Having children without knowing is crazy to me.

Same. In my opinion, it would be pure insanity. When you're alone, it's your business, but when new life enters the picture, everything changes. You need to protect your child at all coast, so they don't get hd.

      Hi friend,
this is the most transcendental decision that you probably will ever take, so consider my opinion as the one from an stranger of the internet. BUT i recommend you to do it. As is the only way you have to face it and be prepared to it in the worst scenario.
Do it Not only for yourself. Do it for your beloved ones that are sharing a life path with you. It is a brave decision, it is scary but is the only way we have to stop next generations to suffer from it.
If you want to do it Consider to make it in a stable emotional moment as it can hit you hard and it will change your priorities and life perspective totally.
And one last thing, Life still goes on and doesnt stop. You just learn to live knowing that some day maybe you will develop an illness. Meanwhile you have to enjoy every litle damn moment of joy. Dont give up!
      Hope my words help you

At first I was upset about the running and falling. ( glad you have pads on...maybe a helmet?) Then I realized that everyone has the right to battle this disease....their way. I'm cheering for you!

I’d want to know even though I’m well past the age of childbearing. I’d want to warn my young relatives. They should get tested as well, to prevent having a child with the disease.

Hi Maria, you don't want to know ?
Is that what you mean ?.
Everyone has their own decisions to make ?
Chorionic Villus sampling ( CVS ) is a option for testing in utro.
Although the at risk person needs to be tested first.

I cannot imagine the burden of having to make that kind of decision. I do, however, think that if you are at risk of having HD and you want to have children, it is irresponsible to do so without getting tested. And if you do turn out to be positive, you should either adopt or have IVF with pre-tested embryos. You can't be blamed, if you didn't know, but it you know before you have children, I think that it is cruel to perpetuate HD.

If you can't imagine having to make that kind of decision, then you should not make a comment on what a person should or shouldn't do .
However, I guess you can't be blamed for that.

Yes. It is very irresponsible to knew and not doing something to prevent it get passed on to next generation

Do you believe in god ? 🤔
Do you personally know someone with HD or juvenile HD ?
So you are a very responsible person, and that gives you a right to make such a comment. 🤔 🙄

@@coraldell3091 Of course only a religious loony could possibly argue in favor of having the disease and still choosing to reproduce. God gave you a functioning brain (I'm assuming), please use it.

I cannot understand when there is a fifty percent risk with each pregnancy why these families "do what most other families do and have kids." There is no way I would put a child through that risk just because I wanted children. Now they can test the embryo so it is safe. If everyone tests before having children this disease will die out even if they don't find a cure. I think they will find a cure. At least they have pinpointed the gene. That's huge.

Why would you not get tested? Yes, it's horrifying, I can't even imagine how that day feels like..but knowledge is power. Maybe you think it's your business, and i can understand that. But it ends being just your business when you create new life. New, innocent, tiny human. Wouldn't you protect them from hd or jhd at any coast?
