Such a special car !!!!!!!!!! This car is partially what caused me to buy my mkiv supra. My first ever job at 14 years old was at a local shop owned by a man name Shin Yoshikawa. His shop specialized in this car and being in the states meant it was basically the rarest car in california aswell. Shin loved the car so much, he actually successfully hand built a 2000 GT out of aluminum. It was his main goal to make the car lighter but still maintain the stock look with out having to modify panels. 100% of the car from the unibody to the panels to the subframes and so on were all maid of aluminum. I must say that car in my opinion is by far the most iconic japanese car of all time. No car compares to that one of its time.
One of those Toyota 2000gt sold here in North America for a little over a million dollars. They've been going up in price ever since! Very had to find those here in the USA

Except for it being a left hand drive model there was an exact duplicate of that creamy yellow 2000GT in our local Toyota dealer showroom in Kailua, Hawai'i back in 1968. My older brother and I would ride our bikes to the Toyota dealer several times a month just to be able to sit in it and pretend we were Speed Racer. I had all the brochures too, wish I kept them. The thing sat at the dealer for quite a long time before it sold most Americans back then not appreciating Japanese cars in general but especially one with such a hefty price tag, damn the gorgeous body style, and amazing performance. I did not know these cars were ever made with a SOHC engine, all the ones imported to the US I believe were DOHC. Something HOT? My homemade chili sauce made from home grown Bhut Jolokia Ghost peppers, Habaneros, and our local tiny but deadly Hawaiian chili peppers. HOT but tasty!
My favorite Japanese car really want to see one of these gorgeous cars in real life even better would be to also see the one off open top one used in You Only Live Twice thanks for the video.
