Finance manager from suburb of Detroit here. Range Rovers are terrible in the used car market because of how frequent and expensive their repairs are. They’re beautiful cars but they have a terrible reputation. If you care about car that holds value, go GMC Yukon Denali / Denali Ultimate for the luxurious feel.
yes range rovers are for the aesthetic but the behind the scenes is not it. super unreliable
I used to work in the car industry for 8 years (Lexus, jaguar, Land Rover and Volvo) the safest cars to drive are Volvo and Lexus hands down! I drive a Lexus right now and it’s safe and not super expensive on repairs

Range Rover unfortunately has a lot of issues. Maybe it’s time to go outside the box and get a reliable vehicle. I have a Mercedes SUV. For you I would say a Volvo SUV and agree he’s correct
My Dad was a Volvo Mechanic, he really loved those cars. Volvo always had a certain feel to it, that bulkiness you mentioned. But, definitely, quality and Safety are top priorities for them. I would love to be in the position to finally buy a new SUV. My car is sooo tiny. I can’t wait to see what you pick!
My family has always had Volvos and LOVED them and drove them until they couldn’t anymore. They’re super safe and sturdy (at least the ones I grew up driving!) but go with what you feel!
I actually just purchased my first luxury suv which I think you’d love. It’s a BMW X5 45E (a mid-sized plug-in hybrid). You could also consider the BMW X5 50E. I got mine with the white leather interior. It’s so practical and also beautiful. My husband mainly chose this car-he’s a car guy. I was looking at range rovers but he guided me away since they’re unreliable. The drive train on this BMW is tried and true. Also, BMW has been rated as one of the safest brands to drive in recent years. Hope this helps!

Obsessed. It’s so safe and reliable and you can get up to 45 miles on the electric alone which is great for save gas money esp when you drive an SUV. BMWs are so well made and they don’t break down ever!!!
I come from North Dakota so our weather all year round is BRUTAL! And you need reliability to get anywhere here!! I would 1000% recommend a Toyota! Either a Highlander, Rav, or Camry!!

Jess I love you love the luxury cars but honestly being a mom I looooovvveeee the Ford expedition (that’s what I have) but you can get the all out luxury ones! Also look into the gmc suvs they’re honestly so lux and so much better than Range Rover, Mercedes, etc!

I recently switched up my cars and got a VW Atlas. Prob my fav car I have ever had! It has a nice luxury feel without the price tag of other luxury SUVs. Back seats are also very spacious and comfy!

My father was a used car dealer with 20 + years, do not let a dealer down play the value of your used car. Used cars are very sought after currently in the resale market; you will likely get double your money if you sell privately rather than trading in. It's obviously a bigger hassle but will pay off literally.
I have a Mercedes GLA 250 and it has been seriously amazing. So roomy, so comfortable, so safe and has given me ZERO issues. 100% recommend!
Also does really well in the winter! the only con is that it goes through tires more quickly but I think it’s because they are heavier

If your vehicle doesn’t start well in cold weather, it most likely needs a new battery. I’m a Jeep girl and absolutely love that it can get through pretty much anything.

i drive a volvo xc90 that we’ve had since i was like 8 years old and i LOVE it. i have to trade it in and get a new car too so i definitely feel you on loving my car haha. i would definitely recommend volvo if you ever are looking in the future!!! they’re SO safe if you look at crash test comparisons too
if you plan on having more kiddos I’d take Skye’s old infant car seat as well and see how it fits with two seats! So many SUV’s are so squishy with infant seats & your knees have to touch steering wheel just to fit🙃🙃

My boyfriend's mother has always driven a Lincoln- she loves them! Whenever I have ridden inside, it feels like a tank. Super sturdy, luxury interiors and features. My boyfriend has actually always driven Range Rovers and has run into the similar, reoccurring repair issues and is thinking a Lincoln will be his next car (also considering Toyota). Might be worth checking out!
My husband and I have had a variety of BMW's for the last 10 years, and they've all been great -- no problems! I'd recommend checking out the X5 and X7. Some of the X7's have the captain seats which I love! I've never had a Volvo, but they give such "old money" vibes which I love -- I just don't love the interior screen display of Volvos, they seem a bit dated. We also had the G550 a few years ago which was our favorite vehicle by far and would highly recommend to anyone, but gas mileage was horrible and not ideal for longer drives😅
I have an Audi and I love it but so many of my friends and family have Volvo and LOVE and swear by them for their safety features and feeling like they can get anywhere in the snow (we are in Buffalo) so you really have to trek!
We just got a 2021 Range Rover and have been loving it. But I feel you on waiting for parts. My other mommy friend has a jaguar and loves it!
Back story my first car I was too scared to sell, because I’m just a girl LOL got STOLEN from our apartment and then someone did a uturn into our Mercedes CLA. It’s was such a mess lol

A Volvo is the best ever! All my family has them!! We live in Canada and the snow gets pretty nasty up here and it’s super safe in cooler weather.

I am sure you have probably chosen a car by now, but if you haven’t, I would highly recommend looking into a Porsche Cayenne. Used or new, we have a 2009 which is a daily “beater” and it’s still imo one of the nicest cars you can buy. They’re very much the type of car that never goes out of style, a timeless classic. I drive a 2018 BMW X3 M40i daily which I LOVE and both of these cars definitely have the luxury feel with the horse power you said you want to feel safe. I feel ya there! Best of luck, new cars are always fun!

I’ve heard Volvo is the best of the best for mommy cars! They’re so safe and nice but I’ve also seen Lexus come out with a new bigger model car I can’t remember the name of it tho! I’d say those two brands are perfect!
My car was a Florida car and I bought it in Michigan and it has had so many problems!
Look into a Toyota sequoia!! They are incredibly safe, and hold their value!!! My family will only drive Toyotas, we’ve never had any issues!!!
I had a similar thought about my Florida car being okay in the midwest winters! My car is small so I'm not sure if it is because my car is small or a Florida car for how it is in the winter haha :)

or look at Genesis, amazing. you get SOOOOOOOOO much more for your money than other luxury brands... Mercedes and Land Rover have SO many issues and you'll always have trouble with them and parts are insanely expensive.
if you want something bigger... look at the Palisade calligraphy. i love that one. its more classic looking as the new santa fe is super modern and cool
this is highest trim and you get essentially S class features from a Mercedes. You should really just try these two cars before paying so much more just for a brand

You’re so right about cars manufactured in other states! I’m from michigan, and 6 months after moving to Arizona… my car (the plastic/parts of my engine) actually started to melt!!! SOPs in car making are different depending on the region! (Disclaimer: this is not true of all car makes/models)
Do you take the cats for a long trip like that. I’m petrified to leave mine with anyone I have 2 cats and 2 dogs, I also feel like who would want to take their time to do that for me and my zoo

girlllllllll stay away from mercedes & range rover!! i’ve had a BMW x5 (its 5 years old now & you would never ever know) and my mom has an x7 and we are obsessed!! we never want to switch out of the bmw lineup- highly recommend bmw or audi for a luxury car
Volvo is #1 or 2 w Subaru for safety. All cars lose value once u drive it off lot even luxury cars. If u can afford the upkeep great however the resale on Range Rovers is the worst out of luxury cars esp here in US. They are very nice though. Don’t get stuck on name brand things Jess. There are great safe vehicles out there.
