Mike Muir loved Rob's playing so much, they created a funk band, Infectious Grooves. Based off what Rob played on Suicidal and Infectious Grooves, I knew he'd be completely underutilised in the trebleworld of Metallica. I was just glad a good dude got a great paying gig.

I genuinely think Rob was the only person who could fill the very obvious void that still lingered with the original Metallica guys. Jason was too far removed from Cliff in every way but Rob brings back the feel and vibe of Cliff whilst putting his own spin and energy into the songs. Genuinely nice guy it seems as well who gets his place within Metallica and thoroughly deserved the million dollar handshake he got.

I got to see them live on this tour when they opened for Queensryche. We got to the venue before the doors opened and while we were waiting outside a white "free candy" type van pulls up to the curb and out pops the members of ST. They setup a table with a bunch of pizza and had ice chests full of Pepsi. They were so nice.. "Hey! Come get some pizza and a pepsi!" They also handed out promotional a cassette with a plain white cover that just said "Taste Test" on it and hung around and signed it. Very unexpected and cool experience.

He pulls off some pretty impressive playing on both albums... His tone on that album is far too underrated. I stood in awe when I saw Suicidal open for Megadeth in 92. NoMeansNo is a very interesting and unique band. They mashup punk with weird versions of jazz. The consistent members are the Wright brothers. Rob, who is the bass player has also played a lot of guitar in the band. What they always did was make the guitar and base play the same part. Like Rob almost played the base like guitar, even when they had Andy or Tom as a guitarist. For a while, the band was only duo of the brothers and IMO thats the most interesting period of the band where Rob wrote both bass and guitar parts.
Wrong is probably their best and most liked album, but Why Do They Call Me Mr. Happy? is the most artisticaly complex. The songs fully blend into each other. From this album is amazing the section before and after Happy Bridge. I would love to see rection to Madnees & Death, Happy Bridge and Kill Everyone Now listened in a single session.

If you want to see the actual music video (and Rob playing’ for this song it is listed under ‘I saw your mommy’, a completely different song, but no one ever corrected it.
Also I think you should do a video on Mastodon. Troy Sanders has a tone a lot of bass players beg to achieve and some of his riffs are just beautiful. Like Teardrinker, Ghost of Karelia, Where strides the Behemoth, Naked Burn etc.

@@TruckJohnson that's a actually a fair point about Violent & Funky. I tend to slip into suggesting tracks that I like as a song, and while the bass track is absolutely funky, it is very repetitive for the types of videos he does.
I still think he'll enjoy it, though.
I saw ST & IG at the old State Theater in Detroit right after Rob left (around 94-95) with an 18 year old Josh Paul on bass. I had seen ST several times (and a few other bassists) before, but the first time with IG. Josh is a badass, as well.

Funk metal was a thing in the late 80s/early 90s (Primus was often lumped in with the scene) and Robert in ST & IG was a BIG part of it. This album & The Art of Rebellion are his best with ST (IMO, of course) & the 1st IG album, The Plague That Makes Your Booty Move, is a Robert Trujillo showcase. The dude goes off on every song.
