Very interesting video. Good to see the track layout as it was at Glendon, the old semaphore signals and the bay platform at Kettering. The scenes at Corby and Glendon are rather different today. Enjoyed watching this.
Did the train start from Kettering, or from Bedford? I remember seeing old NSE maps from the late 80s and the line from Bedford to Kettering was broken (to mean it wasn't part of NSE but served by NSE trains, like Ipswich and Peterborough) while the Kettering-Corby stretch was a solid blue line, meaning it was part of Thameslink. As the main line was served by IC125s north of Bedford, I'd have thought having these old bubble cars run along that line would have caused delays to the mainline trains as they wouldn't have done 100mph let alone 125.
remember having to pay for this even though I had a rail rover: the guard said it was paid for by the council so BR tickets weren't valid. By this time - Aug 88 - it was a 4 car train as it was well used but I recall the service being abruptly axed not long after.
You get vandals everywhere; presumably they were able to damage the station at Corby because it wasn't staffed and hardly anyone was ever there, because BR didn't invest enough in the line post-Beeching. Even now it's only a branch line of the MML when it could easily run through to Oakham and then Nottingham or Leicester.
I remember when the powers that be back in 1988 axed this service because of retarded vandals destroying everything. In this case they won and the majority suffered for many years because of it. Pleased to see Corby is back on the rail map and in a way that could only be imagined all those years ago.
@@jontownsend6451 Unfortunately, it has been used by a lot of Londoners. They sold their house in London and moved to Corby. Add those Londoners to the huge amount of immigrants that have moved here over the last 20 years and Corby is in a right mess. Even before COVID, it was difficult to get doctors or dentist appointments. You can’t guarantee your child a place in the school of your choice. Social housing has been changed to favour the new arrivals vs the people who have always been here. The roads are always congested. Parking is a nightmare. The sense of community that Corby had in the 80’s and 90’s is gone. It really is a shame. If I could revert Corby back to how it was when this video was shot, I would.

I remember going on these as a young boy. The cab view today has changed massively. Great video.
I used to ride this as an "adventure" as a kid.
Reminds me of my cab rides Darren. cheers Mike.
