When picking companions also remember character level, Aseri engineer might be better but is level 12 or 13 where the Khzuait knowing is only level 10. So if you want one out of the box and rdy to go then take, but if your spending a little time building them up check for level 10 or 11's.

    Also, every wanderer has a character profile, meaning if he/she is merciful and you raid a village, he/she will aproach you (informing you that you did something they didnt like) and if he is merciful, he is not going to like it, leading to even abandon your party. I think this is really important to be aware of.

      I do wish it was a little more strict when it comes to companion personalities and personalities in general, I think I remember in Warband they would fight amongst themselves if their personalities didn't match. So you would have to make sure you have them doing separate stuff.

    I've found another way to level up a companion's steward, medicine, engineering, and scout skills to be to make them a party leader. Even if they ultimately get captured when fighting some enemy party, just remake them a party leader after they are freed. You also do not have to give them any troops at all when you start them out. Just drop them off at a town or village by themselves, then make them a party leader. They'll go about recruiting their own troops before doing anything, which also increases their leadership skill.

    there is another aspect to the companions you forgot to mention. They have personality traits. Weirdly enough, the negative traits don't seem to do much (maybe not fully implemented? Oversight on the devs side). But the positive ones can ruin your day - merciful characters will raise a storm every time you raid, execute people or attack villagers, generous ones will riot if you don't pay your troops, honorable gets upset if you flee from battle and so forth...

    • @leohawk776
      @leohawk776 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The positive and negative traits will start to impact you when you make them your vassals and the like. It becomes part of the reputation, and it can make it more difficult to keep cities you have conquered in the future if you make someone with those traits the owner of a conquered city, especially if you are of a different culture. Positive traits make good vassals, especially if they are generous and honorable. It makes it more stressful, because the traits are an indicator of who you should give your cities to when it is time to build your kingdom, especially if you want to expand into other cultures. I've had cities rebel because I focused purely on ability and ignored the traits.

      Scouting can be leveled up quickly, trade goes up fairly quickly aswell. But riding on the other hand takes forever. Best way to level riding is in combat but the AI is stupid and it takes patients. like watching your companion taking 15 minutes to kill 3 looters on horseback type patients. Thats why its best too use a companion with decent riding from jump.

    As with Warband, I love the companion system in this game, but I kinda wish they would lean more into the racial specialisation of them rather than have the Aserai be number 1 at most things. It 100% should be an Aserai companion who's initially the best at healing, but I would argue it should be the Imperial scholar who's the best engineer (Because really, Mongol engineers better than Byzantine? What?). Then equally split the best scout skill between the Khuzait, Battanian, and Sturgian, but have their secondary skills match how those people fight; Scout horse archer, scout 2H and bow, scout 1h and throwing. Then I'd split the best stewards equally between Vlandia and the Empire, and have their secondary skills again match their kingdom's fighting preference too.

  • @yarriddevogelaere2005
    @yarriddevogelaere2005 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Something i feel is missing in this guide is the attention to their level as it heavily influences growth potential. For instance at 30:05 Dispossessed and horsethief have very similar stats, however dispossessed is one level lower, meaning you will have more focus and attribute points to allocate to relevant locations instead of them having been 'wasted' on irrelevant things. Especially in this situation where Dispossessed is about to reach lvl 16 and getting an attribute point. Now they both have 130 riding but if they have let's say 4 AP in endurance both, after the next level you can make it 5 AP in endurance for Dispossessed and their riding skill will very quickly get higher than the Horsethief one. I generally prefer low level companions so i can develop them myself.
    Regarding governors, that could be an entire video on its own as there are so many possibilities: governors that focus on loyalty, or prosperity, security and so on. I personally think that governors focussing on garrison are the most op. They can make both infantry and archers 55% cheaper in wage costs and cavalry even up to 75%. With the empire culture you get an additional 20% so cavalry in their garrison would only cost you 5% of the normal wages. You can just pump a city garrison full of elite cataphracts or Khans Guard and it barely costs you anything. Besides big garrisons (either directly or indirectly) lead to higher prosperity, security and loyalty anyway.
    Another benefit is that they need high combat stats like 1H, 2H, crossbow, polearm and riding, which are easy to train and make them useful captains or even partyleaders until you conquer a city they can govern.
    That being said, you don't necessarily need companions for that when playing campaign. Your brother, your wife/husband and sister in law can be 3 perfect governors if you select and develop them right.

    I have observed in my recent campaign that the trade skill of my caravan leaders hardly ever seems to influence the amount of profit they make, also caravan leaders with higher scouting don't get caught less by the enemy, at least not reliably. It is ultimately down to luck how good a caravan works out. I tend to get as many companions as I can and send them all out with their caravans. I also send out my kids and younger siblings as soon as they can ride and use a bow. Builds character, lol. When you have 9 or 10 caravans going that's when the money really starts coming in.

    I learned that if you hire a companion who just spawned into the game, you get to set ALL of his/her attributes and focus points, while their starting lvl remains unchanged. You can see an example of this when you do the Family Feud quest. The guy that's added to your party for the duration of the mission will have all his points unset if you check as he spawns in. It's not something to aim for, but you can get lucky, so always check your companion stats immediately after hiring!

    Posting on your most recent vid for visibility but this is a CK3 related question, do you have any videos on time management for beginners?
    I've just picked up the game on PS5, never played a CK game before but i've watched plenty of playthroughs and guides etc on youtube in the past to try and crack the code, so i've got a broad idea of some of the things you can do. I finished the tutorial, felt reasonably confident i'd taken it all in. I did the recommended opening gambits in terms of securing marriages and getting religious affairs in order, getting the opinion/claim ball rolling etc. But then I was kind of stuck, not really knowing what to do with myself. I realised I have no real concept of how long things should take, how much action/decision making is 'enough' before advancing time. Is there no way around it but to just throw your head at the wall until you can instinctually know when you're 'done' so to speak? Is falling behind through inaction or advancing too fast a thing or am I just paranoid?

    really wish they added variety to the companions, in the sense that they randomize their culture a bit for example the Swordsman not always be Aserai and, sometimes he can be Vlandian or Battanian just to be different on every playthrough. And the companions we have as governors or with a trading caravan should not count twords the limit...

    How do you assign companions to like horse, missile and infantry positions like it is for the older versions of the game. There used to be a shield in the party menu from what I understand you can clik onto and assign them a tier that put them in one of those brackets but was apparently removed in one of the updates which I don't understand why developers would do that.

    My biggest problem was the companion limited capped by clan levels. You can't properly run a kingdom with so few companions to fill governor and party roles. Meanwhile waiting for my kin to grow up so they xna be assigned to these roles is taking real hours of gameplay, i cant help but feel hamstrung by the clan level cap. I wish they didn't need to cap it based on clan level and just hiked up prices or made companion personality clashes more impactful. Until it gets addressed I'm using the mod that lets you set the new cap, but I wish these issues could be corrected in the vanilla experience.

    The best caravan leaders are the ones with good scouting, not trading. If they don´t have some decent scouting they keep always being easily captured, making you lost the money invested to create the caravans. With good scouting, they can always upgrade their trade skills while they lead the caravans without being easily captured by enemies or bandits.

    I'd stress the advantage of low level way more in the first part of the video. Unless you use a mod to reperk, maybe half the perks will be wasted. And characters with many skills across the board will have a high level and no longer advance that fast. So I'd look at the minimum number of wasted skillpoints and perks.
    But good to know lots of 2H perks can benefit polearm as well (or 1H), I'd normally pick only one of those. Imo one handed goes well with thrown (and shield) and crossbow (as they fire slower). Archers kinda need an extra quiver, so two handed makes more sense. If mounted I loved the glaive (but not sure if it's still good). Btw, if you don't give your companions a ranged option they'll behave as lemmings and might die. But with the captain and partyleader perks, a well rounded character seems best.
    I'd probably get mods to reperk, so not picking top high level companions may feel less like cheating. 😃

      If you own a fief, in the clan tab you can click the fief, then click Members, and have any unassigned companions or family members travel to that fief. But if they are running a party you need to disband that party first. If you can make armies, you can call them to your army.
