      my suggestion- you gotta' include and emphasize the liberal use of a TOOTHBRUSH on any bike cleaning/maintenance video. short of rebuilding a bike, it's the most effective cleaning tool there is.

      Howdy,
      How will this work with CeramicSpeed's ufo lubricant? Wouldn't this increase drivetrain friction?

      @@seanmccuen6970 I got you, but this is a kind of video, get done with the ride, you get caught in the rain. You go to work all day you come home and get ready for another ride in the morning. But you don’t have the time to clean it. Just a couple sprays will do wonder

    The best tool to dry off a bike after a wet ride or a wash is a garden leaf blower. Most people who live in a house probably already have one, it's super strong, inexpensive and it's got a dozen of other uses........such as clearing the leaves. A compressor also works but the leaf blower is much simpler and quicker if you already have one.

    Great info. Did a Centra Park, NYC ride this weekend. Managed to miss the raid riding but on the way home... BIBLICAL DOWNPOUR😮😢
    I did almost everything you did, but i also sprayed between the headset too and bottom and used the mucoff lube everywhere. I'm doing a coffee weight loss ride tomorrow, I'll let you know how she feels. BTW me and my trying buddy lucked into two Specialized Venge bikes, BEST BIGGEST we've ever owned. These were designed for Peter Sagan and every once of push is rewarded with 4ward motion. I'm SUPER impressed. They don't call them WORKS for no reason.
    Our original bikes were crushed by an inattentive driver, insurance company said get two bikes, we got lucky, $8700 for TWO S Works Venge.. God was looking out for us.🎉❤💪🏾💪🏻 insurance driver

    All good points most neglect. Well done on educating people on how to look after their bikes. I'd add hose the bike down if you don't have time to wash. There will be a fare bit of sand that needs to come off first. With the chain, you're not addressing the dirt inside the links that you haven't removed with a wipe. After your next wet ride, remove the chain, put in methylated spirits, agitate and see how much sand comes out. If you don't remove the sand, the lube will become a grinding paste and wear your chain out much quicker. Best to do a deep clean properly. Have two chains and rotate would be best. Cheers.

    • @GCPerformance18
      @GCPerformance18  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yea of course you could do a chain removal and dunk, but like I said this is something just for the quick quick, the chain with the wipe down of the spray lube should loosen a good amount of sand out of there, there might be a little more on there but honestly. it will work its way out, and this will get you buy and not have a dried out chain

    US Postal back in the day used ceramic bearings but they used the double sealed because of the longer time spent in the rain. The funny thing is that their mountain bike team used the non-sealed so when they are done they can just wash everything off and out of the bearings since they were only using them for a short duration downhill. Also ceramic ball bearings are more brittle and for longevity what matters is the race that encloses them is harder than the balls. Especially on bottom bracket bearings, I'd stick with regular bearings if you are on a budget and want the long term longevity.

    • @GCPerformance18

    What about inside the break hoods? We get a lot of rain in the uk, and when you brake, you do open a small gap up in the facing brake unit. I give that a squirt (gt85/wd40) every few rides in the wet.

    • @GCPerformance18
      @GCPerformance18  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Very nice I need to get some of that Muc off spray , this past Sunday I got caught in some wet streets and I use the chain degreaser from Muc off worked very well . I do similar things you do or showed in the video after rain and he also like to maybe take that rag and and clean off all the sand That has stuck to the frame the chain stays and everything I’d like to kind of clean all that off to if I really got caught in a bad rain and lots of sand and dirt and grit I’m just gonna lightly hose the whole bike off and wipe everything down and then I’m gonna start over with applying new fresh lube. Also to this past Sunday I have the ceramic speed standard size pulley wheels in aluminum of course and I have the loop and I just put some lubricant at The bearing axles. Thanks again Grant

      you can do that too, but like i said this is for some one who doesnt have the time, maybe got done with a ride had to get home shower and go to work and get home late, no one wants to washa bike off and let dry..... just give it a quick spray, there shouldnt be as much dirt or sand in the chain and wiping off the chain removes alot of excess

    Nice video! Helpful tips like this are always appreciated. Just wondering if the screws/bolts/etc in top-tier groupsets like D/A, Red and Super Record are better quality than Ultegra, Force and Chorus. I found that D/A 9000 components held up to rain and sweat much better than Ultegra 6800 - specifically the derailleurs. Not sure about the later iterations though.

    • @GCPerformance18
      @GCPerformance18  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes they are usualy top tier stuf will have carbon cages and parts and also titanium bolts compared to ultegra and force having just painted bolts or anodized, but they corrode faster for sure

    Hi, great tips. Lately in heavy rain my Giant TCR seems to accumulate some water inside the chainstays that drains out when the bike is tilted after a ride. I'm assuming this water is entering the frame around the seat post / plug under the bottom bracket area / front mech cable entry port into the frame, all of which are not perfect seals. Is this typical? Can this cause damage to the carbon in the frame?

    • @GCPerformance18

    any updates on your Velobuild 218? - I went ahead and just bought one anyways.... as I liked what you said about it and liked the look of it...My F8 BB housing cracked.... total bucket job! Pretty Piss poor from Pinarello considering the £5.5K I paid for it.... although I might have stood a chance if I had kept my receipt! But I didn't!! I didn't expect it to fail there though... It was totally rotten and the BB aluminium housing was totally rotten!! (which I ofcourse never knew about..) Then after some time I guess the carbon gave way and cracked! So, this 218 will do for me! I'm not rich anymore..But I am gonna swap over all my Dura Ace Di2's, absolute black ovals and my Lightweight Meilenstein wheels, so I reckon it'll still be an ok bike....

    While we are talking drive train etc, on my Roubaix 2022 I have the Nova OSPW on Ultegra 12 speed Di2 like you do, and the bike just will not go into the 11 tooth gear under load. It works fine in the stand but when it does occasionally go in at lower speed it rattles and is really unhappy. The limit screw is fully wound out so the pulley cage cannot be moved over anymore. Have you heard of this before or anything like it? The bike has been to two bikes shops to sort but to no avail. I’m really getting frustrated and annoyed with it.

      really? is the cage installed all the way into teh derailer? do you have it flush against the mech? then is the b tension screw done right, it might be too tight and maybe need to loosen up a little.

      @@GCPerformance18 Thanks so much for the reply. I’m sure the pulley cage is in properly and the B screw/ derailleur height is 6mm as per Shimano spec. I’m losing my mind over it and the bike is currently in my local bike shop again. I don’t want to remove the OSPW, because it looks amazing.

    My breaks are squeaking now. After just one day of riding in the rain... 🤨

      The rainwater does that. It brings all the car oils from the middle of the road and into the bike lane. And can cause contamination

    Who takes a bike to mechanic for chain lube?

  • @rolandbarwacz4589
    @rolandbarwacz4589 ปีที่แล้ว

    Lazy or not, if you are trying to advise others it is a bad idea to show them lubrication without removing the sand first. This way the drive will feel better or better without your lubrication at all!

      lemme ask you a question.....is this not better then riding the next day not doing anything if you got caught in the rain the day before? what the spray aresol lube does it is so fine it will move and agitate that sand and grit, this method right here is 100 percent better then riding in the ride and then not doing anything to your bike and riding the next day with the rain water and sand still on your bike, and you think that a simple hose is going to get off sand and grime from your lubed chain?, noyou have to get in there and work it off, either with a chain cleaning tool or removing and using proper tools, my rag method will wipe off the service sand that touches the cassette and chainring that would cause that noise and friction anyways

    spraying dirty bike is like taking dirty pants after the shower on... I hope none will follow this..wash your bike properly, and get it lubricated

    • @GCPerformance18
      @GCPerformance18  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What the hell did you even say? This is a quick technique to help you. Because a lot of people won’t even do this after riding in the rain. So they will run there bike in rain water and dirt for weeks before cleaning. Which that is more damaging. I am spraying, think of it as a keyboard cleaner. You are moving the dirt out of those places and the lube is working it’s way in there
