Big Gipp Explains Why Ol' Dirty Bastard Was So Outta Pocket

  • In this video, Big Gipp, a member of the hip-hop group Outkast, talks about an experience he had with the Wu-Tang Clan in New York City. He explains that both groups were outsiders in the city and that they bonded over that shared experience. Gipp also talks about how the Wu-Tang Clan had a reputation for being banned and blackballed in New York and how Ol' Dirty Bastard's outrageous behavior was a result of feeling disrespected and overlooked. He suggests that this kind of behavior is a part of the hip-hop culture and that artists sometimes have to earn their respect.

      Because UMTV made an exaggerated, sensationalized headline that was not what Big Gipp said or implied. They could have titled it "Gipp speaks on Goodie MOB and Wu Tang's first meeting" and would have gotten the same results without the cap. Also Gipp has been on a tear towards Jay-Z and other Northern rappers so UMTV knew it would get clicks.

    As a born and bred Houstonian, The Wu and OutKast pretty much dropped my senior year of high school/freshmen year of college. They both were groundbreaking and I owned both CDs as soon as they dropped. Fun times but I think I've outgrown hip hop because there's no diversity, no lyricism and thot hop is what is pushed to the fullest. The 90's were fun times and good music!

      @@johnathanjackson6258 Yep every dude wants to be T-Pain, Drake or Migos while the females that get pushed are short bus thot hoppers! I used to know all the main producers specific beats and the region it came from as you stated. Even the radio would play De La Soul, NWA, Big Daddy Kane and Master P all in the same set. Now it's just gangsta drug rap all day everyday. No R&B in the mix either which probably explains all the unnecessary aggression!

      You called it “thot hop” well “HIP hop” has the word “HIP” in it and women move there HIPS during dancing and sex. And the beats that are used in hip hop make people want to move their hips. And the people that move their hips the best and the most beauty are WOMEN! So by your OWN POINT I have to disagree. I do not like females degrading themselves or men degrading women. But again BY YOUR OWN statement I have to disagree with you. You get what I’m saying?

    There’s always been a misconception about NYC not having love for down south that was not truthful because Biggie went to the OutKast BBQ in 93 before he dropped Ready to die and in 94 when he blew up! He always supported the south so did Gangstarr and a bunch of others! Too this day Cell therapy is one of my favorite classic albums from Goodie Mob! We not a booty shaking city and as for the Wu half of them cats are from Brooklyn and when it came out the Streets we rock with them. Rap A Lot was always around but mainly in Houston. Master P started making noise and all with Bout it Bout it in 97 and then Cash Money came out and took it further in 98. But even amongst all that, the ball was still in the NY/LA court. We were still reeling from BIG and PAC’s death during those years.

    The Wu is Hip Hop, Knowledge, Wisdom, Understanding, with edutainment, education and entertainment mix. New York who created Hip Hop, didn't want outsiders, cause look what hip hop is today, rap music that's is trash, yes the south is making plenty of money, however look at the ratchet trash you'll turn it into, when it got into your hands, and I'm from the South, but I love Real Hip Hop, the Real Music that's against the system, give out real Messages!! 85% of Wu Tang clan music, you had to go and read books to understand there lyrics!! The music made you READ, READ!!!!

    • @bluewave3417
      @bluewave3417 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      But New York created Hip Hop off the coattails of Southern artists and their music. Or did you think James Brown was from Brooklyn? The Golden Era of Hip Hop (1988 to 92) was built off Southern Funk and Soul music. The funky drummer himself Clyde Stubblefield is from Washington, Georgia. Do you know how many Golden Era Hip Hop songs sampled his percussion? Fred Wesley and Maceo Parker are from Alabama. And everyone knows the Godfather was from Augusta, Georgia.
      How could the South be outsiders when their music was the backbone to what most of the New York MC's were rapping over? And music is entertainment. Bigger words don't mean better rhymes. Sometimes yes. But sometimes its just a word salad with very little meaning. Hip Hop started as party music. It's great to get a message in a song. But people aren't trying to listen to a thousand syllables a minute on a song.
