I had a vgif officer run over the line when my brother in law was reeling in a striped bass on the james river , and the followed us with binoculars i ended up confronting them that evening and they finally left us .
@ agreed, with so much going on in this world, these buffoon's pick on the little guy. We are no longer living in a free country. Notice all jobs being created are government or state level, they are all after our money I don't care how nice they appear, it will escalate into more than just fish cops, soon enough. They will ramp up their authority and turn them into bounty hunters. Wonder if he checks out the big fishing dragger's along the horizon see if they are netting any under size fish.
My friends and family certainly have had different experiences. 1 example: When my buddies were 16 a wdfw officer ripped his car apart and threw his fathers fishing poles all Ofer the street, breaking 2 and damaging a reel. He was swearing and aggressive the entire time. He supposedly saw my buddy put king salmon in garbage bag and bring them to the truck. All he found was the wet clothes of my two friends who went swimming after they were done fishing. I also have had a wdfw Officer try and trespass us from public land. We argued for over an hour while showing gps coordinates and the regulations and physical maps of the area. Long story short, he walked away with his tail tucked. A lot are polite but many are not.
It shows that Americans do not respect the Rights of ForFathers fighting and who died for our Rights! Read up on the Constitution! We are starting to lose them because people are just not standing up for their rights anymore!
Very very good, very respectful and both treated each other fairly. Cop only doing his job and guy on the boat very cooperative. Nice to see.. big thumbs up from me
You should have acted like a sovereign citizen by not showing him your fish or license and reciting specific law codes because no crime had been committed and then spend a good 45 minutes continuing to refuse while requesting a supervisor, followed by an escort to the ramp where you would then meet other officers who would then arrest you. Why show him your license to make a routine stop quick and painless?
Now I know how John organises his cooler. Great idea to separate fish in a garbage bag, and make own ice with 2L plastic bottle. And he's probably thinking, this guy is a beast...not realizing that he just met John Skinner the fluke lengend lol. Nice video!!! Thank you for sharing.
Very respectful on behalf of John and the officer, great video by the way it helps our younger gen that watch this have a better understanding of how to fish legally and have fun doing so
I never mind getting my license or cooler checked. Good to see them keeping folks in line. These guys help protect our natural resources. Simple as that.
I was on my uncle's rebuilt 42 foot torpedo chaser when it was boarded by coast guard in Puget sound in 1962. The boarding was like a trapeze trick. They were checking boat licence and that there was a horn and fire extinguisher.
This post is generating a lot of interesting comments from many viewpoints. I'm curious if commenters' feelings toward law enforcement stops on the water generally differ depending on where they live. If people could add the state they're posting from to their comments, that might explain differences in opinions. Thanks everyone for their comments. OK, I see I need to mention something else because a bunch of people asked why I put a live fish in my cooler. The fish was cut across the gills and bleeding out in a water bucket when the cop interrupted me. It was hot out, and I wasn't sure how long the cop would stay, so I put the fish on ice rather than risk the meat spoiling.
I am out of WV. I don't mind these kind of stops. While the license and catch checks are intrusive and Constitutionally questionable, how else could compliance be monitored? And it does need to be monitored as there are people who will rape our resources if given the chance. So, I don't mind bending my rights a bit for that. ------- That said, where I do strongly object is when wildlife officers stray into other forms of law enforcement and use their extra legal leeway in ways that would be blatantly illegal in other settings. If wildlife officers want to be police, then their activities should be rolled into, and paid for by, the State Police or the equivalent of, and regular legal requirements such as "probable cause" should apply. And Legal considerations aside, within a 40 radius of my home there are 11 separate law enforcement agencies and that is not counting the Federal agencies. --add at least 4 more. That horribly inefficient, and incredibly wasteful of tax dollars. Our wildlife fees and taxes do not need to be funding (at the expense of legit wildlife projects) yet another general law enforcement agency. ------- To be clear, I am NOT calling for doing away with the DNR or equivalents. I am calling for their general law enforcement arms to be rolled into an existing law enforcement agency, back into compliance with the Constitution, and out of wildlife funding sources.
I'm a retired police lieutenant and you made excellent points. I often questioned how they could conduct searches where we needed probable cause to do so.
I dunno why this video has the dislikes that it does. It was a respectful interaction and as someone who’s never even fished before it was an interesting watch
I'm a police officer and a fisherman. I have some mixed feelings about these checks. We have creel officers in my state. They will pull up and ask what and how many you have caught and the size. They don't look at what you have caught. Other wildlife officers do just like this officer. This was a respectful check but I can't connect it to my duties as a police officer. We have to have a reasonable suspicion that someone has committed a crime to stop them in a vehicle. I understand boating is a little different but I suspect that fisherman's constitutional rights are violated regularly. I chartered a 4 1/2 hour fishing trip in Florida. About 2 hours into the trip, the Coast Guard boarded the boat and were on the boat for 1 hour and 10 minutes. When they were done and found no violations, I asked them if they were going to pay for a quarter of my charter, they thought that was funny. I wasn't trying to be funny. I asked them why they didn't do boat checks when the charters were returning and docking. They didn't really want to talk about it.
A1scooter1, I agree with your assessment, reasonable suspicion in this situation is "justified" because a line is in the water. That's all they need. As an officer, what happens when you don't get compliance? ticket? a ride to jail ? court dates and a whole lot of trouble. The system sucks for sure. I have a lot of respect for your chosen profession. Personally, I want nothing to do with law enforcement (until I need you) Lol. Be safe and keep up the good work.
I would have been livid. And likely hostile after 20 mins. It was what amounts to theft, you were stolen from. But was there some karma involved? Have you ever been professionally involved in a lengthy search, where nothing of interest was found, and maybe not returned the personal property back to order before you disengaged? Perhaps said something like, "That's your problem, bud." ? It is no fun to be on the receiving end of that. Please consider that while you are working.
If someone is driving a car, I can't pull them over to check for a driver's license. I have to have reasonable suspicion they have committed a traffic violation, or another crime. In my state it's legal to carry a weapon with a permit. If someone is carrying weapon, I can't walk up and demand to see their permit for no reason. I have to have reasonable suspicion they don't have a permit or have committed another crime. I've been a police officer for 30 years and when it comes to outdoor sports and armed carry, I think citizens's rights get violated regularly. I have been careful for my whole police career not to. Just because someone is seen fishing, it is no reason to think they don't have a license.
Turb0 Draw - Engaging in a legal activity like fishing doesn't qualify as reasonable suspicion or probable cause. Otherwise you could say driving could be probable cause for any activity that could be related to driving or be done while driving, same thing for pedestrians. Essentially there would be no 4th amendment protections for anyone. Even sitting in your house could be used as a reason to search your house because you could be doing something illegal in your house. A law enforcement officer needs to observe some sort of illegal behavior in order to be justified in a stop or search.
I've never even felt the need to lie on a report. Never had any direct knowledge of another officer lying on a report. I've been involved in the arrest of other officers. Police are no different than non police, they occasionally commit crimes. It is much rarer than you might think though. I have had lengthy discussions with new officers concerning constitutional rights. Especially when it comes to gun rights. There is nothing special about me though. Most officers are just like me. The last 20 years of my police career I haven't worked in the capacity of traffic control. I think out of every 50 stops I had when I did, I probably wrote about 3-4 tickets. The rest got a warning. So yes, I have stopped officers speeding but never wrote them tickets. They got a warning like almost everyone else did. Most of the few tickets I wrote were to people that I stopped for violating a traffic law and then found out they had no license or registration or insurance. Again, I'm no different than most officers.
Everyone complaining about unlawful stops. Who cares? If they didn't do these random checks, people would be poaching/exceeding the limit until there were no fish/game left. Yeah it's your natural right to hunt and provide for your family, but you have to be responsible about it or there will be nothing left for your grandkids. As long as the cop is fair and respectful, who cares if he stops to check in on you? Just be polite and get on with your day. He's helping you in the long run
I wouldn't think your average john doe fisherman would cause the lakes and oceans to dry up. Huge fishing boats and the corporations that run them on the other hand.....
President Camacho and thats why regulations need to be in place, of course to some random person t wouldnt ‘seem’ to be a problem. Its the same as the mentality of “im just one person, if i do/dont do x it wont make a difference” but when a large majority of people have that mentality, it does indeed make a difference
This sort of thing isn't as effective as the peer pressure we put on one another. Most of the time they don't catch the offenders because they're too busy checking people who follow the rules. You should care that the government is wasting your time, money and freedom to put on a show instead of working harder at actually finding violators in the act.
I don't fish (yet). But I recreational boat near Clearwater FL. Each season I check and double check my safety gear. I also get a courtesy safety inspection by the USCG auxiliary. I have been stopped twice by Marine patrol. Both times they were courteous and polite. Now they recognize my boat. Just give me a friendly wave. No more stops
I happy that you didn’t overreact to the questions he had for you! With all the talk going around lately, I think a lot of people in your position would be uncooperative and rude.
You payed taxes on the boat, , payed to register the trailer, bought a permit to put the boat on the water, taxes on the fuel for the boat, had to buy a license to fish. Then, your taxes pay for the salary and all the equipment the fisheries guy has to have to come and check your compliance. Sheesh! Government has their fingers into every square inch of our daily lives.
Very true. I once heard a comedian talking about how government has their fingers in everything. He challenged the audience to find something they're not involved in. Somebody yelled "SLEEPING!" and that was debunked because the mattress you sleep on has a tag that says "do not remove under penalty of law"!! Pretty funny.
They are just checking. US government is the best government ever in the history of the civilized world. You have to compare it to other governments and see the difference. Try fishing in Europe. You need 10 different licenses for every arm of the river and the lake.
Dont forget taxes on what you earn in the first place and taxes on pretty much everything you buy. Giving over 50% of your money to the state to pay for people to take your money
I had just refurbished an old Lund boat, everything. Added lights, fixed trailer - new bearings, new safety equipment, license plate and fishing licenses. Had my son and father-in-law from out of state (we were in FL) and we had been fishing for several hours on Lake Manatee. We were all loaded back on the trailer, tied down and hopping in my truck, when a FLDNR pulled up. He began with the pleasantries; "any luck today?" etc. Then his partner stepped out and by golly, they did a 100% full inspection. Coolers, ("been drinking?" - yeah...water!) life jackets, throwable device. Even asked if I had a fire extinguisher and I told him that the law does not require for under 15hp - mine was 7.5 - BUT! Yes. I did have one. Asked if I had any signalling devices. I showed him my working running lights, a flare kit and he said, "do you have a whistle?" So I put my two fingers in my mouth and let out a warbeling 'coach-whistle' shrill that made him laugh - but said that really wasn't counting - and I told him, 'but I had the flares and I only need one of the two and what the heck - I can 'create' the 2nd if needed. Long story long, after finally checking our licenses - even though we weren't fishing and didn't have any fish on board - he gives me a 3" round FLDNR Safety Inspection sticker - told me it was a collector's item because he doesn't give many out - he mostly gives out tickets (laughing...I wasn't). All this took over 45 minutes and we were hot and just wanted to get going and get the AC turned on!
Good deal! I personally love to see the DNR out checking for violators. I know that we definitely need more of them on the rivers here in Michigan! Great video brother
Nice video John, just goes to show that when you do things right there are no issues with the authorities. Nice to see good, law abiding folk doing what they love. Good job
I’ve been a avid fisherman for 35 years and think it’s absolute insanity how many times he has been stopped and checked! And NO, the recreational fishman CANNOT harm the fish population. Period
This happened to a buddy and I at Lake Scugog near Toronto. They just asked for licenses, boating safety kit and if we were drinking. (not). Lasted 10 minutes.
Great fishing John! And great conditions that day. Seemed like a very friendly law enforcement officer... not always like that in south Florida unfortunately, but it does get pretty busy often for the LEOs. That was a very quick and simple check.. thanks for sharing. Regards,
Lived off a canal by Jones for several years. I wanna say back in 2012, 2013 we were slaying massive stripers and fluke. Didnt catch much more than shorts for a few years, last time I went out before I moved back out west I caught a 12 pound fluke right in my favorite old hole and a 43 pound striper that same afternoon after the finder started marking like crazy. Bunch of small blues being chased by some cows. Threw a few bunker spoons out and my buddy nailed a 35 pounder right after my 43. Hell I remember one year dropping for stripers under the bunker we wound up with 2 Threshers. 1 200 pounder and another 340 pounder. Brought up on 30 pound test and striper rigs. Striper took my bunker. Thresher took my striper. Caught a blue out in Montauk that may have been a record. Sob bit a 25 pound striper clean in half got him on the second go, got up to the boat and he bit the line right as we were gonna gaff him. Man I miss living out there. If my buddy is still fishing commercially might see if he needs a mate over summer. I miss that place...

@@stoicvibesonly peace officers need to get over themselves and their ego/pride. be weary of anyone who talks about respect, because it's often subjective and meaningless. you'll notice it's the person who thinks they're in charge who keeps talking about respect. disrespect is not a reason to abuse your authority -- which is actually a crime. google "contempt of cop." the supreme court said police need a thick skin otherwise they're not right for the job. expect to be insulted and disrespected in any law enforcement capacity. it's just part of the job.
The SS also said they were "just doing their job" too. By your own logic, that means what they did to the Jews was okay. Also, the founding fathers of America broke the law and disrespected Britain to form the United States. Should they have just been "respectful and reasonable" to British law enforcement? Great fish thanks. In nz we put a few gallons of salt water into the bin with the ice bottles or salt ice . A slurry chills the fish down much faster. We also learned from the Japanese how to iki jimi the fish makes them better eating. Love the lures you used thanks
If by almost be a lawyer you mean be able to spend 10 minutes reading and following the directions on a single sheet of paper then yeah I guess. Law school takes what like 15 maybe 20 minutes?
I have different laws on the great lakes, no seasons, no size limit and a bag limit of 100# a day. Pretty simple tbh. I never even come close to that, I don't wanna clean that much fish honestly. Also I don't net and I don't spear, only rod and reel and I'm even getting away from bait for more of a challenge.
you have to be a lawyer to do anything, build a barn, collect rain, own pets, own firearms, fishing, travel with fruits and police have the nerve to ask are you a lawyer? i might as well be at this point
Ive been checked one time in my 22 years of being alive and all he wanted to talk about was fishing and even had advice on how to catch some big ones..
Agreed. Some people just don't respect wildlife. If you're going to eat it and it provide sustenance for you, the least you could do is kill it or at least leave them on a stringer in the water. Some fisherman annoy the shit out of me the way they treat fish, you wouldn't take a wounded deer home without finishing it. This land and its oceans are to be respected. Without it we would not live.
@@aussierule Yeah i really dont understand this guy. Even if the video was supposed to be funny or something, the fish just pissed me off too much. I always kill the fish by hitting on the head and letting the blood come out under the head by cutting the string under its head. Its even illegal here to not to do that.
Before placing the fish on ice, we cut the gills to bleed it out. This preserves the quality of the meat better, and the fish die quickly. The one you saw in the video had just been cut across the gills to bleed out. When the cop interrupted me I wanted to get it iced because I wasn't sure how long he would stick around and it was hot out and I didn't want the meat to spoil. We do not bash fish over the head here.
John dont listen to the assholes they see part of a video and think they know the whole story. Idiots always think their superior, yet are way behind the curve, lol
Been operating and fishing the coast of New England for 30-plus years. I've been stopped and boarded a handful of times by Federal and State Fisheries, State Police, DCR, USCG and Harbor Masters. Every contact went well... they were polite, stated their business and after exchanging papers and pleasantries they were on their way. A few times I was in the wrong and after a couple of words of caution I received a warning citation. The water cops have a job to do and many lives they have saved off the coast of New England far outweighs the occasional bad encounter. Fish lawfully, have the boat squared away, have your paperwork in order and be courteous. Your encounter will go well and be over in minutes.
Now that's how you talk to a police officer. Respect, understanding, to the point and friendly. The officer didn't bother checking the fish very closely because there's no friction between them. Always talk to police like this they have a job to do.
I know in Florida you need a license for saltwater and freshwater, and purchasing the license gives consent for FWC officers to boat your vessel and open your coolers.
@@stevewilliams4777 If you are fishing and FWC comes up to check if you have a license, if you do they have the right to search you because having that license gives them the right to search. If you do not have a license, you are breaking the law, and that gives them probable cause to search you. You get a fine and could lose your gear, and definitely lose your catch. If you don't pay the fine, you go to court. If you don't go to court, you get a bench warrant and could do jail time. Freshwater and saltwater is $17 a piece, combo is $32.
Love the video! Coutesy....the lost art. He has a job to do, both were respectfull, and a couple of minutes.....you are done! Fish are being protected and the fisherman got to brag a little! Well done!
Just subscribed and I think its good that there are people out there checking and enforcing the law. If you are doing what you should there is nothing to worry about. Thanks
Why don't fishermen dispatch of catch properly and humanely instead of just chucking them in the cooler to suffer? I am guessing I will get a lot of bad reaction to this but hoping that it might change some peoples actions.
I have tried to think how that could be and couldn't think how this is anything to do with hygiene. I am missing something then will gladly retract my criticism or suggest an alternative.
+calvin crane Okay so Fish is slimy. Fish can have parasites. So if you do not take out the guts after killing the fish you risk having parasites all over the flesh. This is pretty disgusting. The parasites try to leave the guts when they realize that the host is dead. The other possibility is that you kill the fish and gut it directly. But your hands will be sweaty and dirty, the fish is slimy so you risk that the flesh is getting disgusting. Also its time consuming and you lose time to fish. Another reason is that some fish taste like mud if you dont let them swim in clear water for a few days. Carp for example. So there are your reasons why it makes sense to kill the fish at home. Btw, i am also against putting them in a way to small container, but like I said it makes sense to keep them alive for a while
I think it's thin- your argument on hygiene. The best argument is the time consuming one but I would prefer to take the time to respect the fish that gives me the sport. The ice in the box prevents flesh or deterioration from occurring. Cmon guys respect your fish.
Hi Calvin. Where I live/fish, the Northeast US, most people ice their catch in a cooler immediately after catching. Some of us bleed them out first, as the fish dies faster and the meat is of better quality by getting the blood out. Could you tell me what country or state you're posting from? When I was out fishing today, with several very experienced anglers, no one knew what a "priest" was, and that's been mentioned several times in the comments. Thanks.
I haven't been stopped once by anyone in the last 2 years in the Ft. Pierce Inlet which is right next to the coast guard. Now I'm going to make sure everything is up to date and working in my boat so If I get pulled over sooner or later I'm prepared! lol
Always nice when DNR comes alongside, hassles you, questions everything and scares the fish away. Yes, I know it’s their job to be nose and lie to you but it ruins a good day fishing. Same is said for traffic cops.
Questioning Everything Then you’ll stop, since you asked him. Use your head. If he wants to record he will record, if he asks, he is probably fine with a no.
Im not much of a fisherman, but I grew up in a heavily fished area of NY on the water. The DEC/ coast guard / police were always pretty good to the fisherman. Just show them your license and catch within the limits and you were done in 5 minutes. The DEC would rarely stop people on the water, instead parking at the marinas or boat launches. It was actually the beach goers that the agencies were more hostile to
My man you need to learn how to kill those fish humanly. 1) Hit the head, bleed it out Or 2) Poke the brain, scrabble it When a fish is put in an ice box to slowly run out of oxygen its body goes through changes releasing chemicals like you would if i covered your mouth for to long. These chemicals break down the meat and blood soaks internally with latic acid. Conversely if you kill it after catching it the blood runs out leaving clean meat with no lactic acid, as well as other chemicals not being released into the muscles, plus not using the o2 reserves in the fish. 1) The fish will taste way better 2) Itll keep noticeable longer
not that I'll be in my own boat soon, this video still is good to see for me to know I've better be a good fishermen and have my credential ready, limits and catch lengths in check. thanks for sharing.
woohunter1 When you can’t naturally feed yourself on the planet you were born on without giving some people the “cut” they believe they’re entitled to, then you’re not free. Freedom is the absence of being ruled. It doesn’t matter how “scary” that might seem to someone like yourself. If you’re ruled, you’re not free. Environmental police are the best as long as ur legit I’ve never seen a disrespectful officer
They're just working. They're probably the coolest people you'll ever meet. Not to mention they know every best fishing spot.
Never disrespectful really, but I've encountered some guys having a bad day or something. Put you through the wringer, grill you on everything.
Great video. It’s nice to see a fisherman cooperate, it shows you respect the resource and what enforcement is doing.
It shows that Americans do not respect the Rights of ForFathers fighting and who died for our Rights! Read up on the Constitution! We are starting to lose them because people are just not standing up for their rights anymore!
These comments are great. John needs to get boarded by the cartel next to complete the “Boarding with John Skinner” series
EliasVFishing 😂
EliasVFishing yes lol
Very very good, very respectful and both treated each other fairly. Cop only doing his job and guy on the boat very cooperative. Nice to see.. big thumbs up from me
You should have acted like a sovereign citizen by not showing him your fish or license and reciting specific law codes because no crime had been committed and then spend a good 45 minutes continuing to refuse while requesting a supervisor, followed by an escort to the ramp where you would then meet other officers who would then arrest you. Why show him your license to make a routine stop quick and painless?
Taser! Taser! Taser! ;-)
Haha
Ignorant post.
Are you serious? Have you ever experienced someone using sarcasm?
I seriously doubt it...
How would a sovereign citizen handle this?????
"I am not fishing... I'm procuring fish. Fishing is for Commercial Fisheries, I'm a free inhabitant."
Hahahahah and she isn't driving the boat shes traveling.
damn pirates harassing innocent boat captains
The best way a sovereign citizen could handle any situation is by killing themself
They're maritime citizens lol
@@brad7566 nice job liking your own comment there bud
Refreshing to see the way you both dealt with each other. An example to be followed. Thx for sharing.
This guy sounds like he could be swagger souls dad
Very respectful on behalf of John and the officer, great video by the way it helps our younger gen that watch this have a better understanding of how to fish legally and have fun doing so
I never mind getting my license or cooler checked. Good to see them keeping folks in line. These guys help protect our natural resources. Simple as that.
@Zu Qu hello commie
I was on my uncle's rebuilt 42 foot torpedo chaser when it was boarded by coast guard in Puget sound in 1962. The boarding was like a trapeze trick. They were checking boat licence and that there was a horn and fire extinguisher.
Me: well let's see what TH-cam has for me now
TH-cam: hey you wanna see a fisherman's video even tho you have never seen one before?
Yeah, but don't watch a single prank video or that's all your suggestions will be. LOL
same here lmao guess we still clicked on it so youtube must be on to something

-------
That said, where I do strongly object is when wildlife officers stray into other forms of law enforcement and use their extra legal leeway in ways that would be blatantly illegal in other settings.
-------
To be clear, I am NOT calling for doing away with the DNR or equivalents. I am calling for their general law enforcement arms to be rolled into an existing law enforcement agency, back into compliance with the Constitution, and out of wildlife funding sources.
Edit: " 40 *mile* radius "
John, there will always be those who hate cops from any agency...until they need us. Thanks Obama!! #MAGA
I'm a retired police lieutenant and you made excellent points. I often questioned how they could conduct searches where we needed probable cause to do so.
B Stav you were a criminal. The fact someone authorized your behavior doesn't make it moral, or
Ok, and I think you know this.
This is a good example of how things can go great when everyone is being respectful
Mutual respect from both sides makes for an easy quick check and back to fishing.
Nicely handled John, respect goes both ways with decent guys 👍
Gotta love the man for doing his damn job. Respect the law and the officer
Well said....do you think others will still understand this well written explanation? Hahaha.....Really, good text.
President Camacho lakes and rivers would absolutely run out of fish. Most of them are restocked every year just to sustain a fish population
This sort of thing isn't as effective as the peer pressure we put on one another. Most of the time they don't catch the offenders because they're too busy checking people who follow the rules. You should care that the government is wasting your time, money and freedom to put on a show instead of working harder at actually finding violators in the act.
that’s how it’s supposed to be done, respectful sportsman and respectful office nice video
Fat coolers and fat wallet mr skinner is not going hungry these days good job john
Heck yeah
lo!
I always enjoyed being checked by D.E.C. , have gained some local knowledge and hints from them !
Thank You, for being respectful to the warden and taking fish that were legal.
need more people like you in this world
You happy now youtube. This recommended video bugging me out for a week lol btw great video
I appreciate how respectful you were to the officer. That is how it should be done.
Bootlicker
You payed taxes on the boat, , payed to register the trailer, bought a permit to put the boat on the water, taxes on the fuel for the boat, had to buy a license to fish. Then, your taxes pay for the salary and all the equipment the fisheries guy has to have to come and check your compliance. Sheesh! Government has their fingers into every square inch of our daily lives.
Carter Bila and yore a gud spellar!
Very true.
I once heard a comedian talking about how government has their fingers in everything. He challenged the audience to find something they're not involved in. Somebody yelled "SLEEPING!" and that was debunked because the mattress you sleep on has a tag that says "do not remove under penalty of law"!!
Pretty funny.
And people say its a free country....lol
Wow! Losing 45 minutes would be annoying.
Good deal! I personally love to see the DNR out checking for violators. I know that we definitely need more of them on the rivers here in Michigan! Great video brother
Haha i love when you went to hand him the fish he was like you can keep them on the boat... he didn’t want to slime up his boat lol. Great video John!
Nice video John, just goes to show that when you do things right there are no issues with the authorities. Nice to see good, law abiding folk doing what they love. Good job
Nothing like a bright sunny day n a cooler full of freshly caught fish 👌
I’ve been a avid fisherman for 35 years and think it’s absolute insanity how many times he has been stopped and checked! And NO, the recreational fishman CANNOT harm the fish population. Period
That seemed like a very casual and easy going inspection
Now he's going to tell all his friends where to fish "SPOT BURN"
This happened to a buddy and I at Lake Scugog near Toronto. They just asked for licenses, boating safety kit and if we were drinking. (not).
Lasted 10 minutes.
Damn again? They just want to be in a John Skinner video!
Eh even if this happened daily I wouldn't mind it. I mean the whole interaction took like what, 3 minutes?
before was the coast guard tho not the same
That's what he probably wrote down on his pad when he asked about the camera like "confirmed, its him. I'm gonna be youtube famous"
what are they gonna harass him every time they see him?
Great fishing John! And great conditions that day. Seemed like a very friendly law enforcement officer... not always like that in south Florida unfortunately, but it does get pretty busy often for the LEOs. That was a very quick and simple check.. thanks for sharing. Regards,
Its perfect i wish we had that kind of patrols on our seas too. Because sensless hunters leave no fish on our seas.
I wish I enjoyed fish. It's so cool you can just go out and catch your own dinner.
bobo42024 u can still hunt
Fishing is a nice activity, but sadly, I don't enjoy fish, so I just put back what I reel in. Not a vegan or anything, I just don't like fish.

Hello John great fishing video I fish alot off shore off of Tybee island ga. And I really want to try to do more flounder fishing. The question I have is what's the best tide and bottom to fish for them.
We have alot of inshore creeks and oyster beds. And again thank you for all your hard fishing videos I really enjoy watching them
Glad this came up in my recommended... No idea why. But I watched it all the way through ...and ya. Good times.
And this is how you deal with this situation. Be respectful and reasonable. Life is easier that way. He is just doing his job.
it's not a crime to be disrespectful.
@@u235u235u235 never said it was a crime, but see how far that gets you in life.
@@stoicvibesonly peace officers need to get over themselves and their ego/pride. be weary of anyone who talks about respect, because it's often subjective and meaningless. you'll notice it's the person who thinks they're in charge who keeps talking about respect. disrespect is not a reason to abuse your authority -- which is actually a crime. google "contempt of cop."
the supreme court said police need a thick skin otherwise they're not right for the job. expect to be insulted and disrespected in any law enforcement capacity. it's just part of the job.
The SS also said they were "just doing their job" too. By your own logic, that means what they did to the Jews was okay. Also, the founding fathers of America broke the law and disrespected Britain to form the United States. Should they have just been "respectful and reasonable" to British law enforcement? You're idolizing big government by not keeping law enforcement in check.

It’s simple... always be licensed, know the laws, obey them, cooperate with authorities and just you will forever have a great time! Good Job Sir..
Austin M Or more than likely to the ignorance of yours. The cop is well in his rights to do what he is doing in the video and for a very good reason as well.
Great fish thanks. In nz we put a few gallons of salt water into the bin with the ice bottles or salt ice . A slurry chills the fish down much faster. We also learned from the Japanese how to iki jimi the fish makes them better eating. Love the lures you used thanks
2:27 should have expected it but I have nothing to do with fishing I mean I came here by recommendation like everyone else.
Hey John, when asked if you got them on the incoming tide, you should have told to read your book and where he can buy a copy. 😆
You almost have to be a lawyer to go fishing
Cascadian Nationalist that’s the sad truth right there
I can't believe how extremely nice he was
John is your boat name size doesn't matter or boating while intoxicated? There always stopping and checking in on you!!
Ive been checked one time in my 22 years of being alive and all he wanted to talk about was fishing and even had advice on how to catch some big ones..
What about killing the fish before putting them into the cooler?
in germany it is your mandatory to kill the fish after catching.
What a friendly interaction, i loved watching this :)
A man that uses cash.
Much respect.
Great interaction between a man doing his job and another man obeying the law. Perfect!
Cop was fishing with no bait!
When do we get to see 'Somali Pirates Boarding - Give me your passport!!'
Now that's how you talk to a police officer. Respect, understanding, to the point and friendly. The officer didn't bother checking the fish very closely because there's no friction between them. Always talk to police like this they have a job to do.
That wasn't a "police officer".
+Creator278
I "technically" checked his oath and bond which don't exist.
i would assume they must have reasonable suspection or probable cause to search your boat.
I know in Florida you need a license for saltwater and freshwater, and purchasing the license gives consent for FWC officers to boat your vessel and open your coolers.
Nope; you're subject to inspection just by fishing.
The boat had an odour of .. fish coming from it..
@@johnkaba2593 so wouldn't everyone refuse to purchase if that did not allow consent?
@@stevewilliams4777 If you are fishing and FWC comes up to check if you have a license, if you do they have the right to search you because having that license gives them the right to search. If you do not have a license, you are breaking the law, and that gives them probable cause to search you. You get a fine and could lose your gear, and definitely lose your catch. If you don't pay the fine, you go to court. If you don't go to court, you get a bench warrant and could do jail time.
Freshwater and saltwater is $17 a piece, combo is $32.

Perfect compliance! Just doin his job then both on your way! Great video!
is it just me or does he sound like swaggersouls?
Love the video! Coutesy....the lost art. He has a job to do, both were respectfull, and a couple of minutes.....you are done! Fish are being protected and the fisherman got to brag a little! Well done!
That boat is all buisness not made for looks love it
Just subscribed and I think its good that there are people out there checking and enforcing the law. If you are doing what you should there is nothing to worry about. Thanks
What RAS of crime did the officer have. If none then that’s a 4th Amendment violation
Why don't fishermen dispatch of catch properly and humanely instead of just chucking them in the cooler to suffer? I am guessing I will get a lot of bad reaction to this but hoping that it might change some peoples actions.
Because of hygiene reasons.
I have tried to think how that could be and couldn't think how this is anything to do with hygiene. I am missing something then will gladly retract my criticism or suggest an alternative.
+calvin crane Okay so
Fish is slimy.
Now I'm going to make sure everything is up to date and working in my boat so If I get pulled over sooner or later I'm prepared! lol
Fat wad of cash..... If my wife knew I carried that kind of dough.....She'd probably let me go fishing a lot more.
Always nice when DNR comes alongside, hassles you, questions everything and scares the fish away. Yes, I know it’s their job to be nose and lie to you but it ruins a good day fishing. Same is said for traffic cops.
You don't need his permission to record
I mean he doesn't but it was nice of him to ask anyway, Some people are camera shy.
Devin Collins It’s called being polite. Not screaming RIGHTS every time you interact with enforcement.
Pandacat 666 so what if the cop says No ? You gonna say ohh well to bad I was asking to be nice ? Use your head

Very respectful engagement.
Your boat needs some cleaning. Looks awful!
I've never heard or seen a clean fishing boat in my life.
1) Hit the head, bleed it out
Or
2) Poke the brain, scrabble it
When a fish is put in an ice box to slowly run out of oxygen its body goes through changes releasing chemicals like you would if i covered your mouth for to long. These chemicals break down the meat and blood soaks internally with latic acid.
Conversely if you kill it after catching it the blood runs out leaving clean meat with no lactic acid, as well as other chemicals not being released into the muscles, plus not using the o2 reserves in the fish.
1) The fish will taste way better
2) Itll keep noticeable longer
All Real All Heart bleed the fish when alive then put on ice
not that I'll be in my own boat soon, this video still is good to see for me to know I've better be a good fishermen and have my credential ready, limits and catch lengths in check. thanks for sharing.
Thank god we live in a free country where permission is not needed to fish. Oh wait...never mind.
scott batchelor can you imagine if there were no rules.......oh wait, your kind wouldn't understand.
woohunter1 yea let's start doing random house searches to check for illegal things..
woohunter1 When you can’t naturally feed yourself on the planet you were born on without giving some people the “cut” they believe they’re entitled to, then you’re not free. Freedom is the absence of being ruled. It doesn’t matter how “scary” that might seem to someone like yourself. If you’re ruled, you’re not free. If you support being ruled, you’re no longer a man in my book. I guess it’s all subjective at the end of the day, but at least I’m gonna die knowing I wasn’t some little bitch who thinks freedom = respecting the decisions and self interests of lawmakers & those who make them a depressing & violent reality. If someone wants to get in my way of me feeding myself, they’ll be treated like any other thug who wants to steal my shit, my money, and/or throw me in a cage for doing so. You people are seriously fucked in the head if you think a man should be fined or caged for feeding himself without permission.
Bob Bibinskie if you think you are "free", spoiler alert, you aren't. Do you pay taxes? Of course. Do you obey traffic laws most of the time? Of course you do. If you or I lived life the way you think you do, we'd be in prison, as much as you hate it, it's true.
yep, not only getting harassed on land, now on the water too
❤❤❤i love people that are kind and respectful.
I was a professional skydiver. This actually looks like more fun, what a great way to spend a day.
As a fellow skydiver, I can say it is a bit more relaxing because you can close your eyes while drinking a beer and waiting for a tug on the line.
I love watching the game and fish work get your limit and go or don't keep past the limit
