppression at BF3 launch was like how it was in BF4. Dice decided to add random deviation in a subsequent patch

Ok Gravity how about this: Dice tries to "remaster" BF3 using BF4 netcode and engine. Then move the OG battlelog and server browsing in game, and add QoL features like being able to turn down the blue filter and the super bright sun and the option to add bots and a practice range map like BF4 to test all guns and vehicles. Easiest money of Dice life.

There is potential to this, but from my understanding, the engines of each game are slightly different, and this causes issues. You can just port assets from one game to the other. This essentially makes the "mix and match" idea almost impossible. What isnt impossible is to take the orginal game in its full form, and go back and continue to upgrade features like netcode and movement and fix bugs and add content....but you still run into the issue of changing things for the worse, or breaking the original feel of the game.

I don't think peeps want the games remastered, they want the maps remastered and brought into the new engines... although I do miss calling in an arty strike LOL

Is it too much to just support the old games? 2142 is near impossible to play now.

You made me sad. I wished we could get a BC1/2 Remake aswell as a Remaster of BF3 but I see that this is a bad idea. I can still play BF3 sadly always the same maps but still. I hope we will get a perfect BF someday. Which is set it modern day 2010s or 2020s with a conflict between US and EU against RUS and CH. And to be honest I dont realy want much new stuff. They should take the best Rush maps from BC2 and BF3. The best Conquest Maps from BF2,3 and 4. The classic weapons like G3, AEK971, Rex etc. which were in the games from BF2 till BF4 and thats it. I dont wont new guns, maps, vehicles just the gunplay from BF3, a bit better graphics and movement and only the best gamemodes Conquest, Rush, Domination TDM and maybe Gunmaster.

Console only players DESERVE BF3 as it was on PC. They simply deserve true Battleifeld 3. They only got a gimped version, and it was still great. If they ever got to play the real BF3 (PC version) their little console minds would be blown.
It's that simple. And for PC they could just include full RTGI and 8K support and above.
That wouldn't be much at all. Literally taking the PC version of BF3. Releasing it on PS5 and Series consoles, they're literally PCs now, so it would be easy.
BF3 does not scale well past 1440p on PC, the HUD is tiny as fuck. And at 8K it's invisible. The PC "remaster" alone would be worthy for having true HIGH REZ support. Add in full RTGI and even 4090 owner MEGA MASTER RACE owners would sweat.
They don't need to do anything else. That's it.

If you want an idea of what a remaster would look like just look at battlefield portals. It sucks and no one plays the games

  • @yoked391

bf3 with higher quality textures, no suppression, all maps, 10>60 tickrate, no way current dice could make a total remaster without it feeling and looking like crap, look at portal maps and guns, they are weird

    This makes no sense
When it is so hard an ridicoulus why they bring a new bf every 2 years ?
Instead of making a garbage new one just remaster an existing one.
I bet it is easy or why Activision puts a cod 4 remaster out as a add on ?
I mean it wasnt even the main game.
