And: is this a rare whisky (bottle was a gift)?

I hate rum as well. Maybe I should take my bottle back. Before opening it. I was hoping for just the sweet fruity tropical fruits and banana. I would scare it would have the rum tinge and peppery spice. If this is the case 🤮
Why on earth should I spent 150,- on a 21 yr finished in rum casks? 21 yr poor maturation with at the end a little boost. It's better to go for a younger version of this kind of finishing. Or a proper maturation in good casks. And it's 40% abv chillfiltered and probably artificial colored. There is no need for doing that with a good 21yr maturation. Think before you buy. There are a lot of good alternatives out there for a better price

Its a really underrated channel
As in all things, its in the eye of the beholder. Its my favourite non Isla whiskey, the finish so long.

The Glenfiddich 21 that my local store has is a different release. It's in a big flashy orange box.
I heard that there was a shortage of Gran Reserva casks so Glenfiddich used Reserva casks for the ones in the orange box.
Ah ok. Glenfiddich have been doing some rather strange things lately. they've even done a whisky with an IPA finish.... bizarre stuff...

This is an unbelievable bottle, you will not be disappointed. They make another version that is in the orange box but that one isn't as good.

Usually Glenfiddich is pretty reasonable with its older whiskys.
